Melanie was grateful when her bacon cheese fries finally came, giving her something to do with her hands. Pushing the plate towards Raelynn so she could get some if she wanted, Melanie tried to process what she was saying. Dani...isn't a very breakable person, or at least she wasn't when I knew her, which means whatever happened had to be hard for everyone. She tried to keep her tone unassuming, but she had to admit she wanted to know the circumstances behind all that. It made her not particularly fond of a girl she hadn't ever met before.

She can create fire, but it is easier, right now, for her to use fire that is already created to play with, hence the lighter. Raelynn is weak against cold weather, ice, and water which puts a damper on her power. She has to have sufficient oxygen to control fire and if, for some reason, she were suffocating, her power would instantly be harder to control.
She can use a small flame and, from that, create more fire far more easily than create fire from nothing. Raelynn can use her power as much as she wants, at least she will be able to after practicing at Ashford.

Raelynn felt her heart caving in on itself, "And while Dani tried to pull herself together, I tracked down and found Gemini and finally confessed my feelings to him."

Mel sat in silence, waiting for Raelynn to continue. She wanted to comfort her friend but she wasn't sure what to say without continuing to interrupt the story. Giving her a small but reassuring smile, Melanie flagged down the waitress and ordered another drink and just told her to leave the pitcher of water for Raelynn who seemed to be drinking it faster than they could bring it at this point.

Raelynn's hand tightened into a fist on the table top as her mind tried desperately to keep everything straight. There was the story, the facts and the timeline, and then there are her feelings regarding these stories, facts, and feelings. Raelynn was, and is still, having a hard time pushing beyond feelings of complete confusion to tell what is real, and what is a concoction of her most vengeful imagination, "Things weren't perfect." She started, smiling to herself as she remembered the hotel room, the banter, the chemistry, "But I was happy; contented with what he had told me. On the trip back he said he did have feelings for me, but he didn't know where they would lead us." Raelynn chewed on her lower lip to keep herself focused, "The day after we returned to Calloway, my mother tried to kill me." Leaning back in the booth, Raelynn drank nearly another full glass of water, "Gemini saved me, although I have to admit he was acting weird about everything." After a short pause to allow Melanie a moment to respond, Raelynn finally continued, "In the following days, I didn't see Gemini at all. Between trying to recover and making sure no one worried about me, I still noticed his absence. I went out to eat and ran into Ryan, Gemini's friend, who asking me on a date." She shrugged, "It seemed innocent enough and I wasn't sure what Gemini was thinking so I agreed without much thought." Glaring at the now empty glass of water, Raelynn finished, "I ran into him on the way out the door to meet Ryan. He was there to tell me he had chosen to BE with Dani. To go back to her. When I told him I had a date, he got furious, as if he had ANY right." Raelynn slammed her hand on the table, flattening her palm against the vinyl surface, "And to finish it off there didn't even get together." Raelynn looked at Melanie, "I was just another notch on his belt."

Her mouth dropped whenever Raelynn mentioned her mother, but she stayed sitting in shocked silence as she continued to talk about Gem and his douchebagedness. Rae this is...wow... She started, still processing the situation. He's an asshole and...I mean, why wouldn't he stick with you after saving you from your mother? Shouldn't that be like a bonding point? Most guys didn't just save the damsel in distress just to abandon her right after...without even sleeping with them. Just no sense, at all.

Heartless is definitely the way to be. If you aren't, they'll just make you wish you were. Her tone suggested she'd had more than enough experience in that area, not that that even mattered anymore. Maybe ryan will come around though...if you want him to. If not then it's probably for the best if he just runs off in to the sunset by himself, ya know? Or with Gem. Now that would be an interesting plot twist for this messed up story. That, or she was just a really, really bad person deep down.

I need to write that down." Digging a pen out of her bag and scratching out a few words, Raelynn started humming what could have been a pretty song.
