PERSONALITY | There are two types of people in this world, the people who go to school and work their ass off to learn, and people who can just learn whenever they want to and don’t bother to spend the time on it. Liam is definitely part of the second group. With his photographic memory, Liam has no problem learning new things and retaining pretty much anything he reads or sees, but he doesn’t like being told what to do, or following a leader like a lost little dog. This attitude has led Liam to become cavalier about his education and drop out of high school before he was able to graduate from Ashford Academy. Liam is a secretive and private kind of person. He comes across of open when he is talking to people but there are parts of his life and history that he doesn’t ever want to share with anyone. He is naturally skeptical of others and doesn’t trust people easily at all. He doesn’t have a very strong sense of loyalty or love for anything except himself as a result of circumstance. Liam doesn’t hold a steady job right now. He enjoys the job hunt more than actually keeping a job. Liam is more likely to do odd jobs here and there than to keep an office job or something like that. In fact, most recently Liam spent a few days helping lay cables for better internet for Calloway. |

HISTORY | From his earliest memory, Liam has been alone. Now, this is something that would normally mean a person lived a lonely and sad life, but Liam doesn’t see it that way. He doesn’t hate people because of his circumstance and he doesn’t blame anyone. He doesn’t resent his family, that he can think of, although they may be different if he were ever to actually run into them, but there is one thing that he knows. Finding out he was a SPB saved him. He grew up in an orphanage in Detroit. It was a shitty little hole with no heater and a roach problem. The cleanest the place ever got was when the inspectors were coming and the boys in the home spent a week scrubbing the floors with Magic Erasures in hope the place would be lean enough to pass the inspection. But the woman who ran the place, Marta Morales, took care of all twenty six of the boys like they were her own. She made sure they all ate enough and tried her best to help them through school if she could. If Liam had ever loved anyone in his life, it would have been Miss Morales. School, for Liam, was a difficult adjustment. He was smart, and all of his teachers noticed it, but he had a huge problem with authority. He didn’t like being told what to do and homework was almost never done unless Marta told him to do it herself. Marta never commanded that Liam do anything. She always asked him nicely, as if he were her equal, and Liam respected that highly. The struggle through the public school system only heightened when Liam’s power ‘bloomed’ when he was in middle school. At the young age of twelve, Liam was sitting on the playground behind the intermediate school waiting. He had missed the bus and Marta was forced to ride three subways and a streetcar to get to the school so she could escort him home. Liam never thought she needed to go out of her way, but she insisted it wasn’t safe for a child to be in the city alone and that she would never let him do all that traveling alone anyway. While he was waiting, Liam swung back and forth, kicking the rocks as the swing reached its lowest point. He watched the little pebbles fly into the air and scatter into the grass as her ascended and then hit the rocks again. Suddenly, the rocks few into the air and didn’t fall into the soft, green grass below. Instead they were caught by a series of vines that sprung out of the ground and conveniently caught all of the little rocks. Liam fell off the swing in shock and shook his head, trying to process what had happened. Through the gaps in the thick vines that had grown suddenly from the ground, Liam could see the frightened face of Marta Morales. The caretaker was silent the entire trip home. Before they went through the door, she stopped him on the steps and ducked down so her face was level with his. He could tell she was sad about something but didn’t know exactly what, and then he knew. A black SUV pulled up to the curb in front of the orphanage and a woman climbed out wearing a black pencil skirt and matching blazer. She smiled nicely, though it was easy to see the sternness behind her eyes. The woman’s name was --- --- --- and she was there to adopt Liam. It was no surprise to Marta that Liam didn’t want to go. He whined and complained about it, refusing to pack and throwing a tantrum in hopes of scaring the woman off, but she just seemed to smile wider every time he yelled at her and insisted that he begin packing. Next thing Liam knew, Marta was blowing him kissed across a terminal as he boarded a place to Wyoming. With high aptitude test scores, Liam was able to start at Ashford Academy when he was thirteen. He was the youngest student at the school and, although he disliked his classes and being at school in general, his grades were actually very good. When he finally reached his senior year, Liam started to act out. He was only sixteen years old and resented being taken away from the one place he had always felt respected. Here at Ashford, people either hated him for being smarter than they were, or looked down on him for being younger than they were. The only bonus to the crappy school was the fact that he was able to practice his power. He became very apt with his ability and quickly mastered many parts of his power that most SPB wouldn’t have had access to for another couple of years. Three months before graduation, Liam got into a huge fight with a chemistry teacher about a type of acid. Despite the fact that Liam was, in fact, right, he still lost what little respect he had for educators and dropped out of Ashford. He moved into a small apartment in Calloway where he has stayed and worked odd jobs since he stopped attending school. |
ALL THE SMALL THINGS
POWER | CHLOROKINESIS |
POWER DESCRIPTION | Liam’s ability is to control, manipulate, and create plants and anything related to them. He can cause any type of plant life to grow from grass to trees. He can also bring plants that have died, whether they died from not being watered enough or from burning up in the sun, back to life with the wave of his hand. Liam cannot kill plants. His ability also forces him to feel pain for plants. It is a type of ecological empathy, but not as intense. He can’t tell how the plants are always feeling, only when they are in pain or need ‘healing’ or are ‘hungry’. Liam in able to supplement photosynthesis and provide the needed nutrients to plants when they are not getting what they need. |
