Somebody shine a light i'm frozen by the fear in me
It was late, really late. Raven had suck out of the dorm making sure not to wake her roommate. She couldn't sleep, there was just too much on her mind. She got herself dressed and was now standing under a tree in Zellner Lawn, breathing in the crisp air. She had so much going on in her head and she didn't know what to do. Usually she would talk with one of her pets to calm her mind but she couldn't to that here. She was used to the sleepless night though. Granted she had slept better being at the Academe, there were still night where she just couldn't fall asleep. Usually she would grab a book and not risk going out after curfew, but tonight was different.
Opening her phone she was contemplating on texting someone. She didn't want to wake anyone. She didn't know what to do. She was horrid at using the phone. Even if she did have unlimited text and calls she maybe made one or two calls a month and sent out maybe twenty text. Half the time she left the phone in the dorm. She needed to change that. If she had friends she needed to stay in contact with them and keep the phone on her if they needed to contact her. That was the reason she got the blasted thing. Her social skills needed some work.
She looked through her contacts and found Ralph's name. Now there was someone she needed to talk to. After talking with Dani she became concerned for her friend but hadn't had a chance to talk with him after that. She shot him a quick text asking if he was up. It was really simple but she didn't want to make it seem like an emergency for him to come find her, which wouldn't be hard. She put her phone in her jacket pocket and looked up at the stars through the tree as she leaned against the bark.

Ralph's powers are actually that of Animal Morphing but he has yet to actually fully morph so it seems like its mere mimicry. Currently his abilities mean he has heightened senses, sight, hearing and scent.He also is highly sensitive to emotions and feelings (you've guessed it, yes be can smell fear). His powers are in the process of development and he's soon going to do the full morph. He's obviously very hairy from the power and he's also got many Wolf like quirks for example he will fight to gain dominance and if you win he is submissive. He sleeps curled up and will chase a ball if thrown to him. Another note is that Ralph is a carnivore and he eats ten times more than any eighteen year old does, he won't eat vegetables willingly. Also he's not allowed to have raw meat even slightly under cooked because it risks making him feral. He's also stronger than most eighteen years old and fitter with sharper reflexes but he's fairly easy to defeat when necessary, tranquilizers work very well.

Ralph also had his own trouble sleeping and he now knew that had a lot to do with his other canine form he'd only realized exsisted about two nights ago. That was part of the reason but another reason was the nightmares he'd had of him in his Wolf form hunting and usually hurting his friends, Dani, Raven and Gem. He'd have the nightmares over and over sometimes he could wake up but other times he couldn't. The subject of his latest nightmare was in fact his best friend, Raven and despite his best attempts to force himself awake before he killed her didn't work but he was startled awake not long after. He couldn't go back to sleep so he'd got up and got dressed before sneaking out for a walk around the Academy. As much as he wanted to check in on Raven just to make sure she was okay, he knew that she probably wouldn't appreciate being woken up.
He was slightly alarmed by the text that the received a moment later, but reassured himself that she just wanted some company. He texted her back saying he was up and coming to find her. It didn't take long for Ralph to pick up his best friends scent and track it to Zellner Lawn where his friend was standing under a tree and to his relief in one piece and without even a scratch on her. He walked over to her with a smile on his face that probably looked a little dopey due his lack of sleep. "Hey! What's up?" he asked as he approached her.

She was shocked by how quick she received a response to the text. She smiled slightly at her phone. It figures he wasn't asleep. It didn't shock her though, especially after hearing about his powers from Dani. She put her phone up and waited under the tree. She listened to a nearby owl hunting for a small field mouse. She remembered trying to be a vegetarian for a little bit when she was first learning her abilities but that didn't last long. Animals didn't care, especially the predators. Now she just looked at it as apart of the natural food chain.
It was a very stray thought and she wondered why she was thinking about it when Ralph showed up. She waved and smiled. "Couldn't sleep, one of those nights. What about you?" She answered in her normal sing-song voice. She was worried about her friend but she didn't want to voice those concerns. She rather him just tell her. She didn't like to push. She knew when he was ready he would tell her what was going on. Just like when she was ready to let people know about her past she would say something.

Ralph may not admit it to Raven but the sound of chirpy, singsong voice had never made him happier than it did just then. After the nightmares he'd had he was convinced she wasn't alive. "Me neither." Ralph said about not being able to sleep. "It's just been one of those weeks." Ralph added standing next to Raven now. Just being near his friend was a comfort to the shifter, he just had make sure she was safe himself otherwise he'd never be able to sleep again. He wasn't attached to all that many people but Raven was definitely one of them, Dani as well but he knew that she could handle herself. Raven was a little more vulnerable and seemed a little more fragile than Dani.
Ralph bit his lip a little, he wasn't sure whether to tell Raven about his shifting earlier in the week. He knew that if anyone could help when he shifted again it was her but he didn't know how she would respond consider that he'd frightened Dani earlier in the week with it. "So turns out I'm not a Mimic." Ralph said. He wasn't sure if Dani had told Raven considering they were roommates, if she had Raven wasn't letting on.

From the story Dani had said, he really had a rough week. It wasn't everyday that you find out that you were completely wrong about your ability and then try to attack your girlfriends. What she needed to do right now was just be a supportive friend. She figured Ralph was going to be at least a little distraught about the whole situation and she didn't want to add to that. She was glad when he did tell her. As simple as it was she could tell by his actions he was wondering if he should. She just smiled and nodded.
"Yeah Dani told me what happened. It must have been a very intense and confusing experience" She stated thinking back on the story Dani told her. If her roommate was terrified she could only wonder what Ralph went through. Raven wasn't so sure how she would have fared in that situation. Sure she could talk with him but if it was necessary would she try to control him? She didn't like to control animals and she wasn't even sure if she could with someone who was just shape shifting into one. It was a question she had a feeling she would find the answer to sooner than she would like.

He just vaguely remembers his Alter-Ego or whatever that was trying to eat Dani or just kill her. "That doesn't even cover the half of it." Ralph said. He sat himself down in grass and picked at a few of the blades of grass. He couldn't imagine himself ever hurting anyone he considered a friend but clearly his Alter-ego had other ideas.
"I can't remember anything apart from trying to hurt Dani." Ralph said, it was kinda quiet and his head was lowered. The whole thing had been so difficult to comprehend without any memory of the actual experience. The thing he did remember was the pain, before and the aching he'd felt since."It hurts more than anything and I can't even remember what happened. " Ralph gave out a frustrated growl, he wished he could remember what had happened in-between the gaps in his memory but he couldn't and it was most definitely frustrating.

Raven sat down next to Ralph, still leaning her back against the tree. It was strange how sitting under a tree could make someone feel so safe and at home. Right then there was no other place where she believed she would feel safer. At the school, with her best friend and under a tree of all places. She felt really bad that there really wasn't anything she could do about the situation. She wanted to help but what could she really do. Sure if he got out of control there was the chance she could deal with that, but it didn't make her feel any better. She hated being useless.
"This is a shot in the dark but do you think you can't remember and maybe have to deal with so much pain because you are rejecting the wolf side. I know it sounds crazy but it sounds like when you transformed you had this other side, the wolf and you can't remember what the wolf did. You have been fighting it maybe the answer is to embrace it" Her voice was low as she spoke. It was an insane notion but she couldn't think of anything else. What would make him forget if he was the wolf unless there were two minds there, him and the animal. They were one in the same but if he didn't see it that way then logically there would be problems. "I know crazy right?" She chuckled slightly. The thought still ran through her head.

| Notes// Friend bonding | Ralph listened to what she suggested about accepting the wolf side and honestly it made a lot of sense. If he didn't fight the instinct or habits of his wolf side then it wouldn't be so demanding to make an apperance. "It makes a lot of sense." Ralph said. It wasn't as simple as that though truly, it was far more complex. Ralph's wold side didn't react to the people Ralph was close to in the same way and it might just hurt all those he loves, like it might've done with Dani had he not gained control. "I don't trust it. What if it hurts Dani or you or even Gem. Anybody really." Ralph expressed his concern to his friend. The two were close and Ralph trusted Raven to keep this between them for now.
"I mean i'm the wolf and the wolf is me but I wouldn't dream of hurting Dani." Ralph said, he was thinking out loud and trying to process this information a little more. He thought about when Raven had seen him in the library a while back. "Remember my nose bleeding in the library a couple of weeks back?" Ralph asked. It seemed to make sense to him now that it was his wolf side trying to make an apperance. "It was the wolf wanting some time right?" he asked like Raven would know. Even if she didn't having someone just there to listen was helpful.

He had every right to not trust the wolf side. She didn't blame him at all for what happened or almost happened. She knew if he was in his right mind then he wouldn't be so worried. "I figure it was. Maybe it has always been trying to come out and some recent circumstance made it possible" Raven thought back to the time in the library. It would put everything into perspective and it did make a lot of sense that all this time it was just his wolf side trying to emerge.
"Well that is why we are at the school. Right? To learn all aspects of our abilities and how to control them to the point we can be functioning members of society" Raven was being slightly sarcastic at the last part. But the statement was true. That is what the school was for. Maybe those lessons with Asher would have more meaning now to her friend. She wondered if it was not exactly mistrust but fear of the wolf that was making her friend uneasy. She didn't want to voice that though, she knew Ralph was proud and right now she didn't need to make him feel even more down.

| Notes// Friend bonding | Being an animal Morpher was one thing but having an animal Alter-ego was something else and it was definitely nothing he knew anything about."It was an ordinary night though, when I shifted." Ralph said, he couldn't think of anything that had happened recently to trigger something like that. Getting drunk in Vegas probably didn't help but if that was going to trigger it then it would've happened in Vegas, maybe it did and Ralph couldn't remember. "I just don't want to hurt anybody." Ralph said. He reclined back on his arms as the cool night breeze blew gently, it was definitely soothing. "I'm pretty sure it ate some rabbits though." Ralph said, he didn't remember his Wolf form eating them but his human form hadn't agreed with them and they'd made a reappearance the next morning. How he could tell it was rabbit was beyond him but it definitely was, he'd then proceed to mouthwash at least four times to rid himself of the nasty taste.
Ralph was too lost in his own thoughts to hear the sarcasm in Raven's voice. "I'm here as a Mimic though." Ralph said. He didn't have any doubt that the Trainers had experience dealing with Morphers but he had come to Ashford as a mimic and his training was kind of Mimic centered. He didn't need to learn how to control his power before just how to get the best out of it. He wasn't scared of the Wolf side of him, after all it couldn't harm him, he was scared of the fact that it could in fact harm everyone he cared about and that wasn't something Ralph wanted. "Maybe I should just hide out in the woods." Ralph commented although he wasn't that serious about it. "You control it right?" it was a simple question but the answer was important to Ralph and he knew that Raven would know it was too.

HER POWER TO TALK WITH ANIMALS IS MORE OF THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THEM. ANIMALS SEEMS TO UNDERSTAND HUMAN SPEECH AND HER MIND CAN TRANSLATE ANIMAL SPEECH TO SOMETHING SHE CAN UNDERSTAND. CONTROLLING IS A BIT DIFFERENT. IT ISN'T A SPOKEN COMMAND IT IS MORE OF A MENTAL ONE. IT TAKES TOTAL CONCENTRATION AND SHE CAN'T CONTROL AN ANIMAL FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR, NOT THAT SHE WANTS TO. ANY LONGER AND IT CAUSES MASSIVE HEADACHES, NOSE BLEEDS AND IN SOME CASES SHE WILL PASS OUT BUT THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN TILL THE TWO HOUR MARK. THE SIMPLER THE COMMAND THE EASIER IT IS TO CONTROL THE ANIMALS. RAVEN PREFERS TO JUST ASK THE ANIMAL IF THEY ARE WILLING TO DO SOMETHING RATHER THAN CONTROL THEM. IF HER CONCENTRATION IS BROKEN SHE LOOSES CONTROL.

Raven thought carefully as he spoke. Something wasn't adding up. She did chuckle at the eating rabbits bit. Typical wolf thing to do, go hunting. She looked over at Ralph with concerned eyes. "Are you sure this was the first time. Just a shot in the dark but were there any other times where you have a memory blank. It is possible that it happened suddenly. These powers are a strange thing but it just doesn't add up" She didn't want to alarm him or make him feel like she didn't believe, or knew better. Which she didn't, just something was missing from the equation and it was bugging her.
"Now now, you know hiding in the woods isn't going to solve anything. I am sure school won't be the issue here. Besides with the heads of this school being as powerful as they claim with knowing all of our abilities I have to wonder if they already knew. Maybe just waiting for you to figure it out" Sure it was a crazy notion and right now her thoughts were all over the place. She didn't know how she could help and it was quite upsetting. The question about control brought her mind back into focus. What was she to say? She did not know. She had never tried to control a shifter and wasn't sure it was within her abilities. Sure theoretically it was possible but in practice, well there was no practice. "Yes, that is within the perimeters of my abilities" Her tone was serious, and she made sure there was no sign of doubt. It wasn't a total lie and if it was for Ralph's sake, she would do everything in her power to reassure him. Even if it meant stepping far out of her normal boundaries.

Ralph's powers are actually that of Animal Morphing but he has yet to actually fully morph so it seems like its mere mimicry. Currently his abilities mean he has heightened senses, sight, hearing and scent.He also is highly sensitive to emotions and feelings (you've guessed it, yes be can smell fear). His powers are in the process of development and he's soon going to do the full morph. He's obviously very hairy from the power and he's also got many Wolf like quirks for example he will fight to gain dominance and if you win he is submissive. He sleeps curled up and will chase a ball if thrown to him. Another note is that Ralph is a carnivore and he eats ten times more than any eighteen year old does, he won't eat vegetables willingly. Also he's not allowed to have raw meat even slightly under cooked because it risks making him feral. He's also stronger than most eighteen years old and fitter with sharper reflexes but he's fairly easy to defeat when necessary, tranquilizers work very well.

Ralph considered what Raven said for a moment. "Well there's Vegas, Between Gem proposing to some stripper and waking up on a random roof top its blank." Ralph said, "But there was a lot of alcohol involved so it might've been that." if Vegas had taught Ralph anything it was that alcohol tasted nasty and the next morning wasn't worth it at least in his opinion it wasn't. He knew Raven believed him, plus Dani had told her about it too so how could she not believe him. He just wished he could remember something about when he shifted other than trying to hurt his sort of girlfriend and Raven's roommate.
"If that's the case a heads up would've been amazing. " Ralph said, maybe the head of Ashford did know he was a Morpher but not telling him wasn't achieving anything good so why didn't they just say. "You know, a simple Hey Ralph by the way you might change into a Wolf would've been nice." Ralph commented but honestly he didn't care, he found out himself if that was what the wanted, it happened. Ralph felt relife was over him at the idea that Raven could control his wolf side, it just gave him some form of reassurance that if something went wrong and he was going to attack someone Raven could help. "We should test it next time I change. " Ralph suggested, just to see if could work rather than if it did.

She could not hold back the smile when he mentioned not being able to stomach the rabbits. Maybe him and the wolf were two separate beings. No, she shook the idea from her mind. A wolf's stomach could digest things humans couldn't it was just a biological structure thing. Vegas, drinking? That would do it. Maybe since Ralph never did drink the additive of alcohol made it easier for the wolf to surface "That might just be it. You don't drink so maybe adding alcohol to your system allowed the wolf to surface" She suggested. That would make everything to add up.
"Yeah but that would be too easy" She laughed at the idea of any of the teachers telling him that he might morph into a wolf. It would be a good idea to test it out but she would rather do so in a safe environment. "You know we might just have that chance. You still doing the group training with Asher?" Raven inquired. That way if it failed she could blame it on the class. Not that she wanted to fail but she also didn't know of a better place to practice where it would be safe encase she did fail. Raven stood up. "Hey lets go for a walk. It might ease your mind" She took a deep breath and she smiled her usual warm smile.

| Notes// Friend bonding | Ralph smiled back at Raven, it was the only amusing thing that had come of this situation. Other than that Ralph was having a hard time getting his head around. It made logical sense for the Alcohol to have made it easier for him to shift, plus there was quiet a lot of adrenaline which was probably a killer combination in unleashing the beast. "You know I think you're right." he said to her. He knew drinking was a bad idea and before he'd never have touched alcohol and he probably wouldn't again. "Rest assured I'm not doing that again anytime in the near future. " he added in reference to the drinking.
Ralph had totally forgotten about group training with his worst nightmare, namely Asher. So it was an exaggeration and truthfully Ralph wasn't that scared of Asher, his training session did just seem a little bit daunting and if he knew about Ralph being a shifter he might just force a shift which wouldn't end well. "I'm doing group training but you can't tell him about it. Please." Ralph said. He didn't want Asher to know, he didn't think he wanted anyone else to know but the two that already did. Her suggestion of a walk sounded good, Ralph stood up and offered his hand to help her stand. Maybe a walk would ease his mind enough that he could sleep, because he really could do with some.

Raven shook her head. "Don't worry I won't say anything" She smiled as she let him help her up. She wasn't one to say anything when asked to keep quiet. Raven knew the importance of a secret. She started walking with no thoughts to where she was going. Just walk. There was so much information to take in and so many different emotions everywhere. It was strange seeing the people she always looked to as strong to well, fall for a lack of a better term. First Dani almost having a break down in the dorms. She did learn more about her roommate but that didn't make it better, just strange. Now Ralph with the whole wolf thing and worried about killing people. Sure she knew having powers came with risk and everyone had their troubles, but things were just getting out of hand.
The worst part about it all was that she felt useless. There was nothing she could do but stand there. She was never the strong one. Sure she could be. She was independent and proud. She had the ability to hold everyone up but no one every saw her in that way. She never gave anyone any reason to. She was always happy, never yelled or cried. How could anyone think she could help out? The thought was really depressing but she couldn't get it out of her mind. These were her friend, the only ones she ever had. Ralph was the first person she was ever close to, even more so than her brother and she still didn't know him truly. She needed to stop hiding behind everyone, stop being afraid. To bad it wasn't that easy. She kept walking in silence, the thoughts swimming in her head.
