PERSONALITY | Overall, Asher is a tough to love and tougher to handle kinda guy. He hates his job and his life with a passion, not to mention the bitter family life he's had going on ever since he was a younger boy. Most days he would rather kill someone than look at them and the school has to keep him on a pretty tight leash to keep him out of trouble. When it comes to friends, he doesn't have many of them. He pushes people away and generally doesn't see the use in keeping up pretenses when he would rather be alone. The only ones he would really mess with are people who drink with him or who don't think that he's a crazy mess. Relationship wise, he's had a few. He can be charming when he wants to but in a rough and rugged kind of way. Asher doesn't like being held down by one person anymore and thinks that exclusive relationships are for idiots. Just ask his ex-wife. However, in the times that he most needs to be, he can be compassionate and protective of those that he sees fit. Most of his students will fall under this category, but the only way he'll show it will be to push them harder, almost to their breaking point. He knows that their lives are more cruel than usual and that tough love is the only way to help them. |

SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW
HISTORY | Asher James Kale was born to a wealthy business owner and his pretty young wife on Halloween night. At the time his grandparents joked that he was a demon child, but if they had only known...well, maybe they would've just left him at the hospital. Everything would have been better. As a young child he was given everything privilege could offer. Horses, toys, whatever suited his fancy at the time. Asher was to inherit a multi-million dollar estate some day, so he was also subjected to a rigorous routine of learning and grooming as young as the age of four. He had to be the perfect heir for his father's dynasty, after all. Samuel expected Asher to be charming and witty during the parties, but ruthless in the boardroom. That mentality was instilled in to him the instant he could understand it. When his siblings were born a few years after himself, Asher was told to treasure them as pawns in the business game. Brothers to educate as right hand men, a sister to marry off to the highest bidder. They all had a role and he was to hold the cards. Everything changed on the night of his thirteenth birthday. Dominic had convinced one of the servants to smuggle in some horror movies so that they could binge watch them while their parents attended a party. Asher's birthday celebrations had been the weekend before, so he didn't mind being left with his favorite sibling and some left over cake. He didn't know that Dom was scared of clowns or that fear could hurt someone until he saw his brother on the floor in a quivering heap. The elder Kale had attempted to sooth his brother by grabbing his arm and actually magnified his fear to an unbearable point. It would take several years of therapy and eventually an intervention from Principal Ashford to make Dominic completely right again. However, Ashford Academy didn't exist at this time. It wouldn't open for two more years and by then Asher was far beyond the Academy's help. When his father heard about the incident, Asher was immediately taken to the family priest to be spoken to who immediately decided the boy was possessed. It angered Asher, who turned the man's fear of snakes against him unknowingly before the end of the visit. Samuel locked his son in his bedroom until his even more conservative grandparents could retrieve him to live with them in New England. His grandfather ran a fishing boat as a hobby rather than a lifestyle and it was here that he found a love for sailing and started to find control over his powers. Asher was a high school drop out before long, but his family didn't mind as long as he kept his condition to himself and stayed away from his more impressionable siblings. Everything was fine again until the night that he used his powers against the ship captain and caused him to have a heart attack after a small fight. The police didn't, and couldn't, charge him with anything, but his grandparents were convinced that his demon was back. At the age of sixteen, Asher was locked in the house and not allowed to leave. Paid guards were hired and his grandparents moved away, claiming that he was too dangerous to be around. A myriad of priests were brought in to quietly treat the heir of the Kale dynasty of his strange affliction, but nothing ever worked. Things remained this way until he was eighteen years old. It had never crossed anyone else's mind that the same thing could happen to one of his siblings, not until the day that David manifested his powers. They were much less violent and even helpful in the business as he could see small glimpses of the future. Eventually he trained himself to see nothing but the stock market and the family business boomed. Sure, their father had freaked out at first, but principal Ashford had been able to intervene this time and explain the truth. It was then that everyone realized what they had done to their eldest child. Too bad that it was too late. By then the previously sweet, caring, and determined young man had been ripped to shreds by his parents and their insane accusations. He honestly believed that he was a creature of darkness who deserved to be feared and hated. The instant he was allowed out of his grandfather's mansion, he left and never went back. A private investigator found him in a one bedroom apartment outside Vegas when he was twenty three to tell him that his father had passed and left him a small sum. Very small in comparison to what he had been worth when Asher left. For a little while, Asher found himself almost feeling better, like he could actually be a decent person again. He met a beautiful woman and made her his wife. They bought a small house in a quiet town and attempted to settle down. Unfortunately for him, no good thing is allowed to last. Asher and Samantha were married for two years before they divorced. Even though she was an SPB herself, she hated his power and the minimal control that he had over it. Sam was afraid that some day he would blow their cover and she would be thrown in jail or experimented on because he was too loose with it. A few weeks later she accepted a position as a history teacher at Ashford Academy. Asher wouldn't see her again until he hired on there himself. Most of the time after that was spent in a bitter blur. Asher gambled away most of his money, all of it if Dom hadn't started sending checks regularly whenever he figured out that their father had only given him a few hundred thousand when the estate was currently worth billions. As some point he lost his hand in a fight with a telumkinetic at an SPB run bar in Texas. The doctors tried, but they couldn't reattach it. David bought him a hook as a gag gift and he has worn it ever since. When he finally recovered from his drinking binge, Asher had been discovered by principal Ashford. One of the other professors was sent to offer him a position amongst the training staff because of his power. Even though he wasn't a master of it himself, the school felt like the reactions his power could potentially cause would be a helpful experience. Now that he is using it daily, he has control over the aspects of his power he is actually content with using and can do it at will. Asher spends most of his time now terrorizing the students and avoiding his ex-wife. He lives at the dorms because he's too lazy to find an apartment. Eventually he intends to leave and take up his brother on that offer to rejoin his family, but he's still too bitter to consider that at the moment. At least here he gets to be the monster everyone says he is and no one can tell him it's not right. |
ALL THE SMALL THINGS
POWER | PHOBIKINESIS |
POWER DESCRIPTION | Because Asher did not receive any training during the formative years of using his powers, they some times tend to spiral out of control. In general, this means making others around him afraid when he is angry or upset himself. Currently he has basic control at most times and exercises it wisely. Being able to take someone's greatest fears and turning it against them is something that he rarely enjoys. Most of the time he tries not to use his powers on full blast, but they can be temporarily incapacitating when he chooses to make someone feel fear. He can also take someone's fear away, but to do so he has to take it on himself. Eventually he will likely be able to take away someone's fear without making it his own, but until then he literally will absorb it. However, fear does not tend to work with him the way it does others. It will make him become more aggressive and won't be able to stop until he works off the excess energy that he gets from being hyped up. After he starts to calm down, Asher will crash quickly. Depending on how much he takes in and how he chooses to let it go (training, physically fighting, using his power, etc), the ensuing power exhaustion can last for days. Other times it only lasts for a few hours and then he's good to go again. |
SPECIAL ITEMS | Well, I guess the hook falls under here. He lost his hand after a nasty fight with a telumkinetic a few months before Ashford hired him on. Most days he uses a hook as a replacement, but on rare occasions he has a prosthetic hand that he'll wear instead. He hates it though, so don't expect to see him with it often. |
