Octavia has the power to induce or repress feelings of ecstasy in others. The most raw form of her power is basically the air around her. People that come within about ten to twenty feet of her are subject to her powerful Ecstasy influence. Basically this means they will have heightened senses and feelings of strangely immense pleasure when they are around her.
Some side effects of Octavia's power are pretty standard. It is not uncommon for people who are around her for an extended period of time to pass out or black out. Sometimes, Octavia can't control the power and it kind of infects people when she doesn't want it to. It also means that she is high for about 60% of her waking hours which can really cut in to things like school and life in general.
Another facet of her power is the ability to take away, or repress the ecstasy. She can actually make people feel really down and depressed if she isn't careful and this bit of power is generally seeded in her own feelings. When Tavie is feeling down or upset it can set in and make everyone around her miserable.

[attr="class","wbascr"] Sitting in a scratchy blue chair next to Alex's hospital bed, Octavia reflected on the events that led her to the ER in Cody, Wyoming. She was sitting with Alex, and honestly she isn't quite sure what she was doing. After all, they were high as kites and she remembers texting Melanie, and something about the hallway in her dorm. The next few moments seem exceedingly clear as she looks at Alex and asks him, "Do you trust that what I do is totally for the best?" And then she shot him with a hefty dose of her power and gave him what SHE would refer to as the 'ultimate love tap'. She winced visibly as he tumbled down the stairs and joined him at the bottom long enough to give him another dose of ecstasy, hoping it would help with the pain and make them heliflight his to a hospital, "Trust me, dude. No pain, no gain." When they were finally loaded into the helicopter, Octavia picked up her phone and rang Melanie, putting on her best panicked voice and screaming about drugs and falling down the stairs and making sure to throw in their destination so she would know where to go. If Tavie knew Melanie like she THOUGHT she did, the girl would call Braxton for a ride out of habit. Here's hoping.
Now they were in the hospital and Alex had a clunky cast wrapped around his left arm. She winced again, poking him with her finger to give him a bit of pain reduction now that the doctors were done testing his drug intake level for the evening, "Sorry, Alex..." She bit her lip, hoping he would forgive her harebrained scheming. Alex's portals tend to look more like a vortex. They can be violent and even a little destructive if he doesn't have full control of it. To travel, all he has to do is think of a destination and then focus on a solid object in front of him. At that point, the vortex opens on his end. Usually he prefers to use a wall or the sidewalk because something like glass or grass can be too fragile or unstable.
As far as carrying an object or taking someone with him, Alex has no issues as long as they grab on to him fast enough. Anything much bigger than him that can't move itself through the portal can get awkward and is in danger of getting cut off. people don't have this problem as much because they can stoop or jump, but it is a vague possibility.
The downfalls of Alex's power aren't usually major, but they can have some serious issues. For example, if he tries to use an unstable surface, he can lose the portal too early or have problems on reentering. Unstable surfaces mean unstable landings that can be painful because of excessive force or falling upside down or sideways. Also, he must go through the portal once it is opened no matter what. If he doesn't then the portal will pull him through whether he is ready or not.
Alex can only create two portals a day before he becomes too tired to make another. In an emergency he might be able to make a third but he would pass out immediately when he was done.

 Alex glared at Octavia the best that he could before the ecstasy fully settled in to his system. Then he laughed, because why not? They were in a hospital, he was on painkillers and he was higher than any kite he'd ever seen...but he'd been pushed down a flight of stairs by his best person and he didn't know why. Whaddya do that for, brat? He accused, a big smile on his face as he tried to maintain at least a little bit of his annoyance. It's like...what...then stairs. Did I need a check up or somethin? |

She said in a whimsical and floaty voice that made a passing nurse near the door and poke her head in. When Octavia waved her off with a smile, the nurse reluctantly left, no doubt suspecting some sort of dating violence was involved with Alex's accident, "Trust me..." She stood up and snuggled into the hospital bed with Alex, "It's for the greater good." Alex's face scrunched up as he tried to think about what Tavie meant. Wait...my sister and your brother...dude. I keep forgetting they aren't like BFFs anymore. Before he could think about it too much, Tavie was curled up beside him and it was harder to focus on the words coming out of his own mouth. Oh well. Whatevs. As long as Brax doesn't like...i dunno. Am I gonna get thrown down the stairs again? Cuz I might have to do the portals thing. Why hadn't he thought of that last time? Oh wait...stupid bracelet.
