The ride home after finding out the truth had been excruciatingly painful. Her phone was still broken and the tiny town they had been stuck in didn't have a place to repair one, so there was no way to get ahold of Liam other than hoping Rae was getting Gem's texts. Even then, she wasn't sure Rae could find Liam outside of a bar if she tried.
She didn't even go back to the dorms, instead opting to have Gem drop her off at Aunt Ruth's house so that she could borrow a car to go find her boyfriend on her own. Being gone for three days couldn't bode well with him, and things were only going to get worse from there if she was right. If she was lucky he would speak to her again before she died.
A quick stop at the Oasis didn't turn up anything, neither did the Camp or anywhere else in town. There was only one place left that she could check, so she turned the car towards Lower Falls and drove there as fast as she could.
The long hike was lonely without him, even more so when she thought about how he might not even be there. Between the anxiety, the climb, and the lingering trauma from the accident, her head was pounding by the time she reached the empty platform. In all appearances, it didn't look like he was there, but it was still early. Maybe she would sit and wait for a while, hoping for a miracle.
