After classes the girl decided to go to the boat house and take a nice trip out to the lake. The scene was beautiful and she liked the peace. She was only out for a couple of hours when she had to bring the canoe back to the boat house. After tying up the canoe that Raven had just been using she decided to sit on the pier attached to the boat house and watch the sun set. It was late and starting to get cool but Raven was being stubborn and not paying attention to the dropping temperature to bother getting her coat that was sitting on top of her bag just out of arms reach behind her. She pulled her knees to her chest and hugged them as she rested her chin on her knees watching the sky darken and the first stars start to shine. She loved watching the transition from light to dark. It was so peaceful and the stars were always beautiful.
She did enjoy being at the school. It was so much better than her previous situation. Sure she was rich and could go out and buy whatever she needed or wanted and sure her life could have been worse. But that didn't change that for her it was pretty bad. She never wanted to go back to that and she knew that her family would love that as well. However she did have to return every now and then just to make an appearance so the family didn't look broken and it kept the stock high or something like that. At least there was one person in her family that didn't see her as some unwanted pet. Her brother was nice and accepted her as a member of the family but he was not around much so life was bleak. That is till she came to the academe. Her parents didn't know of her abilities and were just gracious that she was being sent somewhere that they didn't have to worry about their reputation. She never understood that since she was the child that didn't do anything wrong. It was just how things were she figured.
Raven breathed in the cool air, filling her lungs fully before breathing out slowly. She figured she should head back to the dorms but she didn't move. She didn't want to. She wanted to sit there and watch the stars for a little while longer. She finally was living somewhere where she was wanted. She had friends and people she could lean on. Even teachers who looked out for her. Though there were still those moments where she felt like an outsider, like today. She wasn't overly close to anyone and was still looking in on everything instead of being apart of it. She wasn't sure if that was going to change, she hoped it would though. She really hoped to be apart of something, anything.

Fin's powers are earth manipulation, meaning he can control earth and its elements. He can also tell you where to find different preacious metals. He can generate earthquakes, landslides and sinkholes, which he did when his power first manifested. He doesn't know how to control it yet, his emotions do that for him, the earthquaked are triggered by his anger. Currently he is supressing it and it then quakes inside him breaking his bones. If he's not internalising it, he goes huge and brings down buildings, or simks them.The problem with Fin's power is that he is limited to how long he can use it, it varies depending on what he's doing with it but usually about five minutes is his limit, sometimes it's as little as thirty seconds before he passes out, he is the weak for the next hour and it takes five to be able to use his power again. With enough control he could isolate the tremors to a much smaller area and even stop major quakes but he's miles off that yet.

 "I'm not a ladies' man,
I'm a land mine." He wasn't used to this, he wasn't used to staying in on place for long. Ever since Finley ran away from home he'd been bouncing from place to place and had been to most places in the states. He'd never been in one place for longer than two years so Ashford still had a bit of time before he really felt the itch to leave. Once his classes were done for the day Fin threw on some shorts and a T-shirt before heading out to the lake. He plugged his ear buds into his ear and started his usual run, it helped him clear his head as his music drowned everything else out. Normally a twenty minute run was enough to have the young man feeling better but it wasn't happening today. Since coming to the Academy Fin had felt like he was close to Dani that ever but noone he knew had answers, nobody could tell him anything and it frustrated him. This is why he ended up running for far longer than his body could take and only when he was on the brink of collapsing did he stop. His pace went to a steady walk as the evening breeze started to blow gently dropping the already cool temperatures. Even with the cool breeze Fin wasn't cooling off fast enough for his liking, he pulled his T-shirt over his head and tucked it into the back pocket of his shorts. His steady pace continued as he made his way towards the boat house, it was a great place to just listen to the sounds of the earth. Fin stepped up onto the pier just as the sun was dipping under the horizon. Wrapped up in his own thoughts Fin didn't even spot the girl that was also on the pier, he rested his forearms on one of the wooden rails that prevented people from falling off the pier. The silence was broken from someones shoes walking out onto the pier. Raven's attention didn't waver from looking up at the changing sky. Not a word was said so the girl decided to just enjoy the peace a little longer. She figured whoever it was didn't notice her there so why disrupt any thoughts? She shivered slightly but still didn't feel like moving. She waited till the sun fully dipped over the horizon and the boat lights came on before making her presence known. "Peaceful isn't it?" Her voice was warm and even even though the cold was starting to bother her a bit and she was shivering more.
Three simple words, that was all she said. She figured she didn't need to say anything else to get a conversation started. That is if the other person even wanted to have a conversation. It was very open ended. It wouldn't be strange to just simply answer the question and leave or just remain quiet. Raven figured she would give the other person the decision to speak. Raven looked at the stars starting to appear. So much had changed in the past few years since she came to the academe and she grew to love every moment of it. She had no intention on leaving that is until she finished with the university which for Raven wasn't going to be till she had a doctorate. This was the first place she belonged and wasn't ignored or constantly yelled at. People cared and she could be herself. Sure there were people she wouldn't get along with but compared to what she had known it was nothing.
She let her mind wonder as she waited for the other person to respond. That was the best thing about watching the sky, it was so easy to just watch, no thoughts involved. There was also the sense that anything was possible. Anything could happen and all the answers were available if one was willing to wait. She still had questions, worries, doubts but who didn't. As long as she didn't let it get to her she was able to keep up the smile and the happy attitude.

I'm a land mine." Fin found that watching the sun setting on an old day always made him feel a little more positive for the next one to come, even if it didn't last long. Finley didn't know that someone else was on the pier until the person spoke to him, the girl had a warm friendly voice and Finley decided that she sounded like a pleasant person. "It's definitely peaceful." Fin said, it was peaceful but as the sun set and the night unfolded onto the pier, one would begin to hear the nocturnal animal species make themselves known. Right now the crickets were definitely the loudest thing out there. "It's a good thinking space." Finley wasn't feeling very conversational, he never did but he wasn't rude either so wouldn't simply ignore the girl that had spoken to him. Finley turned his head to look at the girl, she was shivering slightly and her jacket was only just behind her. "It's a little cold out to not have a jacket." Fin said to her. Of course he didn't have a jacket and his shirt was still hanging out of his back pocket but he'd been running and by the looks of the girl she'd been there a while. Finely mimicked the girl and looked up at the sky, out here where the light pollution was quiet low the stars shone really bright and you could see so many more than if you were nearer the Academy. "You can really see the stars out here." Finely said to the girl. He didn't say anything more, he went back to gazing at the water in the lake and the reflection of the stars in it. "It makes you realize just how small and insignificant each we all are." Finley didn't necessarily mean for the girl to hear his ramblings but if she did it didn't bother him. Somehow he found that he liked having company, even if he didn't speak much. It was a very good thinking space. Usually void of people, maybe just the random one or two and the sounds of all the animals was soothing. Granted she couldn't shut off her ability so everything she heard was just conversations. That is unless the animals were just singing or making noise. Right now she listened to the crickets chirp. Insects were slightly different from most animals. She could hear the chirping. She understood it but she heard it like everyone else did. She just ignored the meaning. It was almost like when listening to someone just to hear their voice but not catching what they were saying.
Raven laughed slightly at his comment about the cold. She figured he noticed her shivering. "Yeah, I do have a jacket. I guess when the cold beats my stubbornness I'll grab it. Till then I just want to sit here and enjoy what nature has to offer" She wasn't entirely sure if it was really her stubbornness or her pride that made her not want to move yet. Too proud to admit she needed to jacket or too stubborn to move. Most likely it was both. She was overly independent because of her upbringing and her pride was always an issue. It could also be a good thing, it was all based on the situation.
He was right about seeing the stars. Because of the few lights and not being near a city the stars really shown. It was a beautiful sight. Raven listened to his rambling. Small, maybe but for Raven no one was insignificant. They we just another piece of a vast and amazing universe. "It really does put everything into perspective" Raven responded. Perspective, that's all it was. "I'm Raven by the way" She decided to introduce herself. It seemed the right thing to do. Sure a conversation with a stranger was always interesting but she had a slight feeling that he wasn't going to be a stranger for long.

I'm a land mine." It was the lack of people that drew Fin to this place, at least this time of year anyway. In the warmer months this place tended to get busy with people wanting to go out on the boats but as the fall sets in people start dissappering easily. The insects were noisy but generally that isn't what Finley heard, no Finley heard the earth that they were stood on. People would be surprised to know that the earth actually sang, when tiny undetectable tremors run through the earth the resulting vibrations create a sound that Fin as a Geokinetic could hear. Finley smirked at her when she mentioned waiting until the got the better of her stubbornness before she fetched her jacket. "You won't enjoy what nature has to offer when you get sick or hypothermia." Finley said to her. It was true though, the girl probably wouldn't be very happy if that had happened. Finley pulled his own shirt over his head before running a hand through his hair. He one for conversation and he'd happily sit in companionable silence rather than talk. He was usually lost in his own mind though so having some company forced him out of it a little. He wondered why the girl was alone here at this time of day but he didn't ask, he was curious but not enough to pry. Finley hadn't found anywhere he was truly settled since he'd been split up from his twin, because for Finley home is where the heart is and his was with his family which was Dani. Fin still felt that in comparison to the stars, planets and moons they were small and not really relevant but Raven's comment about things being put into perspective was very true. Looking at the stars also made him realize how big the world truly is and finding one person in such a big place was like finding a needle in a haystack. "Finley." Fin responded. He was right about the Hypothermia. Nature could be cruel sometimes. She had a few scars that depicted that. Even if you could talk to animals that didn't make a person immune to their bites and scratches. Nature was wonderful but at the same time not something to be toyed with. Raven sighed and stretched out before standing. She looked behind her and picked up the jacket covering her bag. She put it on making sure to button it. She felt loads better with the long coat on. Nice and warm. She looked over to the person she had been speaking with. She didn't recognize him. New student maybe? Different class? There could be multiple reasons.
Simple conversations were nice. She found them almost soothing. It was nice having someone around but not feeling the need to fill in the silence with idle chatter. That was one thing she couldn't stand was talking constantly with no real purpose. The person either really liked their voice or didn't like awkward silences. Raven didn't think there was a such thing as an awkward silence, or at least she never experienced it. Just enjoying the company was enough for Raven at times.
"It is nice to meet you Finley" She stated as she turned back to look out at the lake and the stars. This was her home, the only place she felt at home. She really wouldn't wish for anything else. She had friends was going to school and wasn't being told constantly that she was unwanted, a disappointment, waste of space. She figured that anyone could belong here. As long as they were willing to make it work.

I'm a land mine." Nature did have a cold hearted side, even the nature of humans did. It wasn't anything knew to anyone but people often forgot that nature shouldn't necessarily be messed with. Like a lion cub might be cute as a cub but when that large roar echos across the Savannah its not cute its terrifying. Finley knew first hand the damage nature could do when it reared its ugly head, it was seen everywhere whether in the form of Flash floods or earthquakes. Fin looked at her as she looked at him, he didn't recognize her either but then he hadn't been at Ashford long enough to know all the faces just yet. She didn't have a friendly and open face, something which put Fin a little more at ease. Finley had never felt the need to fill every silence even the awkward ones. People were often unnerved by how long Finley could remain quiet without the need to talk. This girl didn't seem to mind though and that left the pier in a comfortable silence. It was good and Finley liked that the girl wasn't going to push for information about him like some might've. "Likewise." Finley said flashing her a smile. He turned himself around so he was now leaving against the rail instead of on it. Home was defined differently by different people and for Finley his home centered around Dani, the only constant in his life up until she was taken away. Something wasn't right about the whole thing and Finley couldn't put his finger on exactly what. Somehow though he didn't believe that Dani could assult anyone at least not with a knife. Somebody shine a light i'm frozen by the fear in me
As much as she didn't want to start heading back to the dorms she knew that it was necessary to do so soon. She never stayed out past curfew. But the night was quite a beautiful one and she really didn't want to leave the pier. Maybe breaking the rules every once in a while was a good thing. She was sure her roommate wouldn't notice, she was good at being quiet. Raven figured staying there a little longer wouldn't make that much of a difference. Since she never really did anything wrong she would most likely just receive a warning. So nothing too bad.
Raven noticed the boy take a seat sighing. She wanted to ask what was wrong. She wanted to help out, but she knew not everyone was open to others prying. She needed to go about it in a different way. But how? She wanted to help out even if there was nothing she could do. She heard an owl off in the distance, something about a mate. She was too far away to hear exactly what the owl had said but it still brought a smile to her face. Even after a few years she still was overjoyed that she could understand animals. After the first times she never grew tiered of it and didn't feel so alone back home.
"A lot on your mind?" An open ended question. There was no obligation to say what was going on but it left the option open. She figured it was the safest thing to say. It was that or pretend she didn't hear the sigh. That was not going to happen.

Fin's powers are earth manipulation, meaning he can control earth and its elements. He can also tell you where to find different preacious metals. He can generate earthquakes, landslides and sinkholes, which he did when his power first manifested. He doesn't know how to control it yet, his emotions do that for him, the earthquaked are triggered by his anger. Currently he is supressing it and it then quakes inside him breaking his bones. If he's not internalising it, he goes huge and brings down buildings, or simks them.The problem with Fin's power is that he is limited to how long he can use it, it varies depending on what he's doing with it but usually about five minutes is his limit, sometimes it's as little as thirty seconds before he passes out, he is the weak for the next hour and it takes five to be able to use his power again. With enough control he could isolate the tremors to a much smaller area and even stop major quakes but he's miles off that yet.

I'm a land mine." Finley had no intention of heading back to the dorms, curfew or no curfew. With his mind so active he'd never sleep and what would be the point of just being stuck in his dorm staring at the ceiling. At least here he sad something beautiful to look at, and he didn't mean his new found female companion. Finley was used to breaking curfew and many other rules with no real thought to any consequences, also the staff at this school weren't that strict and it inevitably meant that Finley got a way with never being in his dorm on time or in class on time. The sounds of the night were soothing to Finely and the very reason he'd come the the pier was to clear his head. He never really made any life altering decisions here and he probably never would but it was definitely a good place to shed negative thoughts and relax for a while. Usually he'd have his twin to ground him but without her this spot worked like a charm and he often felt marginally better the next day. Finley looked at her when she asked the question, this girl was smart. Smart enough not to go right in there and expect Finley to share his life story but smart enough to at least try and get him to share his thoughts. Finley smiled at her a little, "Its pretty busy in there." Fin said tapping his index finger on his forehead, to indicate his mind. "What about you? What is a pretty girl like you doing out here all alone?" he wasn't trying to pry but since she'd been nice enough to at least try and have a conversation Finley figured he would too after all there was no point in being rude. Chuckling at his answer she continued to look out over the lake wondering how to answer his question. Sure she was out here alone but she really wasn't. Ever since she gained her abilities she stopped feeling alone. Her pets the animals that lived near the house, all of them were her first real family. Sure it didn't make up for human interaction but at least she wasn't alone anymore. However there were days like this one where she wanted to be left to her own thoughts and just relax. She was used to no one being around and sometimes she needed that.
"Sometimes it is nice to enjoy the scenery in solitude. Beside it opens up possibilities for chance encounters like this" Raven looked over to Finley. What was his reason? She figured he wasn't up to saying anything because of his previous answer. She wasn't going to pry. She would never tell a stranger about her personal problems so why should she expect a stranger to share theirs.
"Summer skies are a lovely sight but there is something special about the night sky in the cooler months. Maybe it is the crisp air" Raven's silk voice was soft and she admired the stars. She loved the winter sky, it just seemed brighter. Or maybe it was just the whole bundling up warm under the stars with a hot drink that made it seem special. Watching by yourself or with others it was more of an event than stargazing in the summer months. At least for Raven it was.

It was the truth thought, while the boathouse was peaceful his mind was louder than ever with so many thoughts bouncing around he didn't know what to do with them. He'd planned to come out here and organise his thoughts but it hadn't really helped. "Sometimes people get too much." Fin said adding to her comment about enjoying the scenery in solitude. Some people couldn't help that they talked to much, they simply had to be talking to be happy and usually it didn't bother Finley, while they weren't expecting him to talk back it was fine but sometimes you needed a break from people. Especially in a bustling place like Ashford. When you spent a bit more than year alone with just your thoughts it did get a little overwhelming. Finley agreed with her completely about the winter sky's, he did find himself out here more often in the winter than any other time of year. "It's definitely not as humid which makes it fresher." Finley said. Once the warm summer days moved on and made way for winter the air cooled off and with the cooler weather everything felt a little more fresh than it did when the hot sun created an uncomfortable humidity. Everyone had their own feelings towards the school. For some it really was a reform school that made sure they stayed out of trouble. For others it was a sanctuary where they could develop their abilities without worrying they are going to hurt someone or someone using them. There were people like her who loved the school and the town because it was the only place she ever felt like she belonged. Whatever the reasons people had at least this place was safe.
No one in her own family knew about her abilities. She never did tell anyone, not that they would believe her. She did control a couple squirrels to attack her younger siblings but no one could pin that on her. She was alone most of the time so talking to animals never raised any alarms. "I quite love this school and quaint little town. At first it was a bit overwhelming but being surrounded by people with abilities just like you and no one making fun of it or judging you because your a freak is nice. Just the feeling of belonging somewhere makes it all the more special" She figured he was new and thought she should give her opinions of the school. She really did love the place.

I'm a land mine." While Fin wasn't particularly fond of the school nor would he consider it a home, he knew it was safe. He knew he needed the training the school would offer, he couldn't risk going it alone and toppling a building on someone and until he was certain he could control this power of his then he'd stick it out. He supposed he needed the reforming aspect of the school too since he'd done some pretty criminal things after running away from his foster parents but the school wouldn't know that because he'd never been caught. His foster parents didn't know about him possessing these powers since he was alone when they'd manifested. He was definitely glad that it had happened that way, he was sure they'd have kicked him out anyway if they found out he had these powers after all who wants a freak for a foster son. Finley listened to the girl speak about the school, she definitely seemed to love it here in this small town and at the school. "You certainly seem to like it. I've not been here long enough to say." Fin said in reply, he hadn't been at Ashford long enough to give an honest opinion. Currently he didn't really want to be here, he'd much rather have been out there trying to find answers to the many questions he had but the staff at the school were keeping close tabs on him with his history of running away. It took people time to gain an opinion of a place usually. There were some who either hated it or loved it when they first arrived. For Raven it took some time. She thought it was going to be just like home. But after just the first class she realized it was very different. It just got better from there. Sure there were ups and downs but she felt apart of something and it was a great feeling. "Yeah, it took time though to get used to it all. I was homed schooled my whole life before coming here so it was a big change. It was worth it in the end. Maybe it will be worth it to you" It was just some encouraging words.
Raven picked up her bag and looked at Finely. "It is getting a bit chilly so I am going to head back to Page Hall. If you would like company you are free to join me" She offered. She didn't need the company herself but it was nice sometimes. She figured she would offer. She didn't know which dorms he was in so she couldn't really offer any assistance. She just really didn't like being out too late and it was getting cooler than expected. She also had been still too long she needed to move about some and walking back to the dorms seemed like a good idea.
