Training her powers was never something that Issie had seriously thought about doing. After all, training was a kind of work, and if there was one thing the girl couldn't get along with it was work. She was more than happy to just continue messing about with light in her own time, but it wasn't entirely up to her. Despite her laziness and lack of enthusiasm where work was concerned, Issie couldn't quite shake her parents voices from her head. They'd stress the importance of hard work, asserting that no one ever got anything without putting work in. This wasn't true, of course, but it was how they motivated their kids. She couldn't deny that without their hard work she wouldn't be here right now, and even if she wasn't all that fond of it, she could at least put in some effort. And who knew, maybe something as annoying as training would be improved with the addition of superpowers.
She stood outside the training room, flicking through songs on her MP3 player. The device was rather clunky and dated, but it was able to store and play music, so it was just fine in her books. She was dressed in a dark pair of jeans and a white shirt with a picture of a cute little monster explaining the advantages of turning to the dark side, which came in the form of cookies. She finally settled on a song that took her fancy: an instrumental track featuring electric violins and guitars with a western theme. Tapping along with her foot, Issie slipped into one of her favourite pastimes of losing herself in music and ignoring the world around her.
