ANY LONGER AND IT CAUSES MASSIVE HEADACHES, NOSE BLEEDS AND IN SOME CASES SHE WILL PASS OUT BUT THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN TILL THE TWO HOUR MARK. THE SIMPLER THE COMMAND THE EASIER IT IS TO CONTROL THE ANIMALS. RAVEN PREFERS TO JUST ASK THE ANIMAL IF THEY ARE WILLING TO DO SOMETHING RATHER THAN CONTROL THEM. IF HER CONCENTRATION IS BROKEN SHE LOOSES CONTROL.

Class was over and instead of going to the library or back to her dorm to finish up the little bit of homework she had left, Raven was standing outside Mr. Kale's classroom. She didn't really want to be there but she wasn't making much progress in the training sessions. Her friends were already going to higher levels and she was stuck. She never had such problems before with a class. Just this one was different. This class focused on working through fears. Her fear, as simple as it was just caused so many issues. She would have anxiety attacks every time she trained and couldn't last very long. Sure she pushed on and tried but she really didn't know if it was a smart idea to stay in the class. That is why she was there.
She didn't want to quit, it wasn't like her but she needed the teachers opinion. Or even just some advice or a reason why she reacted so badly to her fear. Maybe that was all she needed was to realize why her fear affected her in such a way. Raven knocked on the open door slightly before walking in. "Mr. Kale, do you have a moment?" She asked as she walked over to the desk. Her voice wavered slightly but she still had a smile. She just hoped that something good would come out of talking with Kale even if he was the most disliked teacher on campus.

Students never stayed after class, and rarely neither did he. Of course he graded the stupid homework that the school forced on him and showed up to his main training duties, but after that...well, he wasn't a people person for a reason. So when his most timid student knocked on his door for a conference, Asher found himself inclined to stay rather than slamming the door. Motioning to an open chair in front of his desk, Asher took his own and looked the girl over. This was strange, exceedingly so. By all means, Miss Gaunt. Make yourself at home. I'm assuming this is important if you couldn't wait for this week's session? He asked, though his voice might not have been as condescending as it normally was. Maybe he was getting soft in his old age.

Sitting down in the chair provided Raven wondered exactly where to begin. "it is about the next lesson. We'll sort of" There really wasn't any way of phrasing what she wanted to ask and she didn't even know if he had the answers. She just didn't have anyone to turn to. Her brother being in town kind of made thing worse oddly enough. "I don't like to give up but I need to hear it from you if I am really cut out for this class" Raven took a deep breath before speaking again. She was still giving a slight smile, trying to stay somewhat calm since she was still nervous about asking such a question.
"I haven't really progressed in training and seem to be falling behind everyone. I know each person is going to be different, but I don't understand when I can't go a single session without having some breakdown" She didn't want to quit or drop from the class. But if it was just going to cause past issues to become worse was it really worth staying in the class?

Ah. This was a conversation he was used to having. More than one student had graced his office with their presence, wanting answers he couldn't give for the most part. Fear and stress training isn't for everyone. In all technicality, Miss Gaunt, you might be doing yourself more harm than good. his words were honest, but he wasn't done quite yet. Unlike most of the sniffling failures that made their way in to the room looking for reassurance, Gaunt had impressed him and he wasn't quite ready for her to give up yet. I'll tell you the secret to fear as long as you stay in this course one more session. The only thing you truly have to fear, ever, is fear itself. That is why people leave this class. They never realize that everything they fear is second to the fear itself. and that was why he made people nervous. You could get over love, you can take medication for pain, but fear was the one thing they could never out run. Not until they learned to dance with their demons.

He was right, the training wasn't for everyone. She really didn't feel it was for her and she knew others had left the class. That was just something she didn't want to do. She didn't want to quit but if she was told that it wasn't something she could succeed in then she would. But he wasn't telling her to quit. Another session, another chance to overcome what she feared. She knew it wasn't going to be easy. Her fear had been with her forever it seemed. If she was being honest she lived in her fear for so long that she never wanted to go back to that, or be reminded of it.
Nothing to fear but fear itself. She had heard the concept before but that didn't make it any easier to make that difference. "So it is not exactly realizing that you should be afraid of fear it is realizing that the subject of the fear is irrelevant?" She half asked and half just tried to say it out loud so she would understand better. "So if I stay in the class you will teach me how to understand the difference?" She was hopeful that it could work, she really wanted it to work out.

I will attempt. Let me explain it to you this way. Standing up, he leaned against the wall and started gesturing with his hand and his hook at the same time. Very seldom did he speak with his hands, other than when he was truly lecturing. Most of the time he was too drunk to manage that for any length of time though. Your fear of being alone is highly irrational. Loneliness cannot kill you. It cannot harm you. However, you fear it above all else. What's worse, the fear or the loneliness? If you can learn to tolerate the dark or even embrace it, the fear still doesn't go away. But you can harness it, especially if it enhances your powers. Fear is the most powerful force in the universe. More than love, passion, or loyalty. Fear can make or break you. What the outcome is, that is entirely up to you.

Raven listened closely to what Asher was explaining. It was a good deal to process. She had lived most of her life having to deal with fear on her own so naturally she didn't deal well. No one ever told her not to be afraid of the dark or how to cope with fears. It just turned into a burden and constant anxiety to the point where it became a permanent thing. He was right her fear couldn't hurt her she just never knew how to deal with it. The concept of fear being true power wasn't new to her. It was how both her mother and father held power. Through fear and cunning. There wasn't much love there, and definitely none for her. What was the first step in harnessing that fear? "What do I need to do to start harnessing it? Or is that something I need to discover on my own?" She asked. Raven really wanted to get past this, to overcome her fears. It was the only way to really move on with her life.

Asher shook his head, more in thought than anything else. How do you explain something like that? The concept was so intangible that even he wasn't sure what to do with it. To an extent that is something you'll have to figure out by yourself. Some people envision things, other just simply release their selves to it. Me personally, I've admitted to myself that the only thing to fear is me. If I ran from that, I would go crazy. She could do it, of that he had no doubt. It was getting her to stop doubting herself that was proving to be the issue.

Self realization kind of thing. She figured that was the answer. Raven took a deep breath thinking about the whole thing. To embrace the fear she had to really face it in a sense. It was the how part that she was still working over in her head. If she really looked at it her life was ruled by fear. It was why she was shy, played it safe. It was the thing holding her back. The reason she never stood up to her parents or took matters into her own hands. She was afraid and still hiding. She was afraid to say anything about her family or make people upset. The worse part is she was always too proud to admit it. Just coming here asking for help was a stab in her pride. "I just have to face it and not back down like usual" She said more in a whisper. Not back down, not let the anxiety take over. That was going to be hard, very hard. Maybe she needed to take it in steps. It was going to be a process she knew that. As long as she had support she was sure it was going to be alright, hopefully.
