PERSONALITY	Alex could easily have been your every day, ordinary rich boy who spent more time counting coins than caring about other people, but somehow he turned out a little bit better than that. He would like to think that it was because of the foster children who came in to his home when he was younger. They grounded him more and made him feel humble. Not to mention, it was hard to be a douche bag whenever Octavia came around with her ecstasy powers. She was too cute and funny to let him be mean, like ever. Tavie introduced him to a lifestyle he would've found eventually, but at a younger age. He started going with her to sell her powers and because of that became pretty street smart even before they left. He understands that because of what she does she needs protected some times and there was no way he was going to tell her brother. Braxton would have killed him for letting her do it in the first place. After the escape from Thorn Manor, Alex become alternately much more care free and actually serious. He's personally charged himself with Octavia's safety and happiness while they are away. While he misses his sister, he refuses to go back to his parents and to high society. He might actually suffocate this time.

HISTORY

Alex is the oldest grandson of Samuel Thorn, an oil and steel tycoon from the south. Years of hard work and manual labor shaped Samuel in to a great man, but a hard one. This was a trait that he passed along to his son Ashton years later. When Samuel died, Ashton took over at the age of 18 as the head of the company. A few years later, Ashton chose to up his social standing by marrying socialite Larissa Matthews, a New Yorker with an attitude and a love for everything expensive. It didn't take long for Ashton and Larissa to bring their first child in to the world, a little girl named Melanie with her father's eyes and her mother's love for the grander life. Still, her father somehow managed to keep Melanie humble enough to prevent her from being an all out brat. Spoiled, yes, a monster...not so much. A little over a year later, Damien Alexander Thorn was born and Ashton considered his family complete. He didn't have time for the two children he already had, so why have more? Eventually his attitude shifted as Melanie and Damien grew older and developed their powers. Damien came from a long line of SPB's on both sides, so it wasn't a shock for anyone when he suddenly started creating portals and traveling around the grounds. As business settled in and no longer needed his attention, Ashton realized that he really did want a bigger family and so decided when Melanie was fourteen that he would attempt to have another child. Larissa wanted nothing to do with the whole process, so at the suggestion of his brother in law, he chose to become a foster parent. It gave him the children he wanted as well as good PR for his company. It was through this process that Damien met his best friend Octavia Wyatt. She and her brother were the second set of sibling to come in to the home, shortly before the first two left due to his parents thinking they were not SPB's. Once they met, Alex rarely left Tavie's side, even when she started to sell time with her power for money on the side. The day that he found out Tavie might be leaving because of her illegal activities was probably the worst he had experienced in his life. Melanie had sold them out and even then he couldn't completely blame her. They had already been through a few brushes with some pretty bad people. Maybe she was right. Rather than find out, Alex and Octavia took off in the middle of the night and then never looked back. Between her power and his, they managed to stay funded and on the move enough to evade his parents and any other authorities that were searching for them. Everything worked out perfectly until that very last night. Octavia had been doing her usual deal that night when the school showed up and tried to take them away. As usual, Alex started the portal and prepared to take them as far away as possible, but in the chaos Octavia didn't get there in time. Unfortunately Alex had already used a portal that day and couldn't get back to her in time. She was gone before he had a chance. Ever since then, Alex has been biding his time and waiting for a chance to bust Octavia out of the school. With his plans finally in place, he's ready to go get his friend back...hopefully.

POWER DESCRIPTION	Alex's portals tend to look more like  a vortex. They can be violent and even a little destructive if he doesn't have full control of it. To travel, all he has to do is think of a destination and then focus on a solid object in front of him. At that point, the vortex opens on his end. Usually he prefers to use a wall or the sidewalk because something like glass or grass can be too fragile or unstable. As far as carrying an object or taking someone with him, Alex has no issues as long as they grab on to him fast enough. Anything much bigger than him that can't move itself through the portal can get awkward and is in danger of getting cut off. people don't have this problem as much because they can stoop or jump, but it is a vague possibility. The downfalls of Alex's power aren't usually major, but they can have some serious issues. For example, if he tries to use an unstable surface, he can lose the portal too early or have problems on reentering. Unstable surfaces mean unstable landings that can be painful because of excessive force or falling upside down or sideways. Also, he must go through the portal once it is opened no matter what. If he doesn't then the portal will pull him through whether he is ready or not. Alex can only create two portals a day before he becomes too tired to make another. In an emergency he might be able to make a third but he would pass out immediately when he was done.
SPECIAL ITEMS	Alex doesn't keep many possessions as his lifestyle has him constantly on the move. He has a few trinkets from home, but other than that the only thing he really worries about keeping around is a knife. Sure, a gun would probably be more practical, but how practical can a sixteen year old be in his situation?
