Even though the fall air was chilly and most people had taken refuge inside, Dani found herself in the small courtyard outside the student union for lunch. Only a few other people had ventured out, most of them bundled up against the brisk breeze like she was. Even then, she was the only one outside eating ice cream.
She he couldn't help it though. After a few days of not hearing from her brother, Dani had been given the real reason behind why she hadn't been allowed to come home and visit for the break. Finley had gone missing and to keep her at Ashford, no one had said a word.
It it was so odd, how she didn't know. The letters and e-mails were stil coming fairly regularly, but she was worried that something had happened to him now. How long had it been? A week or two at the least by here count.
The only thing Dani could still do was pull out her phone and shoot off another email to fin. Something along the lines of "please go home" or "call me". Maybe he would answer soon.

I'm a land mine." Finley wasn't feeling up to eating, he had some toast or something for breakfast he couldn't remember. He'd been told that he had to eat though so he got an apple and was eating through as he walked around the place. He eventually found his way to the student union and despite the cold weather there were a few people milling around the courtyard. Most people were hugging their jumpers to themselves in an attempt to stave of the cold wind that whistled through. Finley was wearing his leather jacket and he felt perfectly warm in it even if it was hanging open. He felt bad for not emailing Dani for a bit but everything that had been happening he was exhausted by the time he got into his dorm and promptly passed out every time. Only to wake up in a blind panic from a nightmare or something else. He like walking around the Academy, it was his way of trying to get the place to feel more permanent but it wasn't helping and already Finely was getting cold feet, itching to go elsewhere. Fin checked his phone where an email from Dani just came through and he turned to head back to his dorm so he could reply or not. Just as he was about to leave the courtyard he spotted a girl eating ice cream despite the cold, he couldn't help but smile, Dani would've done that. It took a few seconds but when it finally clicked Fin had to do a double take, Dani was sat a few yards away from him completely oblivious to his existence. Fin didn't know what to do, he couldn't not speak to her but what would she think about him running away, what would she do when she saw him. None of this made any sense and when he'd finally made his way over to his sister, he didn't know what to say. She had been staring at her phone for a few minutes, willing her brother to answer. Not having contact with Finley was driving her more insane than usual, to the point that she could've swore she heard his voice saying her name. The noise came from in front of her though, alerting her that someone was in fact standing there.
And that someone was her brother.
Time seemed to slow down as her. I don't went in to overdrive, trying to figure out how Fin was there and what to say. That, and she was slightly worried that he had just snuck on to campus without permission. Several students, like Ralph, had defining features from their powers and very few of them tried to conceal themselves around here. This was the only place in the world where they got to truly be themselves so they tended to take full advantage of it.
Finally she stood up and crossed the space between them, stopping when he was just out of arms reach. It was definitely her twin, though he had definitely grown up during their time apart. Then again, so had she. " Finley? What are you doing? You can't be here." She reasoned, her concern and confusion etched momentarily in her features before a calm mask settled back over them. |

I'm a land mine." Finley wasn't sure how Dani would react to him being here and the time it took for her to finally stand up and close the space between them felt like an age. Their time apart felt like an age and by the looks of Dani it was, when Fin looked at his sister and how much she'd grown he was definitely surprised. In their time away from his sister she'd really grown into a young woman and Finley suddenly realized he might have to deal with guys trying to hook up with his twin. It wasn't something he'd ever really thought about till now and it was scary. Finley wasn't sure how he expected this to go down, he definitely hadn't been prepared to see his twin sister ever again. "Well, I'm definitely not here for the same reason as you!" Her question only confused him more and he before he could stop himself the words came out a little cold and harsh. He saw the concern and confusion in Dani's eyes but it quickly dissappered, "I bought a building down on myself." Fin said but it was mumbled reply and the hand he was scrubbing down his face only muffled the reply more. Finley bit his bottom lip a little, this was just a bit awkward and he had no idea what to say to Dani it seemed their time apart had left a ridge in their relationship. Fin's first answer was so shocking to her that she almost didn't hear the second. Hurt and rage, aimed at both Fin and Principal Ashford, collided and then festered underneath her skin. Before she could fully register that he had inadvertently admitted to having powers, Dani snapped at him. "Great. Just great. So you still haven't worked past the damn memory block. I don't know who the hell you think I am, but when you remember, give me a call." Before she could storm off, she remembered the bag sitting on the table. She'd need that later and was beyond caring if they had to manipulate fin again. Finding the invisible string attached to her books, Dani summoned them in to her hand, dragging the backpack they were in along with them. She didn't even look at her brother as she stormed past, intending to leave him then and there for the sanctuary of Gem's dorm room. |

I'm a land mine." Fin instantly felt bad, he shouldn't have let his frustrations get to him so that he snapped at Dani. He didn't believe his own words either, he knew his twin better than anyone and Dani was not the type of person to assault someone at least not with a deadly weapon. Her words in response had however caught his attention. Mental block? This was a new development and something he'd not know about. "Wait! What mental block?" Fin said. This didn't help for the frustration he felt and although nobody else would feel it, the earth beneath his feet was beginning to move in accordance with his emotions. What Dani did next had everything clicking into place in the young man's mind. This turned his frustration to anger and he frowned, "You're SPB?" Fin said he knew that if he didn't calm down the earth around him was going start quaking and potentially hurt his twin. "I've been lied to." Fin said now clenching his fists as he buried the anger that he felt. He needed answers and anger wasn't going to get him there. The pain up his arms indicated that maybe suppressing this wasn't a good idea but it wasn't long before the ground settled underneath him, he looked down at his arms and they were like the first time his power manifested covered in bruises, thankfully he hadn't broken any bones this time. Something about Fin's tone and the way he looked like he was shaking stopped Dani in her tracks. Her 'twin-sense' as Finley was fond of calling it was going off hardcore, especially whenever the bruises appeared on his arms. Throwing the books down, she walked over to him and forcefully grabbed his arm, turning it so she could see the bruises better. "Kinetic? What kind?" She started, her inspection complete. It was definitely something she had done before, but probably not this methodically. How many times had they been followed home by bullies, or worse, back home? Bruises had been the least of their problems in those days.
"And yes, the principal erased and manipulated your memories to make you think that I assaulted someone. I'm a telumkinetic, emphasis on weapons summoning. I took the kid's knife and he flipped, tried to turn me in to the police. The best they could do was a trumped up assault charge to keep people from looking in to it too far." Part of her wanted to say that his precious foster parents hadn't even fought for her, but she knew it wasn't their fault. They had stronger blocks than Finley and would never remember those days, even if they tried.

Although generally he didn't cause the bruises himself it was usually some other third party. "Geokinetic." Fin said shrugging. At least she wasn't storming off now and he was getting a chance to figure this whole thing out. When his twin finally explained that the professor had manipulated him and she had in fact merely disarmed the knife wielding kid. "That son of a..." Finley trailed of, there was no point getting wound up again. "I knew you'd never do something like that." it made sense now why his foster parents didn't believe him when he said that Dani couldn't do something like that. Finley flopped down in a nearby chair with a sigh. He had no idea what to say next and he'd definitely gotten of on the wrong foot with his own twin. "They looked at me like I was going to turn into some kind of criminal, they judged me because of what they thought you did. Everyday at school, at home, even walking down the street I'd see them looking at me with these accusing looks. That didn't matter though what mattered was that not a soul believed me when I said you wouldn't do something like that." Finley had eventually stopped even being bothered by those looks and the judgemental way people treated him, but at least he now knew that he was right and all those arguments with his foster parents weren't in vain and running away had clearly not been in vain either. A weary sigh escaped her lips as Dani sat down across from Fin and summoned the bag back to her side, just like she had earlier. Using her powers felt good, it always had. Like it was the one thing that truly made sense in the world. "I'm sorry you had to go through that, Fin, I really am. I did try to come home this summer though, and the one before that. I didn't want to leave. At least we're together now though, all of us." If they were going to do the whole confession thing, she might as well get this part out of the way.
Kaelyn was a subject she hadn't quite discussed with anyone yet, other than Kaelyn herself. How do you tell people that one of the most popular, wealthy girls in school is related to a low life foster kid? Most didn't even know Kaelyn was adopted, much less that she had siblings besides the page girl.
"Our sister, the one that was adopted without us...she's here. Aria is here, Fin. Her name is Kaelyn now and we just found out over the summer...but for the first time since we were little, we have a chance at being a family." Well, at least with their older sister. Dear old Dad was still MIA and hadn't shown any signs of showing up ever again. Maybe it was for the best.

That was definitely going to take getting used to but then she might think that same thing if he was using his powers. He wouldn't though not here anyway and not with Dani so close. "You know what it doesn't matter. You're here that is what matters." Fin gave her a smile, because honestly those days didn't matter and once he'd run away from it all. "So you've not been back for two summers?" Fin asked, he wouldn't know if she'd been back or not. The fact that she said that they were all there made Finley believe that their other older sibling had also graced Ashford with her presence. He didn't know their older sister at all and it felt strange to him to think that after being split up for so long all three were once again reunited, life was definitely a funny thing. "If she's here that means she's SPB too right?" Fin said, he wasn't trying to ask stupid questions it was just that he had a misconception of the type of people that came to Ashford from the mental block, he'd seriously thought that it was a school to reform wayward teens. "i haven't been back since you left." She answered shortly. That was something they definitely needed to talk about at some point, but not right now. It was too soon and they had too many things to figure out first. Like what was going to happen next and how they were going to figure out a way around his mental block. That thing had to go ASAP. "And technically some of us are here for reform, but it's mostly because our powers for us in to trouble or they had bad parents who exploited them. Lucky for us, we didn't have that problem." her tone suggested sarcasm, but to an extent she was telling the truth. What if her dad was a criminal? She would've ended up like some of her friends, hardened criminals with rap sheets a mile long.
"I want you to know that I stayed away because I thought that was what was best until I was old enough and in more control. They said you wouldn't be safe until then and I didn't want to hurt you." Other than her best friend, Fin was the only one she worried about. There just wasn't enough room in her world for something like that, other than possibly Ralph. Yup, her three guys had a monopoly on her heart right now.

I'm a land mine." Fin nodded, running away probably wasn't the best way to deal with situation but he wanted answers because nothing about the situation at the time made sense. It did a little more now but his memories of that fateful day remained the same so it hadn't really cleared anything about that up. He just hoped that he'd eventually remember the event how it actually occurred. "Right but you're not here for reform like they told us you were." Finely said. He probably didn't seem like the brightest crayon in the box at the moment but he had a lot to take in. Like the fact that he'd thought his sister was here for assaulting someone but in fact she actually had powers. The slightly sarcastic tone in her voice did make Finely roll his eyes though, that was the Dani he'd grown up with, sarcastic even if what she was saying was indeed true. "We could've had it a lot worse." sure they had it rough but they turned out okay, a little battered and brusied but okay. Finley understood Dani staying away because she didn't want to hurt him. He probably would've been the same if he'd been in her situation. Thankfully for him his power manifested when he was alone and noone got hurt but himself. It did make him feel bad again about his earlier comments, "I'm sorry again Dani about what I said earlier its just a lot to take in." Finley said. Fin didn't apologize to anyone except his twin, in fact he couldn't be bothered with other people and often found that Dani was the only person that knew him well enough to know he wasn't quiet and grouchy all the time. "Don't apologize, but don't come in here talking about things that you don't have the first clue about. It's been a long few years Fin." To an extent she almost wanted to lecture her twin, to let him know every little thing that she had gone through while he was gone. They were supposed to be a team, but he had been a late bloomer so they got split up. It wasn't technically his fault, but still. If he would've gotten his powers on time things would have been a hundred times better.
Her remaining anger started to fade away though as she took a minute to look at her twin. He was here. Fin was really here. "Is it bad that I can't decide whether I want to run and make you meet everyone right now or if I just want to go hang out with you somewhere so we can catch up? I mean, the best friend is MIA, but you could definitely meet the rest of the gang and Ralph." The words my boyfriend lingered in the air even though she didn't actually say them. Relationships were the last thing she really wanted to discuss right now.

Fin's powers are earth manipulation, meaning he can control earth and its elements. He can also tell you where to find different preacious metals. He can generate earthquakes, landslides and sinkholes, which he did when his power first manifested. He doesn't know how to control it yet, his emotions do that for him, the earthquaked are triggered by his anger. Currently he is supressing it and it then quakes inside him breaking his bones. If he's not internalising it, he goes huge and brings down buildings, or simks them.The problem with Fin's power is that he is limited to how long he can use it, it varies depending on what he's doing with it but usually about five minutes is his limit, sometimes it's as little as thirty seconds before he passes out, he is the weak for the next hour and it takes five to be able to use his power again. With enough control he could isolate the tremors to a much smaller area and even stop major quakes but he's miles off that yet.

I'm a land mine." Finley nodded as he rocked back on his chair so the front legs were in the air. It had definitely been a long few years and Finley couldn't agree more. "You're telling me." Fin said. He wished he wasn't such a later bloomer it would've been better for them both but Finley had always just been that bit behind Dani, in fact he was a little bit behind most people his age. Fin smiled at his twin again, it was good to see her and by the looks of it she was keeping pretty well. "Nah its not bad." Finley said with a smirk, "Deciding whether to keep my amazing presence to yourself or share it with the people of this place can't be an easy decision to make." Fin teased before chuckling. Of course Finley would love to meet the people that Dani mentioned, how he would react to them and vica versa. "Well an MIA best friend are the best kind." Not because missing best friends was good but normally because being MIA during school time was brave and usually meant something crazy ensused and who didn't love a little bit of crazy. Finley wasn't a fan of people, meeting new ones was especially difficult for him, but if Dani wanted that then he'd happily go along with it, or he'd try at least. The ability to summon weapons allows Danielle to take any weapon within her line of sight, barring complications such as super strength or another more powerful telumkinetic. She is limited to only two weapons at a time, though she only usually takes one unless she's going for a bow and arrows. They always land safely in her palm with no chances of impalement, even if she turns around or moves her hand. The only way for this to injure another person is if they step in to the path of an incoming weapon before it switches directions. Her definition of the word weapon can be pretty broad, as she can summon anything that she has the intent to use as a weapon or that she has seen used as a weapon before, such as a belt.

There were so many things she wanted to say or do, things she had dreamed of ever since she had left her twin. Telling him about Gem and the others, showing him around this sleepy little town, maybe even training with him or at least showing him her powers. The problem was figuring out where to start and where to go from here.
A thought crossed her mind and she grinned mischievously at her twin. "Hey, what do you say about ditching this place and getting some food off campus? We can catch up and I can yell at you for making me worry like a mad person." That was definitely coming and he knew it. Very few people even had the ability to make her worry and one of them was Finley. She'd have to kill him if he ever did that again. |
