"I-it was from Dani I don't." Becca's words jumbled together in a nervous slur. Time seemed to slow down as she started to think about all the implications of one little box. The note had seemed cheery, so we're they trying to have a kid? That didn't sound like Gem though, so maybe not. He was enough of a gentleman that if he had crossed that line he would marry her first. Then she remembered the accident and felt physically ill. What if she was? Did they need to go to the doctor?

Her mute shock only ceased long enough for her to turn around and curl back up against Gem's side, hiding her face in the crook of his neck. This was not cool at all. "I don't think I want to know. It's too much. Way too much " Gem might not have even been able to hear the muttered words, but Becca refused to take any louder. Maybe she never should've opened her bag. Gem was bound to be furious if the implications were true.

Gem scooted away from Becca, swinging his legs over the side of the bed leaning over with his head in his hands. A million thoughts flashed through his head from little tiny baby socks to the suffocating responsibility that having a baby would mean. He stood up and walked over to the only window in the room staring out it, his arms crossed over his chest. The sky was overcast and it looked like a cold fall rain was starting to fall.

He knew he was being selfish, he couldn't imagine what Becca was thinking about right now. She wasn't done with college and would she really want to have a kid with a guy like him? He wasn't the most responsible person on the planet. Exhibit A the wrecked car. If he had anywhere to go he might have ran from the hotel room.

Becca's heart sank even further whenever Gem stood up and walked away. It wasn't like she hadn't expected something like that from him, but maybe he could've at least acknowledged that maybe things had changed enough for this to be okay. They weren't sixteen anymore, maybe they wanted this.

The only thing holding her together and holding back the tears was the sound of rain tapping on the windows. Becca had loved rain ever since she was a little girl. It was calming, probably the most relaxing thing she had ever experienced. That was probably why she found herself rolling off the side off the bed to grab Gem's hoodie and her wallet quickly before going downstairs.

Once she was outside in the damp air, Becca felt a million times better. It was already late enough in the morning that most of the other shops in town had opened up, giving her a few places to go spend some time. Maybe if Gem had some privacy while he dealt with whatever was going on in his head they could go forward with this together. As far as they knew, there wasn't even a reason to worry. A test implied that they didn't know, so she'd have to take it to be sure, right?

Right beside the hotel was a small shop selling souvenir's and homemade candy. It was close enough that she would barely even get wet from leaving the covered porch, so that's where Becca headed, in search of comfort food and maybe hot chocolate if she was lucky.

He went to open his mouth to tell her wait but before he could the hotel door clicked behind her. Gem sighed out loud.He felt horrible but the whole idea was overwhelming. Obviously if it ended up being the case then he would do what he needed to to take care of Becca and their baby. He changed back into his jeans, there was no way he was going outside in sweats. He grabbed his shirt off the floor pulling it back over his head and his leather jacket off the bed, zipping it up. He hoped she had taken the hotel key with her because he realized he didn't have it on him as he headed out the door and down the stairs.

Once out of the hotel he looked around for Becca. The sweet smell of homemade candy was in the air and he followed it toward a small shop near the hotel that looked like it was selling usual Yellowstone souvenirs. More like Giant Volcano that's going to kill us.. Gem grumbled under his breath, he wasn't a big fan of Wyoming and often missed his Seattle home. When spotted Becca he snuck up behind her wrapping his arms around her waist from behind and gave her a small kiss on the neck under her jaw line. I'm sorry. The thought is just super overwhelming.

From the look on the cashier's face, the woman couldn't decide whether to be irritated or amused by the young couple in her shop. Of course Becca had made a bee-line straight to the counter to order what was supposed to be the best hot chocolate in the state, making it two because part of her knew Gem would probably show up. If not she would've just drank it herself or taken it to him. Everything else she had picked up on her mission to obtain a chocolate coma was already in her bag. This place was awesome and she needed to remember where it was, because she just might move in.

"I know, I know. That's why I left to give you some space. Besides, this may just be some prank from Dani. She doesn't always like me, Gem." It was a complicated relationship for sure. Dani didn't necessarily hate her or vice versa, but there was always a period of time right after she entered a new relationship where Dani somehow ended up being more protective of Gem than usual. It would last a few hours and then things would go back to normal right up until she broke up with the next guy and started hooking up with Gem again. It was part of their on and off thing they had when they were younger and Dani apparently hated it more than they did. "Why don't we just go back and find out? It's better to be safe than sorry, right? Because if I am we should probably head to a hospital." That was her biggest fear at the moment. Not that she would ruin their futures or anything like that, but that they didn't know and something could be wrong. Her heart was set on the idea that nothing was going to happen though, so hopefully some positive thinking would will things to go their way.

As if that ever worked out for them.

Of course Dani likes you! He said but he knew that depending on the time Dani's fondness for Becca was debatable. He took one of the hot chocolates from so that he could hold her other hand. Yeah Yeah. Maybe we can get at least get one answer today. He raised her hand to his lips and kissed the back of it while the exited the building. Maybe it was the weather but he was feeling particularly cuddley. Also I hope you grabbed the hotel key because I forgot.. He said making a pouty face.

Despite everything he hoped if Becca was pregnant that it stayed there, he'd feel horrible if anything happened, regardless of how he felt about being a father. He might even be happy when he got his memory back, or maybe it was a prank. Maybe Dani had known that they were taking a road trip and had put it in Becca's purse to be funny. I guess they were going to find out soon enough though.

Becca was relatively silent all the way back to the room, not because she didn't want to talk but because she wasn't sure what to say until everything was done. Luckily she had grabbed the key whenever she had picked up her wallet, otherwise they might have been stuck. Sitting down her drink and the bag in her hand, she turned to kiss Gem on the cheek. Whatever was going to happen needed to get over with now so that they could either freak out or laugh and move on.

It was the longest three minutes of her life.

For some reason she never opened the door, maybe because she couldn't stand to see the look on Gem's face right off regardless of the answer, but in the end it was probably what he wanted. The test came back negative when the timer was up. She couldn't decide whether or not she should be happy, irritates, or maybe even a little sad. Tiny Gem's would be adorable some day, but he wasn't ready for that yet and she knew it. Dani was going to get an earful whenever they got back.

Five more minutes passed before she finally opened the door and set the test on the counter for Gem to see. Becca's undecided emotions kept her from speaking even then, so she simply walked over to the bed and sat down to wait for his reaction.

Gem watched Becca disappear into the bathroom. He sat down on the edge of the bed and tapped his fingers against his knee. He stood up and walked aimlessly around the small room, He paced back and forth. Gem was always a restless person but right now it was the worst. His mind was reeling with to many different scenarios and questions, how would he react. It's one thing to think the way you'd react it's another to be in the situation completely. He sat down in one of the chairs and tapped his fingers on the table. His parents would be happy. Maybe a little upset because he was so young, maybe worried because he was so irresponsible. His dad would be upset initially, probably rambling on about how many times he had had the talkwith him, and that it's was time to be a man and take responsibility. His mother would be thrilled She loved children and she was especially worried She'd never have grandchild, that's the problem with only children. You have to put all your hopeful eggs in one basket.

He stood up and stared out the window watching the rain run down the glass. He thought back to when he was a kid and somehow he'd pick his favorite rain drop and silently cheer it on as it ran down the the glass with the other ones in an unofficial but very serious raindrop race. He smiled to himself, kids weren't so bad right? Becca would definitely have the pregnancy glow everyone talks about. One of those future visions of Becca super preggo and he'd give her a kiss on the belly like in all those maternity pictures everyone took these days. Boy or Girl? Would it have blue or green eyes? Blonde or Brown hair? Would it have agility or be hydro kinetic, or develop some other random power, would it have a power at all? Becca was a twin... He felt sick would they twins? the crying, and the screaming, and He hadn't even graduated from high school, Though it had seemed like they had managed to stay together who knew how many break ups and make ups they had. They'd probably end up divorcing, then came the partial custody, the weekend visits, and most of all the forever of it all. He wouldn't be able to run away if he wanted. His head started to ache Wait- weren't these things only suppose to take three minutes. He checked his watch it had at least been five if not more. uh-oh that was probably a bad sign.

The click of the bathroom door opening was both a relief and sickening at the same time. He saw Becca set that stupid stick down on the counter and sit on the bed without saying a word. He felt a tightening in his chest and seemed to become a little harder to breath. It was amazing how much of their future was dependent on a couple of blue lines, though he assumed with the way Becca was reacting or really lack there of that He should go check the gift shop for a Yellowstone onsie and call his mom and dad.

Gem took a deep breath before taking the few steps to the counter to look at that stupid stupid stick. He wasn't an expert on the subject but he was pretty sure that was negative. He took a big sigh and all of a sudden it felt like he could breath again. Though He looked at Becca trying to read her at all. A mind reading power would be real nice right now. Way to go genetics. He walked over to bed and scooted up next to her Becca, What's wrong? He asked genuinely concerned.

Well, from the looks of it Gem was fairly happy. At least that was a good sign. Still, she was conflicted about the whole situation. Maybe that's all she needed to say. "I don't know if I'm happy, or sad, or even mad. Like, I don't want a kid right now, but what if we did? Or it could just be some insane joke and either we knew about it or Dani is a bigger jerk than I thought." Gem's best friend or not, Becca would drown her if she found out this was a prank. Nothing could be official until they go their memories back though.

"Logically I know this is great, I really do. It's just the not knowing part. It's bothering me more and more." Realizing that the room was a little hot and so was she, Becca took off Gem's hoodie and tossed it on to the chair before leaning back against the pillows on the unmade bed. This whole situation got crazier and crazier by the minute, but all she wanted to do was curl up in bed with her boyfriend and forget that anything was happening at all for an hour or two.

Gem sighed Becca... He didn't feel like fighting with his girlfriend but he hated getting caught up between the weird Dani/Becca...thing. He was protective of Dani and so it was hard for him to walk the line between protective best friend and protective boyfriend, luckily most of the time they were civil.

He stood up unzipping his jacket when she scooted back against the pillows and dropped it on the chair. He dropped down on the bed next to her, moving so he was laying on his side with one arm shoved under one of the way too flat hotel pillows. You mean like you know it's a good thing but you're worried that maybe we wanted a kid and you can't remember?He couldn't imagine them wanting a kid at eighteen but Hey maybe things had changed, maybe he had changed.

Becca nodded, pulling her legs up to her chest as she tried to articulate what she was thinking. Something about the words didn't seem right though, but she couldn't figure out why. "I think so. I mean, why else would something like that be in my purse? I don't know. Maybe we should just forget about it and move on for now." about that time, the smell of hot chocolate wafted over from the table where they had left the cups.

Something hot and sweet was definitely on the menu, mostly because she was too lazy or emotionally drained to  walk downstairs for real food. Grabbing hers and the bag of candy, Becca curled up under the covers and scooted closer to Gem. "It's cold and raining outside, plus we're stranded. Why don't we find a movie or something and just stay here for a little while." She asked softly, hoping the change of pace would help sooth the lingering wrongness in her heart.

Becca, Even If we are somehow trying to have a kid. We can try again once we remember okay? If we're not then maybe it's a good thing. He said out loud not sure if he was trying to comfort himself that if they were trying to have a baby that he was somehow game.

He wrapped his arms around her pulling her against him the best he could, since she had the hot chocolate in her hand. Just me, if that's our goal we can try as much as you want or hey practice is okay too.. He said mischievously giving her a kiss on the shoulder. I'd love to snuggle with you and watch a movie.. Maybe it was the warmth of the blankets, the softness of the bed or Becca being in his arms but he suddenly realized how exhausted he was.

Even with the hot chocolate on the night stand and the remote in her hand, Becca didn't turn on the TV. She was too comfortable and they had been through so much in the past two or three hours that her eyes refused to stay open for more than a few seconds. If the TV would just turn itself on, that would be spectacular. Unfortunately she wasn't a technopath, so instead she dropped the remote on top of the blankets and cuddled up against Gem's chest. A few seconds later she was out like a light, muttering something about lower falls and purple flowers.

When Becca had snuggled up against his chest it had been like the magic trick that put him right to sleep.

He awoke feeling suffocated and hot, squinting he looked around the room. He was confused at first but then realization sunk in, the accident, the hotel the small tourist trap town. He looked down at the mess of curly blonde hair and the girl it belonged to. He smiled a little bit, Becca had always looked adorable when she slept.

He had fallen asleep in his long sleeved shirt and jeans and between that, the heater, the blankets and, Becca he was burning up. He slowly slipped out of bed away from her. How long had they slept. The sun was up he could see he shining brightly through the window. He stomach growled. He really should have gotten something to eat yesterday.

He grabbed his cell phone and wallet off the table along with the hotel key. He checked the date on his phone squinting between the shattered glass, it looked like they had slept from the late morning/afternoon until the next day. Once he made it out the hotel door he welcomed the cool fall air and shoved his sleeves up past his elbows.

The smell of coffee and pancakes was in the air reminding Gem how hungry he was. Hungry enough he actually might eat crappy diner food. Before he headed to the diner a little store caught his eye. It was one of those little shops that sold odd things like healing stones, tarot cards, and offered things like chakra alignments and palm readings. One of those shops you’re always surprised to see in a small town but is obviously there as a tourist trap. His mom would love it, It reeked of incense when he entered which made him a little home sick. He missed his mom, so sue him. He browsed around boredly. He saw a book on zodiac signs that he couldn’t recall that his mom had. He tucked the book under his arm and headed to the counter. On his way a blue heart shaped necklace caught his eye, the swirls in it reminded him of ocean waves. His mind immediately went to Becca. He picked it up turning it around in his hand reading the tag. It said that it was made from agate and he smiled. If he remembered correctly agate was one of the main stones of the Gemini zodiac. It was pretty perfect. He paid for the items and headed out the door to the diner.

Stopping in the diner he browsed the menu deciding on waffles and French toast with a sides of bacon, a hot chocolate and a cup of coffee. The waitress from the day before and with Becca gone her flirting was a lot less subtle. He couldn’t help but flirt back just a little bit with smiles. It was what he did it was just flirting after all. After he got their food he headed back upstairs, but stopped in the hotel office to make a phone call to the tow truck to find out what was going on with his car.

After the phone call he headed back upstairs balancing the food and tucking the drinks under his chin to keep them in place while he fished the hotel key out of his pocket and opened the door as quietly as possible

Sleep was apparently just what the doctor ordered apparently. Becca had woken up alone in the bed about ten minutes after Gem left, but instead of freaking out she simply took the opportunity to shower and change in to some normal clothes. The yellowstone theme was getting old by now and Becca hoped they would be able to leave decently soon. Her own clothes would be a nice change of pace, plus home had family and friends who could answer some of their questions. It was definitely better than here.

Gem Still wasn't back by the time she had changed and dealt with her hair. Maybe she should have went looking for a phone or something so that they wouldn't get lost in this strange town. The door opening pulled her out of her internal musings, especially when she saw who was on the other side. "Morning!" She greeted, walking over to take the drinks from him before he could spill something. Burns were literally the last thing they needed, right?
