Ohhh. I love it when you get bossy with me. He wiggled his eyebrows at her teasingly. Yeah we will see, and no. No I am not deep. I'm shallow. He listened quietly to her stories, he couldn't imagine how hard it must have been to be passed around from family to family it wasn't at all surprising to him that Dani had insecurity issues and then to be on the brink of having a family only to have something crazy happen like a power manifestation. He bit his lip not sure what to say, it was like Rae in the elevator all over again, people always wanted to get on this level with him and he really never knew how to react or how to comfort them. The thing about her father caught him off guard Wait, what? There's some guy who can't have you and your siblings back for some unknown reason possibly in Wyoming? He wasn't sure if he was worried or annoyed that she had never told him.

Dani nodded and fidgeted with the bear for a minute. This was probably not the time for this conversation, but at least if he wanted to turn back he still could. I don't like telling people because they ask me stupid questions like why I haven't tried to find him. I mean, I've seen the papers but I don't know his name. I know he was born near Calloway though so that means he might be an SPB. He's never come looking for us though and can't until at least Aria turns eighteen. in the versions she had seen, her father's name had been blacked out. She had a birthday for him though and a hospital. Basic records from his birth certificate. Other than that he was a mystery, a scary one at that. My mom never said why in the documents, but he lost us for abandonment. That's the official cause. I know his mother filed a petition for visitation about a year ago but it failed because I was here and Fin was MIA. I try not to think about it. maybe he would move on in the conversation, maybe not. If he was curious she'd just have to ensure the questions and hope that it made up for everything.

Gem stared out the window not really focusing on much but keeping the car straight, there wasn't anyone on the road and he didn't bother looking at the speedometer, He knew he was doing at least 20 over. I assume you didn't go looking for him, because well you're not ready or maybe it's not a good idea. I don't know. He tapped his fingers against the steering wheel to the beat of the faint background hip hop song. He wasn't really sure what to tell Dani, it'll be okay wouldn't work, he didn't know that and it hadn't been okay obviously. He could tell her to try and find her dad for closure, then maybe she'd have someone but he could really just be an asshole who abandon his kids and that would only leave his best friend more torn apart and damaged. He eyed the bottle of vodka, even that was starting to sound good. Part of Gem was relieved that he hadn't come looking for them, what if he was dangerous and wanted to hurt Dani. It's probably best you don't try and find him. Gem finally said after he had come to his own conclusion, he was either dangerous or a loser and it was better he wasn't involved in Dani's life.

Im not going to. Who knows what I would be walking in to. Dani agreed, looking at Gem for the first time. This should not be the way they started out their trip. Hey, babe. Don't worry about it. I'm well adjusted and if he does ever come around...well, I'm a big girl. And if I can't handle it, I've got you right? she grinned, reaching over to rest a hand on his arm. Now she had to come up with something fun to talk about or they were going to go crazy cooped up like this. The last thing she wanted to do was make Gem regret putting this thing together. As she thought, her jacket slipped down over her shoulders to land in her lap without her noticing. She was too deep in thought to mess with it anyways.

He gave her a small smile Yeah, I'll take care of you. He caught her jacket sliding off her shoulders out of the corner of his eye. You can't just whip out the corset whenever you want to distract me y'know. He teased, though he was thankful for the distraction from the conversation that had gotten a little dark. For a few minutes he considered pulling the car over there were a few birthday festivities that he'd like to have before he was too tired from driving but then they'd never get to where they were going. I'm pretty convinced you're trying to kill me. He could kick himself over and over again for not realizing how sexy Dani had become sooner and wasting way too much time.

Dani laughed and grabbed one of the bags of kisses. It had been a while since the restaurant and she was beyond ready to get to a hotel. Baby if I had planned it, you would know. And if I wanted to distract you I would. Id rather wait until we stop somewhere with a bed though. she wasn't even sure where they were going, but by the looks of the energy drinks in the back it wasn't going to be any time soon. Maybe she should offer to drive at some point so he could sleep. You know I can drive if you set the GPS, right? You don't have to do it the whole time. Unless you don't trust me with your baby.

He glanced at the GPS, there wasn't any way he could speed anymore than he had been since they left. I have back seat you know. He teased even the idea of cramming his 6'2 self in the back seat of his sports car sounded like a leg cramp at worst time waiting to happen. He quickly debated whether he'd let Dani drive or not, on one hand his car was his baby, and he had never let anyone drive it besides Jasper and himself though he had considered letting Dani borrow it a few times even though she usually borrowed a car from another friend. His was way cooler. He slowed down and pulled the car over on the side of the road giving her a smile. It was her birthday after all, right? He leaned over placing his hand on the back of her head so he could give her a hard kiss on the mouth before sliding out of the driver seat. Fine, You drive.

Dani sat there in shock for a few moments because there was no way in the world Gem was actually going to let her drive his car. At night. In an unfamiliar place. Apparently he was though because he had already gotten out of the car and appeared to be waiting on her to get out and switch seats.
Throwing her jacket in the back, she got out in to the chilly air and walked around the front until she was standing in front of him. Thanks babe. Now it's your turn to keep the tunes going. She teased, wrapping her arms around him in a tight hug before getting in the front seat. Once Gem was in side she carefully put the car in gear and took back off down the road. She wasn't going quite as fast as he had been, but it was still progress and she didn't have to worry about him getting too tired.

Gem scrolled through his playlist in an attempt to find a song that wasn't rap or hip hop. He liked all kinds of music but usually the content of most hip hop songs spokes to him and his life style. He settled on a top 40's play station on Pandora. He tried to keep the anxiousness off his face as Dani drove. It wasn't that he didn't trust her especially considering she didn't seem to be going nearly as fast as he usually drove but Gem liked to have control and not being the driver usually made him a little nervous, not being the driver of his pride and joy made him a lot nervous. You're like girlfriend status. No girl has ever driven my car. ever. He had to admit despite his nervousness Dani did look pretty hot behind the wheel.

Her eyes went wide at the mention of the "g-word". That one was pretty off limits for anyone when it came to Gem, even her. Maybe some day she had hoped they could label it, but this was kind of sudden. Girlfriend, huh? Remind me to update my relationship status later. As far as the interwebs know, I'm still single and mingling. She was teasing of course, but to make sure he knew, she turned her eyes away from the road long enough to flash him a playful grin.
The road in front of them seemed to stretch on forever, but the lack of traffic was comforting. Dani refused to take the car over 65 because if she wrecked it she would never forgive herself. She wasn't Becca, after all. Soon the GPS indicated that they were out of Yellowston entirely. One step closer to freedom baby. No wyoming, no problems. She grinned, dancing along to some song she didn't know on the radio. This was one of the best times of her life, she could already tell.

He knew considering their strange relationship he had no claims on Dani, he was in no position to request she let anyone know that they had anything going aside from being friends but a part of him wanted to, even if it was to let other guys know that she was spoken for, sort of.
Yes. Screw you Yellowstone and Wyoming. Wyoming is a stupid state anyway. He laughed watching her dance Wow Babe, with moves like that you should have gotten up on the stage and danced with me in Vegas.

If I would've gotten on stage with you in Vegas, you would've drug me to the nearest convent and never let me out. Dani laughed, choosing to ignore his comment on their relationship status for a minute. Vegas and the stripping incident was much more entertaining. I honestly thought you were going to throw me over your shoulder and drag me back to the hotel room when you threw your shirt at me. The look on your face was priceless and I'm so happy I have it on camera. Deer in the headlights wasn't even appropriate to describe Gem's face.
Noticing that it was time for them to get on a more busy road, Dani pulled over at a rest stop. She needed to run inside for at least a minute, plus Gem might not want her driving his baby in traffic. Those back roads were fine, but out here...it made her a little nervous. Hand me my phone and I'll change it. I'm not sure what too, but I will if it bothers you. I just don't know what to call it. No labels, you know? She answered honestly, looking at him in the faint light from a street lamp outside the car. Maybe it was time to reevaluate things, if that was where he was heading with this.

His feelings about the Vegas strip club outfit had become a very confusing Gem in the last few weeks at the time he had been mortified, now he wouldn't mind seeing it again both on and off. I was just trying to protect your from hormonal men who only had one thing on their mind. Okay? His face was mock serious before he shrugged Whoops, my bad. he sighed How many pictures from that night do you have seriously? You like to watch the video don't you? He gave her a dramatic wink. He thought back to the Vegas trip and smiled it had definitely had been an adventure. He unbuckled his seat belt when Dani stopped at the rest stop he wasn't going to make her stomach but he definitely felt better being the one driving as they got into a busier area. Hopefully their first stop wouldn't be too much longer until their next stop. He handed her her phone before getting out of the car Put in a relationship. We are in one..ish Maybe they would need to have a talk at some point though he wasn't sure he wanted to do it now. He stepped out of the car stretching, it felt good to not be crammed in the car even if it was only for a short period of time.

Dani laughed softly, leaning against the hood of the car as she made the changes. Of course he was trying to save her from guys exactly like him. It was such a gem thing to do. There. It's official, we are a thing of some sort. Walking over to where Gem was standing, she kissed him hard before stepping away to watch the cars pass on the dark highway. Being away from all the stress left her with a serene feeling at the moment. Maybe if they could stay away from too many heavy conversations this trip could be good for them in more ways than one. So how far do we have left? I'm not necessarily tired, but if we're driving much more...well I might need to inspect what you brought along clothes wise and at least pray for a cardigan. she teased, wrapping an arm around his waist. Her jacket was still in the car and the autumn air was a little cold for her liking.

He wrapped his arms around her in attempt to keep the fall chill off of her. It shouldn't be too much longer, especially with me driving again, slow poke. He teased before he placed a kiss against her jaw line. The sooner they got to the hotel the better he wasn't tired after the coffee and the the energy drink but being in the car was starting to get old. He walked back around to the drivers seat. After Dani had gotten in her pulled back on to highway. His curiosity was getting the best of him So how many people have you slept with? He blurted out he hoped He didn't piss her off by asking ultimately it really didn't matter, it's not like She'd ever be up where he was in numbers.
