Could've walked away, but you're still here  The last thing that Becca had wanted to do was spend her Saturday in some strange city on the other side of Wyoming doing paperwork to finish up the process of claiming her biological father's estate, but that was exactly what had happened. How Rae had gotten all of this done from California was beyond her, but hey, she'd take it if it meant getting things over with.
Then again, she'd take sitting in that stuffy room full of lawyers and accountants over sitting on the side of the road by herself any day. After everything had been signed and sealed, she had left the office and headed straight back to Calloway in hopes of catching dinner with Liam or Rae, but fate had other plans. Her old, faithful car stalled out and then died completely about five hours away from Calloway and it was already 9 p.m.. Help couldn't be there until at least two in the morning if she was lucky, other than the creepy driver who had stopped long enough to tell her that there was no way her car was moving.
A quick call to Liam had turned up a dead end. He was working and either didn't have his phone on him or wasn't answering, so she shot him a text anyways with the hopes that he would answer soon from whatever odd job he was doing this week. She loved her boyfriend, she really did, but she really wished he would get a regular job at times like this.
At 11, she gave up and called Gem. She was cold and tired, the fall air seeping in through the closed windows and chilling her despite the heavy sweater she was wearing. He had answered almost right away and was heading in her direction, so she decided to curl up in the front seat with the doors locked to wait. Gemini had been comfy in his bed when his phone had gone off at 11pm. It surprised him, not so much that it had gone off but that it had been Becca's special ringtone. She had informed him that her car had broken down and she was pretty far away from town. He had lazily pulled himself out of the comfort of his warm bed and pulled on his jeans and black long sleeved shirt, as well a leather jacket. He was exhausted but he couldn't bare the thought of Becca alone on the side of the road with the way the temperature's had been dropping at night. He wasted no time and grabbed his keys, wallet, and an extra black hoodie in case she hadn't come prepared.
Gem had jumped in his black rx-8. He had been wanting to get it out on the road, right? Taking off down the road he was already speeding as the car easily hit 60 in a matter of seconds, it wasn't much longer until he was doing 75 down the highway. He rolled down his window so that the cool air could hit his face and turned up the radio, of course the only thing he could get out there was country, which wasn't so terrible so he left it.
It was four in the morning when he spotted Becca's car on the side of the road and pulled up behind her. Getting out of the car he smiled at her You called for a hero?

Could've walked away, but you're still here Tires and a radio had alerted Becca to Gem's presence before he even got out of the car, prompting her to roll the window down just a hair. It was already cold in the car, the only thing the window was keeping out was the cool breeze. Her teeth were chattering quietly when Gemini made it to the door, the shaking in her hands making it hard to grab the purse beside her. "Gem, you have no idea. Thank you so much for coming out here, I don't know what I would've done without you."
Finally getting her hands on the pesky purse, she climbed out of the car and hugged Gem tightly. If anything, he was almost uncomfortably warm against her cool skin. Maybe she should have tried turning the car on again once or twice before he got there for the heater at least. "I'm sorry that it's so late, I just didn't know who else to call." Becca's voice was muffled slightly from where her face was pressed against his jacket, but between the warmth and the smell of his cologne she really didn't care. And I'm still here, come on let's see where it goes

Gem wrapped his arms around her tightly, returning her hug. Hadn't he just gone through this?Becca It's okay really. I'm usually sneaking out of some girl's house right nowHe was lying not wanting to tell her that he had been in bed ready to fall asleep knowing it would make her feel worse. He held her against him for a minute, he could tell she was freezing in the cold fall air.and he rubbed his hands up and down her arms. He cupped her hands in his bringing them to his mouth and blowing into them before rubbing them them together C'mon lets get you in the car ice princess." He said with a smile putting an arm around her shoulder pulling her against his side. He walked her toward the passenger side of the car and opened the door for her before going around to get in.
Once inside the car he turned up the heater. He reached in the back seat pulling out the extra black hoodie he had grabbed on the way out the door, he plopped it in her lap I figured you'd be cold..Sorry if it smells like me. He hadn't had time to check to make sure it was clean in his haste out the door. He turned the radio down enough where it could still be heard but not where it was blasting.Don't forget to put your seat belt on. He said though he personally rarely wore one, though it wasn't unlike Gem to overly confident in his abilities.
He checked over his shoulder to check for on coming headlights, when he didn't see any he used the palm of his hand to spin the steering wheel. The tires squealed and the headed back in the direction he had come.Kenny Chesney's You and Tequila started playing. Gem mentally face palmed Why? He thought but there was no other radio stations and he didn't want to turn down the radio in fear he'd fall asleep. Next truck stop we pass I'm getting coffee He thought to himself they still had a really long drive back and he couldn't hold back the yawns. He tapped his fingers on the steering wheel singing the song quietly under his breath. He wasn't really sure what to say to Becca.

Becca was almost sweating before they made it a mile down the road, especially with Gems hoody wrapped securely around her. It briefly struck her as odd that Gem had reminded her about the seatbelt. Normally she wore one anyways so it didn't really matter, but it was super early in the morning and who knew what crazy people were out on the road besides them. "You too hot shot. Wouldn't want anything messing up that pretty face of yours." She teased quietly before singing along with the song. How ironic.
It didn't take her very long to start drifting off, the heat and motion from the driving making her drowsy. It was a good thing that Gem was used to late late nights. A large yawn escaped right before her eyes fluttered closed, memories about gem and tequila lulling her to sleep. And I'm still here, come on let's see where it goes

Gems scoffed at her when she had told him he needed to put his seat belt on. Oh please but for some reason he obeyed this time. He glanced over at her while she slept and smiled. He reached over and brushed his thumb against her cheek before turning his eyes back to the road.
The heat in the car was making hims sleepy but there was no way he could open the window far enough to help without make Becca cold. He rubbed his eyes with his free hand and checked the GPS. They were only a few miles from a small town, hopefully there would be some place there with coffee, lots and lots of coffee.
It didn't really matter though because seconds after he had checked how far away they were his eyelids dropped. It wasn't for very long before that mental alarm went off in his head that was likeWait whose driving? Aren't YOU driving?!. His eyes snapped open just in time to see the car had drifted off the road Gem cursed loudly.Maybe it was the fact that his body was under stress from exhaustion or the fact that he still had to wait for the car to respond to him but even with his super fast reflexes there was no real way around what was about to happen. In the same moment he tried to put his arm out to pin Becca back against the seat the car hit the tree, his head went forward and smacked the steering wheel knocking him unconscious.

Could've walked away, but you're still here There was no time to register what was going on between the time Becca woke up and when the car hit the tree in front of them. The last thing she consciously felt was Gemini pushing her backwards, then being thrown forward in to the dashboard despite his efforts. Her head collided with the hard material and a sickening thud resonated in the roar of twisting metal and grinding gears around her before everything went black.
Hours, minutes, or even days could have passed before Becca regained consciousness. Her head hurt in ways that she couldn't describe, but other than that she seemed to be just fine thanks to the seat belt still secured around her small frame. For some reason though, she couldn't remember why she was in the car or who she was with. That was, until she looked over and saw Gem slumped over in the driver's seat.
"Gem, Gemini! Babe, wake up." She called desperately, shaking him as well as she could from her seat. The metal was still crumpled around her, so she hadn't found a way out yet. Right now what mattered was her unconscious boyfriend. As an after thought, she grabbed her cell phone out of her pocket in case they needed to call an ambulance and happened to catch the date. For some reason, she had thought for a moment they were still sixteen. She must have been suffering from some sort of short term memory loss or something. It didn't matter. Gem needed to wake up before she could even think about that. And I'm still here, come on let's see where it goes

In a dream like state Gem thought he heard Becca calling out to him. He tried to open his eyes but his head was pounding,his lip stung, and his jaw ached.Was that blood he tasted?He raised his head off the steering wheel. He rubbed his achy jaw and felt the stubble.When had he gotten facial hair? When he saw the crumpled front end of the car and the tree it sunk in that he had obviously been in a car accident. Who..He remembered Becca's voice and whipped around in his seat. When he saw her he was caught off guard, She didn't look different per say but she didn't look the way he remembered. Becca! Are you okay? he said visually checking her over.
He wasn't sure what had happened but he felt guilty regardless, he had obviously been the one driving so it was obviously his fault. Had he been drinking? No, Gem couldn't imagine putting Becca in jeopardy over something like that.

Could've walked away, but you're still here Letting out a shaky sigh of relief, Becca let go of Gem's shoulder to try the door for the first time. Her's was completely stuck, but the windshield was busted out. If she could move her legs then maybe she could get out that way. "I think I'm okay other than my head, but I haven't moved around much. What about you?" His face looked like he had taken a pretty bad beating but she couldn't be completely sure. It was still dark outside.
Tentatively, she moved her legs around and found that while one of her legs seemed to be badly bruised, everything was still functioning at least. Pulling her knees up to her chest, she laid Gem's hoodie over the glass shards and then slowly started to pull herself out. "I don't suppose you know what we're doing in the middle of nowhere at five in the morning, do you? Because I have literally no idea." Her speech was a little rough, mostly because she was trying to talk and maneuver around the tree at the same time, but waiting until she was out wasn't on her current agenda. That would take forethought and planning, but her head hurt way too much for that. And I'm still here, come on let's see where it goes

Gem huffed a sigh of relief when it seemed that all Becca's body parts were accounted for and in working conditioned. He twisted in his seat everything hurt but it all seemed to work. I think my lip is bleeding. but everything works.. When he saw her start to try and maneuver out the front window he sighed Becca be careful he pleaded with her.
He tried his door handle the door was stuck Of course He slammed his shoulder against it couple times before it finally popped open. He slid out of the car and his legs felt wobbly and he braced himself with his hand on the side of the car.
He looked around down the dark road and he pulled out his cellphone, the screen had shattered in his pocket but he could still make out the directions on the map quest. I don't know why we're out here but there's a town a little ways up the road. I'd prefer if you wouldn't climb over that broken glass Becca. He said with an unnatural Gem seriousness.
He leaned into the open door holding out his hand in an effort to help her out of the in a way that wouldn't potentially cut up her legs and arms.

Could've walked away, but you're still here Becca couldn't help but be a little relieved whenever Gemini stopped her from climbing out the window. That tree was just way too close and she was going to hurt herself more getting out than she had in the accident. "Thanks." She replied sheepishly, crawling out with the hoodie and her purse in hand. "Another town doesn't sound that bad. Do you think they'll have a place we can stay for the night?" This close to Yellowstone, everywhere had a bed and breakfast of some sort for travelers to stay at. it was a perk of living near a national park.
Looking up at Gem, she shuddered slightly at the implications of what they had just gone through. They could've died or been stuck here all night hurt in that car. She was shaken up to say the least. "How are we going to get there though. I don't know if we can walk that far." As she asked, Becca took the hoodie and carefully pulled it over her head. It was still freezing outside and extremely uncomfortable without the sunlight to offset the chill.

Once she was out of the car he wrapped his arms around her pulling her tightly against his chest resting his chin on top of her head in an attempt to keep her warm, but out of pure relief that his girlfriend was okay. He assessed the damage to the car, it was possible that if they could get a tow truck out there they might be able to fix the car enough for it to get back to town but that was it.
He reluctantly released her pulling out his wallet checking how much money he had, luckily he had remembered to grab his credit card. A quick glance over the ID in his wallet stated that he was eighteen. Where had the last two years gone? He felt dizzy for a second. He shook it off, he'd figure that out later they couldn't stand on the side of the road in the dark. I'm sure the next town up will have what we need, or at least someplace warm... He glanced at the map quest again. It wasn't that far.
Gem dropped down to his knees in front of her, knowing that there was no way after what they had just gone through that Becca could jump up on his 6 foot two frame. You shouldn't have to walk that far but I can. So it looks like you're getting a piggy back ride.. He said with a smile and then flinched when he felt the inevitable sting of his busted lip

Becca smiled softly at Gem when he suggested the piggy back ride. He could be so sweet whenever he wanted to be. Wrapping her arms around his neck tightly, she laid her head down against his and tried to hold on as he headed towards the town. It was a good thing that she had put that hoodie on earlier or they would have too many things to carry. The purse she had pulled from the car swung lightly at her side, reminding her of its presence.
It didn't take long for her arms to start hurting, probably from where the seatbelt held her in place. This just wasn't going to work anymore. "Hey, I'm going to walk for a while, okay? Sorry, my arms just can't take it." sliding off of Gem's back, she reached for his hand to walk beside him instead. Her purse hit her back again, reminding her that she wanted to check it for any indication of what they had been doing.
A few sheets of paper revealed they had been at a bank doing something involving a settlement with some guy named davenport. A large one at that, which had just been dispersed in to her accounts. "Well, here's why we were gone, but why were we driving this late? We're we doing something?" this got weirder and weirder by the moment.

Despite his sore muscles Becca had been easy to carry. When said her arms hurt and slid off of him he looked at her concerned Are you okay? He asked and smiled when she reached for his hand. He slid his fingers in between hers.
Gem glanced over the paperwork but really couldn't make any sense of it. He didn't recognize the name davenport at all. I wish I had answers for you Becca.. The disorientation was driving him nuts and he wracked his brain trying to piece together what happened. He reached in his pocket pulling out his phone again, he flipped through the pictures. He looked a little confused as he found a picture what looked like Becca and Him in front of the fountains in Vegas. Well apparently we went to Vegas.. Even though some of it was hard to see due to busted screen. Why am I... is the glitter?! He was obviously covered in something that was reflecting light in the picture.
He was relieved when he saw the town was just a little farther up the road. When the finally reached the outskirts of town you could tell it's one of those country towns that if you blinked you'd miss it, over all it was pretty cute and rustic though. He spotted an open diner and it looked like a hotel. Are you hungry or do you want me to just get a room?

Could've walked away, but you're still here Becca couldn't help but giggle a little bit at the picture of Gemini covered completely in glitter. Whatever they had done in vegas looked interesting. Too bad she couldn't remember any of it to save her life. A few minutes later they stumbled upon a little hotel in a town that looked like a tourist trap. Why else would a place like that have a diner open this early? Especially one attached to a hotel. "Why don't you grab us something and I'll see about getting a room while you order, okay?" She suggested, leaning up to kiss Gem on the cheek before walking over towards the front desk. The clerk was obviously tired, but she was nice enough to get them a room reserved and point her in the direction of a tiny gift shop off to the side. At least they would have clothes, right?
Luckily for them, the paper work she had found in her purse appeared to be right enough that her card went through without an issue for both the room and the essentials she picked up downstairs. It was hard to pick out anything for Gem because she didn't know his size anymore, but she managed some how. Bags in hand and a room key in her pocket, Becca went to rejoin Gem in the diner to see what would happen next. "Alright, the room is ready when we are, I have clothes, soap, and a first aide kit. Oh, and the lady at the front desk gave me the number for a tow truck. How are you feeling?" Becca was talking fast, mostly because the adrenaline that had kept her moving on the walk from the car in to town seemed to be fading by the minute. Sleeping was probably a bad idea, but it was definitely high on the to-do list. And I'm still here, come on let's see where it goes
