you touched me and
suddenly i was a lilac sky

Evenings were probably Tally's favorite time of day. She always preferred night time to day time, so sunsets were to her what sunrises were to others; a beginning of sorts. Although it had rained earlier in the morning, the clouds were far gone and a painted sky of vibrant reds, oranges, golds, and purples shone brilliantly above, reflecting off the lake in shimmering hues. It was chilly out, but that was to be expected, and Tally's clothing were more than comfortable for the temperatures, which seemed to be plunging every day as they got further into autumn.
Tally sat on the end of the dock, dangling her feet over the edge. The dock was high enough in the air that her feet stayed far from the surface of the water. It was a terribly cliche situation, sitting on a lake dock as the sun set. But Tally still wasn't completely used to constantly being surrounded by so many classmates around her age and having to go to school, so she jumped at the chance to get away whenever it presented itself.
No doubt the nature around her was singing beautiful sounds of lapping water and twittering birds and what not, but Tally didn't hear any of it, since she had earphones in and was listening to her own music of choice. She had her old iPod that was at least seven years old, a clunky old thing without a touch screen or apps. It served the job of playing music, though, so she was perfectly content with it. The library inside was a timeline of her musical choice over the years, shifting from the pop songs that she had listened to as a grade schooler to the pop punk and emo music that she liked during her middle school phase, and her current music preference, which was now a more diverse range of alternative music. Since it was on shuffle, there was definitely a large difference between each song as it played, going from an early Taylor Swift song to a My Chemical Romance song and then on to Metric. Tally hummed along to each song as it played, enjoying her solitude, a rare luxury as of recently.
