Melanie has the ability to mentally communicate with people. She has a normal range of around ten feet unless she is familiar with the mind she is communicating with. If she has communicated with someone before multiple times, she can feel their mental presence for up to 100 yards, but the connection tends to be weak. Her range only slightly increases when she is panicked and is attempting to find a specific person.
Communicating with a stranger is harder for Melanie because she currently struggles with finding the connection and holding on to it. With training, she might be able to hold a conversation with up to four people at the same time, but they would not be able to hear eachother's thoughts, only hers.

[attr="class","wbascr"] A drug overdose was something Melanie had never feared. Octavia's powers didn't have negative side effects like real ecstasy did and that was all Alex had been exposed to as far as she knew. This morning had proved her wrong though.
The sirens on campus should've alerted her that something was wrong, but it wasn't until Dr. Kotney at the Calloway clinic had called to tell her Alex was en route to Cody in a mediflight helicopter. Octavia had found him unresponsive in his dorm room earlier that morning and he'd apparently overdosed on real ecstasy, leaving him in critical condition. Now she had to find a way to make the hours long drive, which at the moment meant only one person could help her.
Braxton.
Most people would've called their fiancee, but it was likely that Brax was on his way to pick up Octavia anyways. And besides that, she trusted Brax more on his worst day than Rich on his best. At least she knew him. Which was why she was running down the stairs to meet him in the parking lot to get this road trip started. What could go wrong? There are many different kinds of telumkinesis, apparently. Braxton's particular brand is the more powerful of them, allowing him to conjure anything to be used as a weapon. There are a few snags in this awesome power, the most annoying of which being the five foot rule. Anything he conjures can't leave a five foot radius from him.
Drops his sword? Poof, gone.
Bow and arrow? Only if you want to hit them with it.
Stapler? Sure why not, but don't expect those staplers to be useful once you leave the papers on the desk.
Another flaw int he power is that he must conjure the item with the intent of using it as a weapon. Whether it be to hit a dummy, or attack a person, Braxton's power won't work if he just wants to conjure a ruler for giggles. He has to have the intention of smack someone or something with it. The way he gets around this is very Hulk like. He just decided that if he is always angry, he will always want to beat something up and then conjuring stuff is no big deal.

[attr="class","flip-container"] | [attr="class","flip-container"] [attr="class","flipper"] [attr="class","back"] It had been a weird day. First, he had gotten a number of text messages from Octavia, excited that the news had finally gotten out that Alex was back in town. She was narrating her getting ready to go to his dorm and, much to Braxton's dismay, she seemed way more excited about it than he had hoped. But at least if she kept texting him that meant she wasn't running away. He worried she would disappear again, especially when her text messages stopped coming. Things got even worse when his phone buzzed and Melanie's stupid face popped up on the screen. He looked at the big smile on her face and remembered the day he had snapped that picture of her. They had gone to New York City for some business meeting her dad wanted them to attend and the view from their hotel rooms excited Melanie or something. He couldn't really remember what it had all been about. But he did know that he had saved the picture despite all the anger and hatred he thought he felt for her. It wasn't five minute after he had hung up with Melanie that he was sliding into the driver's seat of his 2015 Blacked out Jeep Wrangler. The car dinged as the lime green lights that covered the radio and the dash board lit the surprising large, leather clad space. He pulled around the drive that lined the dorms and waited outside of Melanie's dorm for her to come down and join him. |

[attr="class","wbascr"] A black jeep that practically screamed Braxton pulled up to the dorm just as Melanie shrugged in to her jacket and walked out the door on the ground floor. A surge of panic washed over her when she reached for the door, but about what she wasn't quite sure. It took a few deep breaths before she actually slid in to the Jeep beside Braxton and buckled her seat belt silently. Almost out of reflex, she went to use her power instead of talking but thought against it. She wasn't in the mood to argue with Braxton and luckily she'd caught herself before actually doing it. Thanks for taking me. She stated, picking at the sleeve of her jacket and looking out the window instead of focusing on what was going on. [attr="class","flip-container"] | [attr="class","flip-container"] [attr="class","flipper"] [attr="class","back"] He could tell before she ever pulled open the door to his Jeep that she was stressed out about this whole situation. Honestly, he was confident that Alex would be fine. He was more worried they would take this opportunity away from the school to escape like they had before. But in moments like this, he just kept his eyes forward on the road and shook his head, thinking to himself where she might be able to hear, "Yeah, no problem." He knew that the thoughts were more calming form of communication and recently he had started to feel a little guilty about how shitty he had been to her, "It'll be fine, Mel." Even his voice in his thoughts was flat and bored sounding. |

[attr="class","wbascr"] He could've died. I mean, it was one thing when he was just hanging out with octavia and getting involved in that whole mess. She started, though her tone wasn't judging or even harsh in her thoughts about Octavia. If anything it upset her more. God, Tavie has to be a mess right now. Have you heard from her again? She'd give anything to switch places with Alex right now. He'd be able to get Braxton there immediately, but she just got to sit there and talk to him without the strain of actually moving her lips. [attr="class","flip-container"] | [attr="class","flip-container"] [attr="class","flipper"] [attr="class","back"] Pulling onto one of the many winding roads that snaked through Yellowstone, Braxton drove as fast as he could allow himself without fear of sliding off of the still icy roads and into the Lamar Valley far below them. Finally, he made it to the turn that gave him a straight shot to Cody, about two hours away. How was he going to fill all that blank space with words? Normally, he wouldn't mind the silence. Random people in random silent venues were actually something he treasured. But for some reason Melanie always made him feel off of his game. Giving her a sideways glace, he frowned and nodded, "Yeah, I get it. But it will be fine, Tav is there. She won't let anything happen to him." He was actually confident in that statement. |

[attr="class","wbascr"] Melanie nodded and tried to relax a little bit, but she couldn't help looking at Braxton briefly, somewhere between concern and amusement. When did he decide to suddenly start being nice to her again? Probably today, considering the circumstances. She wasn't even sure she'd seen him since the whole Rich incident after the engagement. Whatever, she wasn't going to over think it. For a moment, she could almost pretend that he was her best friend again. You're right. She's been taking care of him for a while. He'll be fine until we get there. As she finished talking, a slight shimmer of light caught her eye and she groaned inwardly about the engagement and what was going to happen now because of Alex. Braxton didn't fail to notice the glint of a passing street light off of her hand and was suddenly reminded of something that inexplicably bothered him. Frowning again, Braxton pulled to a slowed stop as a buffalo meandered across the road. The annoying inevitability of living in the nation's first national park was all the wildlife and the very real effect they had on your day. Since they had no choice but to stop, Braxton made a sideways at his passenger. There were no street lights on this side of the lake and it was extremely dark as the sun finally dipped behind the horizon. But even in the darkness Braxton saw that weird glow that always seemed to accompany Melanie wherever she went, "Nice ring." His voice was worse than flat as the first real words of the evening spilled out of his mouth. He couldn't help himself as he thought without realizing she'd probably hear 'Gaudy, ugly, stupid.'

Melanie couldn't help it when she burst out laughing despite the situation. Leave it to Braxton to say something like that whenever she'd been afraid to think it herself. It kind of is, isn't it? I mean I thought it was kinda sweet that he put some thought in to it, but given the situation I would've preferred something less...this. For the first time since Richard had placed it on her finger, Melanie removed the heavy piece of metal and left it in one of the cupholders in Braxton's car like she didn't care what could happen to it. We still haven't found a way to get the wedding called off without backlash, so you might want to consider breaking out that tux. Also, I've hired wedding crashers, feel free to aide them at any time. It wasn't quite a lie. She might or might not have bribed some of the other students to come liven up her black tie affair in the worst ways possible. It was going to be glorious.

He zoomed passed a parked police car that looked like it couldn't care less that he was going ten miles per hour over the speed limit for the Buffalo Bill Parkway. |

Melanie rolled her eyes as he took off, though she had to admit that getting pulled over didn't sound like fun right now. At least the cop didn't turn his lights on after they passed. Come on Brax, you know you want to watch that train wreck, or do we need to just make sure Tavie sends pictures? Despite the fact that Braxton wasn't necessarily driving recklessly, Melanie reached out to grab the door handle as they sped down the road. Not that I blame you. I tried for a justice of the peace ceremony, despite the scandal something like that would cause.

[attr="class","flip-container"] | [attr="class","flip-container"] [attr="class","flipper"] [attr="class","back"] Changing lanes, Braxton passed a silver Hyundai that was following the speed limit and retook his spot in the right lane, pressing the gas until his speedometer read 80 miles per hour before finally setting the cruise control and letting the Jeep basically run itself, "I'm sure if I cared enough to check it out, the news will have more than enough." He said bitterly, not sure why it was bugging him so much that this was all happening in the first place. Changing lanes to pass another car, Braxton briefly considered turning on the radio to try and get Melanie out of his head. He was starting to regret letting her in in the first place and wondering if she could tell he was feeling annoyed. Did her power work that way? Could she read feelings? Even if she couldn't she could totally tel he was thinking about how weird and annoyed he felt about everything and she could totally hear that. Shaking his head, h reached across the dash and poked the power button to the radio, blasting some Avenged Sevenfold through the car, his sub-woofers buzzing beneath the front seats. Even though the music was loud and was probably doing the trick now, it was too late. He had already had the thought and he could feel her in his head. |

A few interesting words floated through the connection between them, like braxton was thinking too hard and accidentally let it slip. Weird and annoyed huh? About what? People get married every day for things less than love. This isn't anything new. We just...no one ever thought mother and father would go that route. I'm assuming it was the Gaunt influence. Her conversation with Octavia briefly over took her thoughts, mostly the part about Tavie thinking they would eventually end up together. That wasn't going to happen now though. It just couldn't. But if its that bad...I mean its not like you are obligated to do anything until after the adoption goes through anyways. Then he would be her brother, as much as the thought made her sick.

[attr="class","flip-container"] | [attr="class","flip-container"] [attr="class","flipper"] [attr="class","back"] Glaring at her from his spot in the driver's seat, Braxton rolled his eyes, "God, just stop, Melanie." He basically shouted. As if his subconscious was trying to prove something, he immediately wondered why the only person that could push his buttons enough to make him lose his flat, blank personality was this girl. Even if it was anger, she was the only one who could really draw any sort of emotion out of him. He thought back to his conversation with Octavia. Whether the thought was spawned because Melanie's thought had spawned it or not didn't matter. Staring at the white line in the center of the road, Braxton slammed on the gas, hoping to get them to the hospital faster so he wouldn't have to deal with facing his subconscious. |

Melanie's knuckles turned white from her grasp on the door handle as the car accelerated, though she wasn't sure if it was out of fear or irritation. Why, because I said something you didn't like? She asked quickly, her free hand flying up to cover her mouth as it slipped out. Her prim and proper nature only generally fell around a few people, one of them being Braxton before things got weird, but now definitely wasn't the time to open that can of worms. Well, it felt more like pandora's box. Sorry...I shouldn't have...I'll be quiet now. She thought towards him, shifting so that she was staring out the window and away from the driver of the vehicle.
