Melanie has the ability to mentally communicate with people. She has a normal range of around ten feet unless she is familiar with the mind she is communicating with. If she has communicated with someone before multiple times, she can feel their mental presence for up to 100 yards, but the connection tends to be weak. Her range only slightly increases when she is panicked and is attempting to find a specific person.
Communicating with a stranger is harder for Melanie because she currently struggles with finding the connection and holding on to it. With training, she might be able to hold a conversation with up to four people at the same time, but they would not be able to hear eachother's thoughts, only hers.

Not long after the discussion of the potential haunting on the Calloway chat, Melanie decided it was time to head over to the union in search of food. She hadn't ever intended on staying at Ashford for very long, with or without Alex, so she hadn't bothered with buying supplies for the room. Now she was starting to regret that. At least the lines were short because most people were out partying, getting drunk, or apparently watching Top Gun in the Page lounge. Once she had decided on a hamburger and a strawberry shake, mostly because her mother wasn't there to remind her that it would be bad for her figure, Melanie made her way to an empty table and put her headphones in so that maybe she wouldn't look as lonely eating by herself. That was the way she preffered it, after all. BRAXTON THOMAS WYATT

There are many different kinds of telumkinesis, apparently. Braxton's particular brand is the more powerful of them, allowing him to conjure anything to be used as a weapon. There are a few snags in this awesome power, the most annoying of which being the five foot rule. Anything he conjures can't leave a five foot radius from him.
Drops his sword? Poof, gone.
Bow and arrow? Only if you want to hit them with it.
Stapler? Sure why not, but don't expect those staplers to be useful once you leave the papers on the desk.
Another flaw int he power is that he must conjure the item with the intent of using it as a weapon. Whether it be to hit a dummy, or attack a person, Braxton's power won't work if he just wants to conjure a ruler for giggles. He has to have the intention of smack someone or something with it. The way he gets around this is very Hulk like. He just decided that if he is always angry, he will always want to beat something up and then conjuring stuff is no big deal.

Octavia was on campus, Braxton should be happy. But all he could really say that he has gained from the situation was confusion. And for Braxton, confusion is always followed by anger. In fact, anger is pretty much his response to every sort of situation. He was glaring at the pizza he had been staring at for twenty minutes, thinking about how he didn't use to be so...abrasive. Being mad at everyone for basically nothing had been the kind of guy he was. Life had always been more fun back then.
Someone took the table next to him and, without realizing it, he could hear her. She was humming in her head or something, to a song he didn't recognize. It was instinctual to let her in, which made him even angrier. He turned his head and glared at her, not sure exactly what she had done to trigger it this time. Turns out his hatred in her might have been a tad misplaced, but how could he ever admit that now? It was too late for them, "Why are you always around?" His voice was harsh and laced with annoyance.

Melanie barely heard him over her music, but as soon as she did she realized that the connection between them had been open. Great. This was exactly what she had planned to do with her Sunday. Its called eating Braxton. Humans have to do that some time. She retorted, almost wishing she had kept her mouth shut. It wasn't like Melanie didn't know that it was hopeless to argue with Brax, she was just getting tired of being his punching bag for no apparent reason. The only thing she had ever done wrong was worry about Tavie, and he didn't know anything about that as far as she knew. Maybe it was just easier for her to forget that they used to be friends. That, and she really needed to figure out a training regime to keep him out of her head as much as she needed to stay out of his. This sucked, royally.

He snapped, crossing his arms in front of his chest after he pushed the paper plate of pizza away from him. He had lost what little appetite he had.
He was silent for a moment, looking at the table in front of him in a moment before speaking, in a slightly softer but still harsh tone, "Sorry your brother wasn't with her." Melanie shook her head and ignored his stalking accusation other than that. Pick your battles right? What he said next did shock her slightly though. Why would he care whether or not Alex came home? He had Octavia back and that was all that mattered. Alex will show up eventually. They've never been separated long...not ever since they met that I know of. She reasoned, more trying to comfort herself than him. The only issue she had was hopefully keeping him from running off with Tav again. Even if he doesn't, I'll be leaving soon. Maybe he'll just stay here with her then. Mother was growing impatient, calling her childish for wanting to stay. France would be better and Alex had taken care of himself long enough that she shouldn't worry...but she did.

Melanie nodded, not sure what to think of the information. Of course she was expecting Alex any minute now, as was the school, but how long could they keep his powers neutralized? I just hope they don't do something stupid and run off again...but at least we know they are okay. I was worried that she'd get hurt with what she had been doing. Not to mention she had drug her brother along with her for the no doubt drug fueled ride. What if Alex was an addict now? How could he not be? She had so many questions and no one to answer them.

Pursing his lips, Braxton clenched his jaw when she mentioned that she was concerned the pair would disappear again once Alex arrived. He wasn't mad at her for saying so, he was mad because he knew she was completely right. Octavia was the definition of a free spirit, and she wouldn't want to be tied down somewhere for too long, "We can't let them leave." He said bitterly, "But you would have to stay." It wasn't hard to identify the reluctance in his voice. Maybe... She started, biting her lip and looking down. She really didn't see the point in it. At the end of the day her brother and Octavia would likely leave no matter what they did, but it was worth a shot. That's assuming he comes back though. It's been days and we haven't seen him yet. HE could literally be anywhere. Octavia was pretty stuck though, so maybe it was a good thing if her brother just went home or found their parents.

He generally thought that people worried over things they had no control over more than they worried about things that were actually worth worrying about. But even a blind person could tell that Alex's absence was having an affect on Octavia's mood. Anytime someone brought him up her light and bizarre power took a u-turn into clinical depression that affected the entire building. He frowned and looked at Melanie. Really looked at her for what seemed to be the first time in years, "He'll show. If he is anything like Tav he can't stay away for long."

I guess we'll see. Melanie said after a minute, thinking about what he said. There was a slight chance that he was right and that Alex would just pop in, but she doubted it. They had been gone too long for him to stay in one place now. Her phone vibrated before she could say anything else, breaking her out of her internal monologue. I gotta go...my self proclaimed new best friend has demanded band time. She explained with a soft smile. Raelynn probably was her new bestie and it felt good to have someone not hate her for a change. Grabbing her bag, she pulled out a pen and wrote her phone number down on a napkin and put it on the table in front of him. Just in case...you know. And with that, she walked out of the building towards Page Hall and away from Braxton Wyatt.
