The summer had finally arrived in Wyoming. The sun was beating down on Yellowstone Lake like it was trying to make up for the excessively long winter they had had that year. And Kaelyn intended to make full use of every second of sweet summer heat she could get.
The morning had been rather terrible for Kaelyn. She had written up some student who lived in Page Hall for using their power to scare people. Of course, that didn't go over very well and she had made herself a new enemy, which seriously bothered her despite her high and mighty attitude. Her hair straightener broke, which meant she had to put her hair in a pony tail, which she just didn't do ever. And she had tripped over something, she assumed was put in her path by someone who held a grudge, and skinned up her knee.
Right now, she was looking down her nose at the gnarly red scab that had patched up her scraped knee from earlier. She was laying on a chaise lounge listening to the flowing of the water in the swimming pool and wishing she could be in Florida, or California on a beach away from everything here in Calloway. Fat chance, right? TAGS | @noone right now NOTES | join me at the pool! you know you want to!

| Inhaling deeply, the figure spread his arms wide open, as if to embrace the comforting rays the sun so eagerly provided as he lay on the ground. The teenager was anxious to start his quest for the perfect, sunkissed skin. Clad in his pastel yellow swim trunks, a matching bucket hat, and clubmaster sunglasses, he was more than ready to meet the day head on. Remington was beyond ecstatic for his day of pure relaxation. Propelling himself off the ground, he bent over to pick up his backpack that had been resting beside him, crammed with his various sunscreens, a blue towel (and of course, a pastel blue at that,) and a few snacks to get him through the day. Dead set on spending multiple hours basking in the sun today, he was determined not to let anything get in his way.
Something seemed to have the local apparitions all riled up, as it was incredulous how many were skulking around him lately, whispering incoherent words into his ear. Bags clung under his sunken eyes, threatening to expose his fatigue to the public, and he could only be thankful his glasses hid his exhaustion. Currently hyped on caffeine, however,, he wiggled into his flip flops before taking off in a light jog, making a beeline for the school's pool. How many people had the same idea as Remington? It triggered a sinking feeling in his stomach, was there a chance he'd be forced into a hidden, shade filled spot? He was always doggone weary in the morning, not in the mind to viciously brawl for a decent spot if need be, hence why the Sophomore was only now heading out to soak up some of the sun that hung so prominently over Wyoming.
As the pool area came into view, he immediately scoped out the scene, his eyes glazing over every nook and cranny. A sigh of relief gushed from between his peach lips. The place wasn't a barren wasteland, but there were still magnificent seats in sight. A patriot stuck out like a sore thumb among the rest of the common crowd, individuality reeling Remington in as soon as his chocolate eyes rested upon her. Weaving through the sea of kids, he suavely made his way over to the female. Upon closer inspection, it took no duplicate of Einstein to figure out that she was not of Remington's age, all the more feeding the flames of social enthusiasm that pulsed rapidly through his veins. For the upcoming year, he had solemnly vowed to himself to branch out - enlarge his social circle and this was the perfect opportunity to do just that.
Approaching the girl in an assured demeanor, he stood at a vacant chair resting beside her own, "This seat taken?" he inquired in a pacific voice only to take out his towel and spread it out over the smooth surface of the chair anyways, regardless of what her answer was. Merrily flopping down, he proceeded to unpack his belongings from the overflowing bag. Wasting no time, the first item he whipped out was sunscreen as he could already feel the sun boring into his skin. Sunburn could not taint his skin this time around. The previous time he had been loitering around the poolside, he misplaced his sunscreen, and ultimately fried under the massive sun.
With eyes set in sheer perseverance, he massaged the lotion into his skin. Within moments of having covered the entirety of his front side, he turned to the female once more, offering her the tube of sunscreen, a wide grin plastered on his face, "Mind getting my back for me?" he asked shamelessly, baring his back to her.

Every once in a long while, a series of events happened that you can just tell are going to stay with you. It is almost like you can feel the memory being burned into your mind forever. For some reason, this was one of those moments for Kaelyn. She watched the younger boy enter the pool area, recognizing him as one of her residents and someone she had hardly spoken to. The boy had a reputation for being a little full of himself which, ironically, had made her feel protective of him before she had even laid eyes on him properly.
But now he was sitting next to her and she could see him better than she ever had before. She did even bother trying to respond when he asked if he could sit down, because she could tell that he was going to do whatever he pleased, anyway. In fact, she wasn't sure exactly how to start a conversation with him in that moment. How do you start talking to a person you have hardly ever seen before? Was there a way to make it not awkward? The answer to question was a resounding no. He had his back turned to her and she heard his question, but she couldn't figure out how to respond without seeming completely rude, "Actually..."She said in a stretched tone that emphasized how uncomfortable she was with the situation, "I would really rather not. My power isn't really friendly with skin on skin contact, ya know?" TAGS | @remington NOTES | join me at the pool! you know you want to!

556. @kaelyn . Hope I gave you enough to work with here?
| Grin replaced with a sullen frown at the female's response, Remington was utterly oblivious to the uncomfortable aura radiating off of her and the accentuation on each syllable coming out of her mouth to express that very awkwardness with the situation. Instead, the gears enclosed in his mind raced in curiosity, the words she chose prompted thought. What was her power? Pyrokinetic? He wondered inquisitively. It would explain her reaction, especially if she still struggled with reigning it in. Shaking his head at the notion, he was certain that couldn't be it. Why would she nonchalantly unwind by the water if she was gifted in Pyrokinesis? All pyromaniacs he knew strayed away from water like timid felines. Shrugging his shoulders to himself, he was fine with giving up on guessing over her ability, his focus zoning back on the impending mission at hand - getting his back layered in protection against the powerful rays relentlessly beating down.
It was impractical that the boy would be able to cover his back and he found himself wishing he had elasticity. Jutting out his bottom lip, he noted how lucky those people were, virtually able to reach everything. It had been made crystal clear that the girl next to him would not be slapping it on for him. Instead, he attracted the attention of a passerby, flagging him down. Luckily, it happened to be someone he was neighborly with, and were willing to lend a helping hand. Thanking them with a nod of his head as they handed back his sunscreen,, he leaned back into the lounge chair, stretching out with a pleasurable sigh.
For a few hushed moments, he laid there with his eyelids locked up tight, yearning to catch up on his missed slumber. The task not made easier by the shots of espresso he had earlier that afternoon to keep himself from collapsing. What could be done? He was bursting at the seams with energy. Not looking forward to the crash of his high, his head lolled to the side, facing the girl yet again. Orbs narrowing in faint recognition, it took him till now to find familiarity in her facial features, only to have it slip away. No, that hadn't met. Had they? It was tempting to ask something along the lines of, "Have we met before?" but he swallowed the cliché words. All sounding like a cringe-inducing pickup line to Remington.
Reaching into the depths of his bag, he pulled out a pouch of sunflower seeds, the perfect food to snack out when lazing by the poolside. Placing a sheet of paper towel in his lap, he held the bag of seeds out to the older girl, not phased by the early rejection. Or does your power stop you from touching sunflower seeds as well? He thought sarcastically, not too amused at his own poke at fun.
"The names Remy," he blurted with a charming smile. If the both of them ended up out here for awhile, he assumed introductions were in order. Chatterbox as he was, he'd be making passes at conversation for as long as the two were out here together. Also, he really didn't want to continue to call her America in his head.
"And you?" he prodded, adopting a tranquil tone, not wanting his fleeting words to rub off unsavory.

A few different thoughts passed through Kaelyn's mind all at once, the first of which was an underlying curiosity about this kid. He seemed confident and didn't mind awkward situations, or he just didn't NOTICE awkward situations, Kae wasn't actually sure. She bit her lip and smiled, accepted a few sunflower seeds and shrugged, not sure she wanted to really tell him her name. She was still getting used to the idea that she had been adopted by a family who owned one of the Ashford dorms, "Kaelyn." She said in a sweet voice, popping a salt sunflower seed in her mouth, "Kaelyn Page. Nice to meet you." TAGS | @remington NOTES | join me at the pool! you know you want to!
