| The first day of class had come and gone for Dani without any major incidents. All of her classes seemed to be pretty easy and the training looked interesting, so what did she have to complain about? Nothing much, other than maybe Ralph.
Every time she was away from him she either got paranoid or started wondering if they had rushed in to things. Sure, Dani liked the big guy, maybe even loved him, but did she really know him that well? That was why she was sitting in the corner of Zellner lawn with her phone on top of her backpack. She should call Ralph and hang out with him, but she couldn't bring herself to pick up the phone. It didn't feel right, not right now.
Instead she finally dialed another number and left a brief text when she was done. There was another guy in her life that might be able to make things a little more interesting without driving her insane.

Gem had been watching a horror movie when his phone had gone off. He rolled his eyes assuming it was another one of his ex hook ups looking for him, whining to him, or wanting something they had left back. He was pleasantly surprised to see it was Dani summoning him to Zellner lawn. It might be nice to get out and spend time with a girl who wasn’t trying to drive him nuts in some way or another. He threw on a pair of jeans and a grey cotton t-shirt, he didn't bother doing his hair instead of letting it lay in a mess of waves which was rare for Gem unless he was working out. He grabbed his phone and his keys and headed out to Zellner Lawn stopping to grab a couple coffees on the way. When he got there and saw her sitting there he got a big goofy grin. He dropped down in the grass next to her his legs bent and his forearms resting on top of his knees. How’s my favorite girl in the whole wide world? He offered her one of the cups. |

| Gem was easy to spot from a distance, mostly by the way almost every girl turned to stare at him. Dani just didn't see the appeal, but maybe it was because they were friends and she had no intention of ever dating or sleeping with Gemini Cooper in her life. One girl had the audacity to tell her that would change after a party some day, but that had just earned the dumb broad a broken nose.
"I'd be flattered if I didn't know you said that to almost every girl on campus Gem. Literally." Still, she took the coffee and sipped at it for a second. How was she supposed to respond to that? She could just jump straight in to what was bothering her, but that didn't sound like even a little bit of fun right now."Classes were boring, training might be fun. How did yours go?"

| Dani nodded and covered her face in shame, but not at the part about running away from the relationship. She should have found time to talk to Gem or anyone else about this earlier so that maybe things wouldn't have gotten this far out of hand. "We've been seeing each other since before Vegas. He helped me out one night when I got banged up and ended up in a bind...I don't know why, but I told him that I had feelings for him and now...now I'm not sure." Good guys like Ralph didn't deserve girls like her who couldn't make up their minds. He needed someone who could love him for sure and tell him that every day.
Shaking her head, Dani realized that she might need to explain her train of thought a little bit more to make it not sound like she was playing the big guy. Then again, this was Gem, player extraordinaire. "He's just such an over bearing guy, but not in a way most girls would think of as bad. I don't need someone to protect me all the time and he just doesn't get that. Sure, I was banged up when we got together, but that doesn't make me some damsel in distress for him to run around saving all the time." Losing her independence was something that Dani just couldn't do. It was all she really had in the world, the only thing she could count on.

He smirked to himself when Dani backtracked out of fear of sounding like a player, his whole life was based on lying to girls. Alright Girl. He said seriously but not looking at her I'm about to lay some knowledge on you. I know you've got this whole independent I'm a badass don't look at me funny or I'll shank you thing going on.. He said moving his hand in a circle motion at her But this thing you have with Ralph is great because your feelings are genuine because you don't Need him because you don't need him to protect you, like your not looking for that big strong guy to take care of you. | Sighing, Dani rolled over on to her back and away from Gem slightly. Sure, it was exactly what she wanted to hear. That they had done the right thing and everything would be find...but that didn't mean she had to like it. There was just something off about the whole situation that she couldn't get Gem to understand for some reason, not right now.
Then it dawned on her that she might have hit her own answer on the head earlier. Becca. What had that little blonde idiot gotten him in to now? "Alright, your turn. Fess up, what's going on with Ashland?" It wasn't that Dani necessarily minded his ex-girlfriend...thing...she just hated the way it seemed like Becca strung Gem along. One of these days she was going to do something that she couldn't take back. Maybe she already had.

| A distraction sounded great, but finding one in a sleepy town like Calloway was beyond hard and there was no way for them to leave the area until this weekend. What a mess. "Unless you know of something interesting to do during the week, I'm at a loss. Sitting in your room watching horror movies doesn't sound distracting enough." That and she hated sitting still for too long. Once and a while in the movie theater was alright, but she wanted to move around too much any other time.
Actually, there was one decent idea, but it was a little cool out for it with the dropping temperatures and the light breeze. It hasn't stopped her before though. "Hey, why don't we head down to the lake? It's cool enough that it should be devoid of all our people past, present, and future." Standing up, she offered a hand to Gem. She'd need to stop by the dorm first because there was no way she was swimming in her uniform. That was just a train wreck waiting to happen.

| Dani grinned up at Gem for a second before leaning over to grab her bag off of the ground. "Race you there loser. Last one buys dinner!" With that she took off in the direction of her dorm, even though she knew that Gem would probably beat her there anyways. It was still fun to try and compete with him whenever possible.
She was ready in record time, a black bikini on under her clothes and a towel on her arm. Maybe it would have been a good idea to wear sweat pants instead of jeans because the water was going to be freezing cold, but no one ever accused Dani of having more than one good idea in a row. Only twelve minutes had passed between the time she left Gem and when she made it to the shoreline of Yellowstone Lake. He was no where in site, but that didn't mean that Gemini wasn't there somewhere.

Gem had rushed back to his dorm to grab a pair of black swim trunks he chose to wear a pair of black sweat pants over them since there was no way his normally fitted jeans would fit comfortably over his baggy swim trunks. He shrugged his hoodie on and grabbed a towel that had been discarded on the floor from his earlier shower. He raced down toward Yellowstone lake as fast as he could and cursed to himself when he saw Dani already standing at the shoreline. He'd probably never hear the end of it now that she had beat him. He walked as quietly as he could until he was close enough for Dani to him. BOO! He yelled in an attempt to scare her. |

| Rolling her eyes at Gem's tone, Dani dove under the water to get fully submerged. Luckily either hypothermia was already settling in or she was getting used to the water faster than usual. Opening her eyes, she managed to see Gem's silhouette beneath the waves and swum over towards him, grabbing his legs and pulling him under with her before swimming away as fast as she could.
About ten yards away from where she had started and in deeper water, Dani stopped even though she had resurfaced earlier. "Why have nice things when you can have fun, Gem." She called behind her with a loud laugh.
