THERMAL MANIPULATION |
Xan can sense and manipulate temperatures around him. He can feel in a sense heat and coll temps from people and objects allowing him to almost see his surroundings. This is just natural and doesn't shut off. If there are too many of the same temperatures around him he can't always differentiate between the objects.
Manipulating temperatures takes focus and he can hold a temp for up to three hours as long as it doesn't exceed -20F point or 300F. Anything past that the length he can keep it up differs. He doesn't have to be in physical contact with what ever he is working with but does have to be withing three feet of it. He can heat up a 10ft radius of water as long as he is in the water. It seems that if he is in contact with water he can make the heat or cool temps travel further. If he is not concentrating it doesn't work and there is the chance of getting too hold or cold that it will burn or freeze him only when the temp is at a more extreme. Also it is stronger if he is in physical contact with the object.

Voice recorders were on thing to find. A voice recorder that could handle extreme hots and colds was another. Xan was usually really good at controlling his abilities but every now and then he would over do it and there went another recorder. If he left it on the desk he wouldn't always be able to sense the thing because there was no temperature difference. So he usually tried to keep it a different temperature than the desk. Which is how the last one melted. It was kind of cool but not very productive.
He made his way to the school store and was asking one of the attendants what he could use. They pointed him in the general direction of voice recorders that could handle certain abilities. There wasn't anything there exactly what he was looking for but decided to settle on something that could resist fire. It meant he could keep the thing warm without it melting. As he finished up at the store he accidentally ran into someone. It was unlike him but he wasn't paying attention. "Wow really sorry about that. I didn't notice you" He apologized to the person now sensing their body heat. Xan mentally kicked himself for being off his game that day. | wearing THIS lovely outfit |

She knew how weird it was to have read all the books the History department had, but she liked to read well enough and it wasn't like she had anything better to do.
Today she was less covered up than usual, wearing a nice white blouse and black jeans with some metallic gold high heels boots. She knew she was looking nice and most of that was because she had dinner with her adoptive mother later that evening and she was planning on telling her that she wanted to change her name. But that was later and right now she just needed a distraction.
She had barely walked into the store when someone umped into her. Normally, she wouldn't have even noticed but her vision filled with the image of someone she didn't know getting frustrated with a melted lump of plastic that had once been a recorder. She grabbed the person's shoulder, using them to hold herself up until the vision passed, "Sorry. Sorry." She whispered, shaking her head and looking at the vaguely familiar looking guy. Ah. He was in her vision, "So you have a problem with melting them?" The voice was female and one he didn't quit recognize. "It is completely my fault. I should have been paying closer attention" Xan didn't mind the grip using his arm to help herself up. He would have offered a hand but that was sometimes awkward since he couldn't tell where to extend his hand half the time. What she said next confused him. He noticed her pointing to something and then it dawned on him what she was talking about. The voice recorder. "Yeah, made it a little too hot this time. Last time it froze to the point of shattering. That one was quite funny. How did you know?" He asked politely. He was curious what ability allowed someone he didn't know tell what happened to his recorder. He hoped he didn't sound rude by asking. People will always use what they have against you for your money. Kaelyn didn't actually believe that but she had gotten into the habit of doing what her mother told her, even if she didn't agree. That is why tonight was going to be really hard.

Apparently Professor Zimmermann thinks I could see the future too, with practice, but I am not sure I am interested in that." She really wasn't. Clairsentience. Just the name was interesting, but hearing the aspects of the ability really impressed Xan. "That is a really nifty ability" He was sincere. Just having powers was cool but he knew that there were some that were more impressive. It also depended on the person and their ability to really use that power. She mentioned seeing the future with her ability and her view on that aspect of the power. Xan could understand how she felt about seeing the future. He would not want to be told what his future held, what was the fun in that. "That is the whole point of the future right? For it to be unknown. To live each day in the moment" He smiled in her general direction. He could never look someone in the eye but it never really bothered him. "Name's Xan or Xander. Nice to meet you" He said as he put the new recorder in his pocket and extended his hand.

Being blind did put Xan at somewhat of an advantage. He never could see a smile or frown so he could never see people fake emotions. He could always hear it in their voice though. No matter how hard they tried there was always something different in their voice. Also emotions did influence body temperature so he was able to pick up some mixed emotions coming from the girl. "Hey is everything alright?" He didn't mean to pry but Xan could never leave a lady feeling down. He was a gentlemen that way and if he did and his father found out he would have Xan's head.

He wasn't fully convinced by her response but wasn't going to pry too much into the subject. He didn't even know her name. "I guess I'll accept that for now" He stated with a shrug. "So I have introduced myself, so what might your name be. I can't quite put a name to the voice, so I sure we have't exactly crossed paths before" He asked being polite as he did so. He didn't want to upset her by asking any more questions about how she was feeling. It was rued and he knew better. Maybe if he just got to know her better she would be willing to open up even just a little.

"Well it is a pleasure to meet you Ms. Kaelynn Page. Quite a lovely name if I might be so bold" He added. Her name was really pretty and did run off the tongue like honey. A senior as well. He wondered why he hadn't run into her before. Then again he did hang out around different people, sometimes troublemakers or people looking for a free snack. "Same here" He laughed at the irony. It really was possible to go around for years at the school and always meet someone new. Not that he minded too much, it was half the fun really.

People changed their names for multiple reasons and he was wondering what her reason was but knew better than to pry into that subject. There were many private people at Ashford and he usually did well to not step over certain lines. Instead he decided to ask a different question. "What do you plan on changing it to?" He was curious and there was no sign of judgement in his voice. Just by her voice he figured he was quite beautiful. He sometimes wish he could see people but didn't dwell on it too much. He could get a sense for a persons looks just through touch but he wasn't about to go around touching everyone's faces to get an idea of what they looked like. That would be stepping a line.
