Since spring break was already on it's way in, most of the student body at Ashford were off the walls excited. Everywhere around her, people were planning road trips, or crazy parties. Val weaved through the majority of the students, careful not to bump into anyone at risk of hearing even more thrilling thoughts about the 'huge party at so and so's place tomorrow night!' Of course that party actually sounded fun, but considering the situation, it was totally off limits for Val. There was no way she would subject herself to that many people in such a small crowded place willingly without some way to completely numb her powers. Maybe alcohol would work. She'd never tried that before.

As soon as she navigated out of the mass of school buildings, Val sought out her normal path towards the lake and her favorite hang out spot; the boathouse. There was never anyone there during the winter,autumn and most of spring, months due to the utter coldness of the water so for the most part the building was unoccupied. Perfect for a telepathic who hated physical contact. She often preferred to be alone with her thoughts than with other people. Then again, always seeking out her own company got a little lonely at times. Humans are supposed to have human contact and blah blah blah, right? If not they go crazy, no big deal right?

Valentina passed by the door to the boathouse, instead veering off to meander down one of the piers that stuck out past the shore of the lake. Since spring was coming in full swing now, the unfrozen lake water was back to lapping at the wooden pier posts, a soothing rhythmic sound. The rest of the lake was almost dead silent. As she reached the end of the pier, Val dropped down to sit on the edge, dangling her feet off the side so that the heels of her boots swung back and forth inches above the surface of the water.

She snagged one of the rocks she'd picked up outside from one of the pocket of her jacket, and flicked her wrist, sending the stone skittering across the top of the water. It was time's like this that Val actually didn't mind living at Ashford, miles away from her sunny home in Florida. There was something so peaceful about the lake and the silence around her. It almost felt like time was paused here. Valentina sighed, leaned back so that she was laying flat on the wooden pier, and closed her eyes. A few minutes later she thought she heard footsteps behind her, but she ignored it. If someone was really there they would say something.

It was seriously way too cold to be out on the water. It was warmer than it had been, and the ground old had a bit of ice fringing the shoreline where the waves were systematically breaking it away, and any smart person would have quickly understood not to get themselves wet today, but when his uncle pulled into town early this morning with Taze's Jet Ski on a trailer, he couldn't help himself.

Now he was regretting his decision. Soaked from head to toe, Taze had just pulled into his new leased spot at the docks, right next to his pontoon which was nicely put away for the winter. Shivering, Taze locked up the Jet Ski and climbed off, stepping up on to the dock. He climbed up on to the pontoon for a moment, grabbing a towel and a spare hoodie he had shoved under one of the seats for cooler summer night on the lake. As he climbed off of the boat, he noticed someone sitting at the end of the pier looking contemplative.

Thinking to himself, Taze wondered if the girl would be annoyed by his interruption. Someone who was alone of a dock obviously was thinking about something. Would he bother her? Oh well, she was cute and worth the risk, "Kinda cold to be sittin' out by the water." His southern accent was distinctive in the cool air, "Not that I can really talk all the much." He laughed, motioned to his bathing suit and hoodie ensemble.

Apparently Valentina's instinct was right and there was actually another person at the boathouse. He'd pulled up on a jet ski but Valentina hadn't noticed his arrival until she picked up a southern accent speaking from behind her position at the end of the dock. Now, how Val had missed the noise of the jet ski pulling up was beyond her, so she was a little surprised to hear anyone else around. Instead of sitting up like anyone else would, Val shifted her head back so that she was looking at the newcomer upside down. 

"Oh um hey there. Wow you're hot...I mean wet...I mean...shit." Valentina could feel her cheeks slowing turning a bright shade of tomato red. Of course this would happen to her. Things were going just swimmingly today. Attempting to hide the embarrassing color painting her face, she quickly sat up so that she was facing away from the cute newcomer. Her feet still dangled off the dock end and she swung them back and forth nervously. This was pretty much the main reason why she avoided people. Awkward is as awkward does.

Too bad she didn't have the power of invisibility, she could totally just poof on outta here. Yet she couldn't just ignore the poor kid, so with a grimace to herself and a deep breath, she pulled her feet up off the edge and swung around to sit cross legged facing him. "Lets just start over," she offered a smile, "and I guess it's not too cold unless you're actually in the water." She dropped her hands into her lap and twisted her fingers together. That was okay right? Nothing weird this time. At least she couldn't hear his thoughts, that would turn things around even more.

Taze would be lying if this was the first time a girl had randomly exclaimed her thoughts on his appearance. After all, the power of Truth Inducement will do that to a person. Not that it really affected people much from a distance, but he knew they were more likely to tell the truth just from being around him. According to the teachers, people wouldn't be able to do anything BUT tell the truth if her were touching them directly.

Despite all that, he sent this girl a handsome grin and plopped down on the wooden pier across from her, "Why thank you." He said, genuinely flattered, "You're quite a looker yerself, if you don't mind me sayin' so." And he was being honest. She was really gorgeous.

Looking out across the water, a cool breeze off the surface made him shiver a little bit. Why on Earth did he think going out on the Jet Ski was a good idea? Oh, because it's awesome. Of course. Taze looked at the girl again, who had turned to face him so she was no longer looking at him upside down, "So what brings a gorgeous girl like you to a place like this?" He asked in a smooth voice, flirting with Valentina.
