BEYOND THE LOOKING GLASS
LIKES | Tattoos, drinking, parties, her fake ID, being in control of things, flirting with people in general, her power (which is completely bad ass), looking amazing and getting told that she looks amazing, vodka mostly, eating, movies, friends, the summer, beaches, sunshine, bon fires, acting, theater class, being the center of attention |
DISLIKES | being told what to do, small spaces, thinking about her mother or family, being turned down for anything, cold weather, ice at all, rainy days, soda pop without liquor in it, being hungry, looking 'frumpy', fearing that she might be useless, not having a job, darkness |
BEST SUBJECT | drama class |
WORST SUBJECT | history |
STRENGTHS | control over her power, very persuasive and manipulative, confident in herself (or just doesn't care what other people think), high alcohol tolerance, acting |
WEAKNESSES | being completely herself with people, doing what she is told, not respecting people pretty much ever, doesn't know where the 'line' is in certain situations, water or ice, quick temper |
HOBBIES | watching romantic movies and laughing at how stupid they are, playing with fire, getting drunk |
PET PEEVES | people complaining about how much they hate their family, people telling her she shouldn't drink so much like they know what's what |
PERSONALITY | Raelynn is a trainwreck. She never got proper social training as a child, and when she finally entered society she made friends with a party-girl who must have had a death wish. Raelynn mouths off to her teachers and elders constantly and has a hard time trusting people, let alone respecting them. She doesn’t care what people think of her and can be mean to humans. Raelynn does love animals and, if you ever were to see her taking care of one you would just think she was the best person ever. She thinks animals are unable to betray humans and that they can share an unconditional love with each other. Raelynn is kind of a flirt. She doesn’t sleep around all the time, but she wouldn’t complain if someone tried to make an argument that she was a slut. She flirts with anyone and thinks it is fun to get people to like her and leave them behind. Mostly it just makes her feel like she is in control, which she didn’t have for most of her life. |

SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW
HISTORY | Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is incorrectly thought to be the ‘neat freak’s disorder’, but that isn’t always the case. People joke about being OCD and even self-diagnose that they have it when they just like things to be clean. People even think it is a good thing to have, because your house is always sparkling and wonderful. But OCD isn’t just about being clean. In fact, in the case of Teresa Rae Davenport-Ashland, cleanliness didn’t have anything to do with it. Teresa was obsessed with individuality. She hated pairs or matches of anything. So when she learned that she was pregnant with identical twins, her OCD went on overload. The girls were born on a hot July day in Wyoming and they were immediately loved by their father, Jamison. He was so excited to have two little girls to raise and, in his mind’s eye, everything was perfect. But there was a darkness looming around the corner that no one could predict. Jamison suddenly died very mysteriously that August. The police questioned Teresa, and even suspected her, but no proof was ever provided and she was released to live her life. In order to keep the duplicate girls apart and satisfy her OCD compulsions, she placed the younger girl, the “copy”, in the basement, where she was left with a small TV that didn’t have sound on it and a bunch of toys. At first, there were many missteps in living in the basement. She wasn’t allowed to cry, which was an issue for Teresa until the girl was old enough to understand the concept of silence. She wasn’t allowed to be loud at all, in fact, or make any noise loud enough to be heard elsewhere in the house. This rule became especially important after Teresa remarried a man named Richard Ashland. From the basement, Raelynn could hear the family laughter and happiness around her. Although she loved the idea of having a sister to play with, she quickly resented the entire situation. Why did she always have to be stuck in the basement? One night, when she was only seven years old, Raelynn fell asleep and dreamed of a tiny spark coming off of her TV set. The wire sparked and sparked, flinging itself around form the kinetic energy. And then suddenly, the rug caught fire. It went up in flames and soon overtook the entire house. It wasn’t until the next morning, when Teresa was sifting through the wreckage of her home, that Raelynn realized it hadn’t been a dream. Mr. Ashland was dead and Teresa said that she was going to take Raelynn on a little trip. The beach in Los Angeles was amazing. It was so beautiful, no amount of imagination could have produced this scene. On the beach, in the south of the city, there is a large shopping mall, and for the first time Teresa said she would buy Raelynn some clothes of her own as a reward for being such a good girl. While Raelynn was in the dressing room, putting on a new outfit that felt scratchy and was covered in sequins, Teresa left her. At the young age of seven, Raelynn was thrust into the LA Foster System where she stayed until she aged out eleven years later. The foster system had a bitter sweet effect on the young, isolated girl. She found that she really did enjoy being around people, and began to learn that family isn’t someone who locks you in a basement and feeds you once a day. Even though she bounced from home to home aimlessly, Raelynn found that being around the other foster kids was a comforting thing. School was not easy for the young SPB. Having never been taught anything beyond her TV screen, starting school was tough. She didn’t know how to read or write and barely knew any basic math. It took her years of special tutors to even get to the point where Cat in the Hat made sense to her. Because of this, she didn’t fall in with a good crowd. In middle school, she became friends with a young girl who had also been in the foster system until she was adopted. The girl was fun and alive, at least that is how it seemed to Raelynn. Her name was Olivia, and she opened Raelynn up to the world of drinking and drugs. By the time Raelynn was fifteen, she drank almost every weekend and had experimented with multiple types of abusive substances. That was when things got interesting. When she was 15 years old, Raelynn developed her Pyrokinesis. She found she was able to control and manipulate fire and started to carry a lighter with her wherever she went. If she got into a tight spot, she would use the power to scare the drug dealer/creeper away and then run with Olivia. Shortly after she started really getting the hang of her power, a man came to the foster home and told her about a school for people like her. The feeling that found Raelynn was severely bittersweet. She wanted very badly to go, but the idea of leaving Olivia behind tortured her. And when her foster parents told her there was no way she was going, because of tuition and all that, she was simultaneously disappointed and relieved. Raelynn finished high school in LA, and was finally on level with the rest of her grade. As a foster kid, she was able to get tons of financial aid to go to college and she chose to attend Ashford University. She is one her way there now. |
ALL THE SMALL THINGS
POWER | PYROKINESIS |
POWER DESCRIPTION | Raelynn has the ability to control and manipulate fire and heat. She is completely heat resistant. She can create fire, but it is easier, right now, for her to use fire that is already created to play with, hence the lighter. Raelynn is weak against cold weather, ice, and water which puts a damper on her power. She has to have sufficient oxygen to control fire and if, for some reason, she were suffocating, her power would instantly be harder to control. She can use a small flame and, from that, create more fire far more easily than create fire from nothing. Raelynn can use her power as much as she wants, at least she will be able to after practicing at Ashford. |
SPECIAL ITEMS | Raelynn carries a zippo with her at all times. |
