I'm a land mine." Finley was one of those people who hated the place when he first arrived. It was more because of his confusion of waking up in a strange place with a broken arm and no memory of how he'd got there. He remembered the next day that he'd brought a building down on himself. He'd never felt at home anywhere without Dani, its the reason that he had ran away from the best foster parents they'd had. "Homeschooled that's cool." Finley said, he was never homeschooled but it was used an excuse when one particular foster parent wouldn't let the twins go to school because the bruises they had would raise suspicions. "I actually went to school, although I wasn't attending when they brought me here."Finley stood up and gave Raven a smile. "Yeah I'm headed that way anyway." Finley said, he knew how to get back to his dorm and didn't really need the company but it was really dark now and he couldn't really let a lovely girl walk back alone could he. He'd also started to feel the cold and walking back to his own dorm was definitely worth considering now, he might end up leaving his dorm again though. "I guess it can be cool depending on how you look at it" Raven hated being home schooled because of what it was like at home but she wasn't about to say anything to Finley about it. She just met him and hadn't even told her closet friend about the whole thing. She still wasn't ready to tell people about how she was raised because it still cause her alight anxiety. She didn't like people knowing about that, it was bad enough that one of her teachers knew about the anxiety but at least she figured he wasn't going to say anything and might even believe it had to do with the lessons.
She didn't want to say anything about him not being in school, everyone had their reasons for leaving or running away from it all. She gave him a warm smile and a nod when he said he would join her. She walked for a little, just listening to the sounds of the night before saying anything. "So what ability do you have? You don't have to answer if you don't want to" She knew not everyone, especially new people didn't like talking about their abilities. It was still new and some even feared it. Raven personally loved hers and had no trouble expressing that.

I'm a land mine." Finley nodded, he supposed in some cases Homeschooling wasn't all that great. He hadn't particularly enjoyed school but it was the only normal part of his life, because growing up in foster care wasn't something every person did but most people went to school at least for a while. "It could also be pretty lame and a little lonely." Fin reasoned. If he had been Homeschooled he'd probably have hated it in the end. He did all sorts of stupid stuff on school and it gave him a break from the bad foster homes. He wouldn't like to think how hard it would be to be Homeschooled in any of the Foster homes he and his twin ended up in. Finley was glad she wasn't going to push for more information some eager people would and that rubbed Fin up the wrong way. He caught her smile and somehow it made him feel like he could trust her just that little bit more. Her question about his power didn't surprise him, it was inevitable that it was going to be asked. "Geokinesis. You?" Finley said. He didn't love his power but only because of how powerful it was and the fact that he didn't have the necessary control over it to prevent him from injuring himself or other with it. Lonely was the right word to describe being home schooled. Sure she went to fancy events and wasn't totally socially awkward and the animals helped when she could understand them. However, it was a huge transition coming to Ashford. She made it work and now she was in her third year and it was nice being surround by all the different people and friends. Even the teachers were cool. Raven clasped her hands behind her back as she walked. Her face had a pleasant smile as she listened to Finley.
"Geokinesis, controlling earth right?" She had heard the term before but wasn't quite sure but since part of the word was geo which usually refereed to geology she figured it had to do with earth, well rocks. "Animal Manipulation is the proper term. Basically I can talk to animals. I can also control them to a degree but I don't like doing that" Raven replied. There was no ability more perfect for the girl. Her pets were always her closest companions and the moment she needed friends the most was when she gained the ability. The only part was controlling them wasn't fun but sometimes it was necessary. She also figured it made her power useful to others. You never know when you need to control some rabid animal right?

I'm a land mine." Finley liked the pleasant smile the girl wore, it just made him feel like she was a trustworthy person who couldn't hurt a fly. He wished there where people like that in the world but honestly he stopped believing that people like that existed a long time ago. He did feel a little bad for her though, if Homeschooling had been lonely because that was worst thing ever. He'd always had Dani up until her powers manifested and when he'd run away from home those were the hardest two years of his life. "Yeah basically." Finley said in reply to her question about Geokinesis, "Although at the moment I can't consider it controlling." Finley noted, he wasn't controlling his power, rather his emotions were and they usually triggered quakes and tremors of various magnitude. "Animal manipulation that's interesting." Fin said. He looked at the girl again, and he could definitely see her having that sort of power, even though he barely knew her it just fitted her. When she'd mentioned talking to animals Finley thought back to earlier and how he'd thought she'd been outside alone. "So you weren't on the pier alone then. You had the animals with you." he said as if it was a major revelation, it was to him anyway. "Did you know the earth sings?" Finley asked. It might've seemed odd but it was true, with all the movement of the tectonic plates and the mantle moving around underneath it the earth sort of rings and Finley with his power can hear it. That is what Ashford was for. Learning control. That way people wouldn't be afraid of hurting others or themselves for that matter. Having control of her ability was something Raven was very proud of. Sure talking to animals wasn't hard to control but she had a very good control and knew her limits for controlling animals. She might not like the concept of controlling another creature but she knew what she was doing. Raven grinned when he realized that she had all the animals around her keeping her company. Most just thought the power was cool but she hadn't seen anyone react the way he did when he made the connection.
Sing? Sure she knew that animals could sense things with the earth that humans usually couldn't. "That's amazing. You can hear the earth!" Raven exclaimed with pure wonderment. She thought it was quite amazing that anyone could hear the earth Sing. She had heard many different animals sing, wale song was quite beautiful. She wondered if it was something like that. Understanding something by a feeling and not words. "I think that is remarkable. To hear the earth sing, I can only imagine how cool that would be" She looked over to Finley wanting to hear more.

Finley knew that Ashford was there to help him control his power but currently he wasn't in the mood to listen to the staff or Trainers, he didn't like needing help, he wanted to deal with everything alone and that includes figuring out how to control his stupid power. He didn't need anyone else to help him either, he'd managed by himself for two years. Finley knew that he had the capability to hurt someone and if he didn't learn some control soon he would. Finley caught her smile, she did have a lovely smile and he was pretty sure he'd be happy just to let her keep smiling. "It must be amazing to never be truly alone." Fin said to her. That would've definitely be a cool power to have. Finley flashed her a smile, he'd never known people get that enthusiastic about hearing that the earth sings. "Well its more like a ringing of a bell. The tectonic plates underneath us are moving and that causes vibrations which I can hear, it sounds like the earth is singing." Finley said, of course it was probably nothing to what his evening companion must've heard. Finley smiled again at the interest. "I mean there are loads of tiny earthquakes all the time that you can't feel." Fin said motioning to her, "I can feel them and the vibrations caused I hear them. He was right. It was nice to never be alone. She cherished that now more than ever. She had been alone for so long then was suddenly never alone. It was a change but one that she was more than happy to adjust to. It didn't completely make up for human connections but it did keep her anxiety and depression at bay. She still was hesitant to open up to most humans still. Animals were one thing and her snake knew everything about her and how she felt without her saying anything. But because of her family she still has issues getting too close to people. She had made friends so that was step one. She knew it was going to take some time to be able to full open up to her friends, but at least she knew they were there for her when she needed them.
She listened closely to his description and believed it was quite a remarkable ability. "That is really fascinating. I mean animals can sense when earthquakes are going to happen or other natural disasters, but I have never met anyone or any creature that actually can fully listen to the earth. It is really cool" She noticed him smile and was glad the conversation made him at least a little happy. "You should smile more, it looks good on you" She was half teasing and half serious. It was one thing she really liked to see, other people happy. It felt good to know that you could make someone smile even with something so small.

I'm a land mine." Finley didn't feel lonely himself despite the fact that very often he pushed people away. So on the off chance he felt lonely he had no one else to blame but himself and he knew it. He didn't make friends east either since he wasn't very forthcoming or chatty. Fin found it hard to make idle conversation with strangers, hos twin and the one or two friends he might make however would see a different side of Fin, the carefree, witty side of Fin. His friendly and playful side. "It's not that cool, I mean if I could stop the earthquakes that would be cool." Fin said rubbing the back of his neck, he had never seen someone so enthusiastic about his power and he had to admit he was flattered. He didn't think that much of his power, to him with his current lack of control it was just a hindrance. This time Finley full on blushed, she probably wouldn't see it in the dark though. The girl was right though he should smile more, he hadn't been smiling that much recently and now that he thought about it Raven was the first person to make him smile in a long time. "Thanks." Finley said now unable to keep the smile off his face. It wasn't long before the Academy came into view again, they'd have to be quiet or get caught being out after curfew. Raven shrugged her shoulder. "Well for what it's worth, I think you power is quite special. It is not every day you meet someone who can understand the earth" Raven responded. She didn't like it when people felt bad about their powers. Just having an ability was cool no matter what it was. Then again her ability saved her in a sense so she had a special love for having powers. Having powers might set people apart but from her point of view, it was the powers that brought her closer with other people. It really was all situation based.
Raven only nodded at his thanks. She looked at the school, her home. It had a sort of mysterious look in the dark. But at the same time it felt welcoming. She walked quietly for a bit as to not draw any unwanted attention. She figured if they were caught she could talk their way out of it. If it was one talent she had it was talking. Not like talking constantly but having great conversational skills. She had a lot of practice and always had to be proper back at home to not embarrass the family. They were almost to Page hall and she figured there was no worries about being caught. "Well you are off to a good start here. You have one more friend. If you every need anything feel free to ask" She turned so she was facing the boy. She stretched out her hand to offer a shake as if to officiate their friendship.

I'm a land mine." He'd never heard anyone say his power was special but he liked it and it made him feel like he should value it. "Understanding the animals that move on the earth is pretty special too." Fin returned. He'd always enjoyed the outdoors and all the animals that came with it. His ability hadn't done anything but cause trouble so far but it felt good to hear someone tell him that it was special. "I'm still working on understanding it though. " Fin said in reference to the Earth. Fin also walked quietly, he didn't want to be caught more than likely someone would overreact due to his history of running away. He was however amazing at coning people so he was pretty sure he could spin a believable story about why he was out after curfew and then they'd be fine. Once they were closer to Page Hall he wasn't as concerned about being caught. He smiled at the girl again when she said he already had one friend, Fin shook her hand in return. "Same to you and if you ever want some company other than the beasties then I'm usually free." Fin said. He never offered to hang out with anyone before and he wondered what on earth this girl had done to him. "You know we should go camping." He said as he held the door to Page Hall open for Raven. CONTROLLING IS A BIT DIFFERENT. IT ISN'T A SPOKEN COMMAND IT IS MORE OF A MENTAL ONE. IT TAKES TOTAL CONCENTRATION AND SHE CAN'T CONTROL AN ANIMAL FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR, NOT THAT SHE WANTS TO. ANY LONGER AND IT CAUSES MASSIVE HEADACHES, NOSE BLEEDS AND IN SOME CASES SHE WILL PASS OUT BUT THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN TILL THE TWO HOUR MARK. THE SIMPLER THE COMMAND THE EASIER IT IS TO CONTROL THE ANIMALS. RAVEN PREFERS TO JUST ASK THE ANIMAL IF THEY ARE WILLING TO DO SOMETHING RATHER THAN CONTROL THEM. IF HER CONCENTRATION IS BROKEN SHE LOOSES CONTROL.

Somebody shine a light i'm frozen by the fear in me
She blushed slightly when he mentioned her ability also being special. She knew he was being polite and returning a complement but for her it really was a special ability and it was still nice to hear someone else say it. She was glad that she went to the dock that afternoon. She got to meet someone new who seemed like a really cool and nice guy. Sure she didn't know his background or really who he was but from what she saw he was a decent person. And to top it off she had another person to call a friend.
"Thanks! I'll make sure to take you up on that offer" She did enjoy hanging out with people. She looked at the building and nodded her head as Finley held the door open for her. Camping? "That's a great idea! We should, there are some really nice camping grounds around here because of Yellowstone" It sounded like a wonderful idea. And it really didn't matter what time of year they went, though it would be nicer to go before it got really cold at night. A weekend trip did sound like fun. It was something she could add to that silly bucket list Ralph challenged her to make.

I'm a land mine." Finley didn't see her blush, it was too dark but he was most definitely not just being polite. He was after all Finley Rockefellar, he didn't do polite. He genuinely thought her power was not only awesome but special or maybe it was the way she loved it that made it special. It didn't matter, Finley was glad he had met the girl and although he wasn't about to share his life story with her she'd cheered him up considerably. Finley was happy that she'd take him up on his offer even if he ended up being a silent companion, it was better than no companion after all. "We should definitely go before it gets to cold to actually enjoy it." Finley said, he didn't mind when they went either skipping school wasn't a big thing for Fin but he imagined it would be for Raven. "Before October rolls in for sure." Finley added. Raven knew that it would be better to go camping before it became too cold and October was approaching quickly. She thought for a moment and the more she thought about it the more excited she got about the idea. She had camped before but never with anyone, never a friend. "How about two weekends from now? That would give enough time to figure out the details" Raven suggested. Two weeks should be good and that way they wouldn't have to worry about it being too cold. She also wasn't one for skipping school. She had never skipped school since she came here and wasn't going to start now.
She walked into the lounge of Page hall wondering if she should call it a night. She was getting tiered but her mind was racing with the camping idea. She figured it would be better to deal with all of that withing the next week or so. "Should probably call it a night. It was wonderful meeting you Finely, and looking forward to the camping trip" Raven stated warmly.

"Two weekends from now sounds perfect. " Fin said. Two weeks meant it wouldn't be too cold but he could get everything sorted out. He might even head out a fellow day early just so he could set everything up, Finley loved camping even alone. Once Finley was in the Page Hall lounge he wasn't sure he was ready to call it a night but he wasn't about to stop his new friend from doing so. "It was a pleasure meeting you too Raven and the camping trip is going to be awesome."Finley said with a gentle smile to the girl. She was the first person he'd spoken more than two words to.
