PERSONALITY | Robin is blunt. Despite her recent attempts to clean up her act and become a better, more approachable person, she is still blunt. She cuts right to the point and doesn't have too much patience for the people this upsets. She doesn't watch her words, doesn't dumb things down, doesn't sugar coat. And, due to this, many have the - correct - impression of her as being rude. But, usually, Robin doesn't intend to make anyone feel bad - though she often does shoot for an uncomfortable. Robin is not a very person to spend time around. She's not too great at being a good person. She ignores people, cuts them off, and doesn't seem to notice more subtle clues. She responds best to people who communicate like she does, which is bluntly. Though she is intolerant of a lot of things that others may see as small - political ideals, and such - she is pretty forgiving to people who are rude, mean, cruel, or lash out. Robin's oral compass may be different than that of others, in that it is very centered on the big picture. She has no problem with people who treat others bad individually, but she has a big problem with people who don't support groups. People who don't like welfare, people who argue against social security, people who don't want the government to put more money towards schools, homeless shelters, etc.: these are the bad people in Robin's view of the world. Her hard exterior is difficult to get past. Now don't get me wrong. Robin is not 'shielding her true self' or anything. The part of Robin that most people see is just as much a part of her as her softer side. When Robin feels really comfortable with someone, a lot of things don't change. She's still rude, she's still sarcastic, and she's still not exactly nice. But she's smiling earnestly, she's playful. Contrary to the belief of some of her old 'friends', Robin is not a completely unhappy person. She can come to care about people - with perhaps a bit more difficulty than some. Robin is afraid of caring about people. She doesn't trust her own judgement. But she does come to care about people - and she is fiercely protective. Though normally self-serving, Robin becomes willing to sacrifice just about anything when someone she cares about is in danger. Note: calls anyone noticeably younger than her 'kid'. |
THE HOUSE THAT BUILT ME
MOTHER | ABIGAIL MARINA WILLIAMS - 40 - Laundromat Worker - "She's pretty alright. We were pretty close but I hated her for staying with my father. She needs to stand up for Marco and Lizzie. I wish she wasn't so weak willed, but I guess I still love her. I want her to safe." |
FATHER | JACOB MATTHEW WILLIAMS - 44 - Engineer - "I wish I was religious so I could find comfort in thinking he'd be going to hell. There is no evil I wouldn't wish on this piece of crap. He has no right to treat my family the way he does." |
SIBLINGS | MARCO DAMIEN WILLIAMS - 13 - Student - Brother - "Marco was my first sibling, and the first person - besides mom, I guess -that I really cared about. I'm scared for him living with my dad now that I can't protect him anymore." ELIZABETH ABIGAIL WILLIAMS - 10 - Student - Sister - "Like Marco, I kept her safe from my dad. He was never to bad with her, but I'm still worried about what he might do. But I really do love my little sister. She's an absolute angel. She's really kind to everyone she meets. She turned out so right in comparison to the rest of our family." ANNE LOUISE WILLIAMS - 2 - N/A - Sister - "I don't know her too well. Liz, Marco, and I spent as much time as possible out of the house, so I don't know too much about the - no longer new, I guess - baby." |
OTHER | "My dad didn't really want us seeing our family. I never met any of my cousins, aunts, uncles, or grandparents. I don't think my mom has seen er own family since I was born." |
SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW
HISTORY | Robin was the first, oldest child. It was because of this that she had to figure things out on her own. There was no one to protect her from her father's abuse, barring a few times her mother had made small attempts and received both a physical and verbal thrashing. Throughout elementary school, she hid bruises and left home from between the hours of 6 and 10, when her father came home from work and got drunk, though this tactic was not perfect in escaping his wrath. She had difficultly connecting and relating to the other kids at school, and for a long time her only friend was her younger brother, who she stuck to like glue for a while, and did her best to keep him out of the house and out of trouble. Part of the way through middle school, Robin actually made some friends. But they weren't exactly good people. She fell in with the bad crowd - parties at night, drinking, smoking, you name it. Perhaps the only reason she didn't get too wrapped up with the wrong people was that she had two younger siblings to protect, and she didn't dare take them along. Her grades started slipping and she started skipping classes, much to the anger of her father. By the time she started high school, she was a certified delinquent. Her life continued down a rougher and rougher path, until the point where her powers manifested. At the time she was high, hanging out at the friends house. One of the boy had tried to take advantage of her state, pulling her off to separate room. As her struggling failed, she grew more and more distressed until the dark room light up. For a few seconds she saw and felt nothing - late she would realize she fainted - but she came to again to the screams of the boy as he clutched his eyes. She took this chance to get out of the house and back to her own, stumbling through the darkness, before ending up in her garden, where she passed out. After that, her memory of the night was hazy but she found odd things happening. When she was reading along at night, the light would grow brighter and make the pages easier to read. In the classroom, when she got annoyed, sometimes the lights would flicker or dim. It took her sometime to realize what she could do. She slowly started trying to use the power, finding that to be more difficult than just letting her emotions do the work. Than, rather suddenly, she got admitted into Ashford. She seriously considered not going. She had a brother and sister to take care of. But Marco was 13 now, and he told her that she had to go, that this was her chance to get out. Eventually, she figured, she had to go. She didn't know how to control her powers, which only seemed to be getting stronger. After a heartfelt, teary goodbye with Lizzie and Marco, she headed towards a new school, and a new life, promising herself to start here with a clean slate. The hazy memory of that night still stuck with her. She wondered how well her father would be able to beat her mother and siblings if he couldn't see. |
ALL THE SMALL THINGS
POWER | Photokinesis |
POWER DESCRIPTION | Light, in a scientific sense, is radiant energy. This the basic idea behind Robin's ability. She cannot manipulate light to reach into the shadows, or move light around beyond it's confines. Robin finds her power easier to use when there is a light source - such as a candle or flashlight. She then can cause the light from the source to dim to the point of complete darkness or brighten to the point of.... well, she hasn't gotten there yet. But she can make things pretty bright. However, her power isn't limited to just manipulation of preexisting light sources - she is able to turn anything into a light source, though this is far more difficult. She doesn't know exactly what she can do with this part of powers yet. The weakness to her power is that it requires energy, much in the same way physical activity does. It uses the energy humans make from breaking up carbohydrates into radiant energy at an exhausting rate, so Robin is limited in using her powers for long amounts of time or high amounts of power. Her powers are also capable of going a bit haywire and turning her whole body into a light source - strong enough to temporarily (~10 seconds) blind anyone looking at it directly - but will pass out before she can really do any damage. This only happens if she lets her emotions go out of control, and part of the reason she turned away from cigarettes and drugs. It's possible that one day, once she has better control of her power, he may be able to better direct it - possibly becoming able to permanently blind people with it. For now though she has neither the control or power to use her power that way. Though she's learning to control more minor usage of her power, such as flickering/dimming/brightening lights depending on her mood, it's still a bit difficult to control her abilities. |
