Alex's portals tend to look more like a vortex. They can be violent and even a little destructive if he doesn't have full control of it. To travel, all he has to do is think of a destination and then focus on a solid object in front of him. At that point, the vortex opens on his end. Usually he prefers to use a wall or the sidewalk because something like glass or grass can be too fragile or unstable.
As far as carrying an object or taking someone with him, Alex has no issues as long as they grab on to him fast enough. Anything much bigger than him that can't move itself through the portal can get awkward and is in danger of getting cut off. people don't have this problem as much because they can stoop or jump, but it is a vague possibility.
The downfalls of Alex's power aren't usually major, but they can have some serious issues. For example, if he tries to use an unstable surface, he can lose the portal too early or have problems on reentering. Unstable surfaces mean unstable landings that can be painful because of excessive force or falling upside down or sideways. Also, he must go through the portal once it is opened no matter what. If he doesn't then the portal will pull him through whether he is ready or not.
Alex can only create two portals a day before he becomes too tired to make another. In an emergency he might be able to make a third but he would pass out immediately when he was done.

The name is Alex. The 'rents named me Damien, but if you call me that I might actually punch you in the face. I'm basically being held captive at this idiotic school because they took my powers away. What good is portal creation if you can't create portals? Whatever. Once I figure it out, OCTAVIA BELLE WYATT and I? We're gone. Friends I don't like people who are stuck up or rich. They remind me too much of my parents. I prefer those who walk on the wilder side these days. Just don't get weird with Octavia and we'll be fine. Got it?
In general, I'm a decent dude unless I'm dealing with the stuck up rich people in question. Sarcasm is my second language and if you don't understand that, you'll probably think I'm a horrible person. I don't really care about that though.
Enemies I have plenty of these. Drug dealers, pimps, strippers...pretty much anyone shady that Tavie and I ran in to on our adventures. Those who are too straight laced and uptight might as well put themselves right here. I don't have time for the stupidity of it.
Also, that idiot with the power negating tech...he's on the short list. Automatically.
Lovers
I have a good thing going with Tav, but it's not out of the realm of possibility for me to experiment with someone else. Just don't expect me to stick around for more than a few dates and remember that she comes first.

Well, I imagine these guys would run into each other at some point. Issie definitely isn't stuck up or rich, and she's fluent in sarcasm. She's pretty laid back, so they could get along pretty well. She might consider him a little melodramatic though depending on what was being discussed. Issie and Octavia have a plan set up to meet and likely become friends, so there's that. But yeah, likely friendly, assuming he can take Issie making light of most things.

Alex definitely is melodramatic, but only when he's bored or messing with someone. She'll definitely know when he's not being serious. I think they would be interesting friends as long as they aren't in a super dire situation, because when he finally does get serious then it'll be like flipping a switch. The dude has been on the streets for a while, you know?

sounds reasonable. I imagine things could get a little tense to say the least if something major does go down. Could be interesting to see at some point. For now though, yeah, just friends. Could goof off and break the rules some.

DAMIEN ALEXANDER THORN & @jas Squishy, rich Jasper doesn't stand much of a chance against a rough-edged fellow like Alex, but that's what would make it fun, no? Jas needs someone to break him out of his rich-kid bubble - and poking the sleeping bear that is Alex seems like just the way to do it.
