cause we got that fire and I know why, we ain’t gone die tonight

Karys yawned, awkwardly covering her mouth with her hand as she trudged towards the student union. It was the middle of the day but she was exhausted for some reason. Probably lack from lack of sleep, she was up most of the night watching some scary movie on netflix and then spent most of the rest of the night nervous that something was in her dorm room. There was absolutely no food in the mini fridge she snuck into her dorm room which means she'd have to resort to grabbing something from the student union. The food was actually pretty decent but she just hated the walk from Page Hall.

Pulling open the doors to the union, Karys was overly relieved that there wasn't a whole crowd of people already inside. Not that she minded meeting new people just that she wasn't in the mood for waiting in line to get something to eat. A few minutes later, she was set up in a corner table with a deli chicken sandwich and a mountain dew. She always went for the corner tables mainly cause she loved to just people watch and also she likes being able to just look out the windows while eating. Pulling out her iphone, Karys started scrolling through her social medias looking for something interesting to keep her occupied.

When Alex finally got up it was already late, not that he cared about the time anyway. He was used to that, coming home late and sleeping until noon. Of course, he had to work at the bar and last night, when he finally got back in his room, it was already four in the morning. Now he found himself walking in the direction of the mini fridge, opening it and frowning, it was empty. " Oh come on, are you kidding me?" He said angry slamming the door and turning on his heels, great, just.. Great..now he had to get dressed and go get some food. And he was not in the mod to get out at all but.. He needed food. So he had to go.

After a long list of pros and cons he finally decided it was time to leave. So he started walking down the street, hands in the pockets of his jacket, some sunglasses covering his eyes. His hair was a total mess but he managed to make it look good, now all he had to do was get that food, eat and go home. Probably sleep or watch TV, nothing new for him anyway.

When he finally got in front of the place he pushed the doors open the corners of his mouth curling into a smile as he looked over the woman behind the counter " A hamburger and..some fries please" Alex said trying to seem calm even if he suddenly felt the urge to hide somewhere and die, he just wanted to get out of there and hide in his room. When the woman placed the plate in front of him the man smiled and grabbed it noe turning around his light deep blue gaze analyzing the room for a free table. He finally sat down a sigh escaping his lips as he looked at the food in front of him before he started eating.

As far as people watching, it was an absolute bust. There was no one really here to begin with aside from a few groups of friends. And social media was entertaining for a while but it was kinda depressing after a while because she was all the way in Wyoming while most of the people on her feed were back in Virginia. She sighed and clicked off her phone, setting it down on the table next to her. This chicken sandwich wasn't really living up to its standards so Karys opted to toss the leftovers in the nearby trashcan. After plopping back down at the same table she had just occupied, she picked up her phone and sent a quick how are you text to Tiffany before glancing across the cafeteria in hopes something interesting happening. Now that she was out in public she didn't really feel like going back to her dorm room just yet.

After a few minutes of gazing distractedly across the room, the doors to the cafeteria opened, letting in a tall blonde haired boy. Bored out of her mind and acting like a total stalker, Karys just sat and watched as he moved through the cafeteria line grabbing food and then settling down at one of the open tables. Karys watched him for a few more seconds before mentally shrugging to herself. Might as well go meet some new people. Perfect opportunity, he looked about just as alone as she did. She pushed herself up from her chair and picked her way across the room to his table. Pulling out the chair just in front of him, she lifted her hand in a little wave as she sat down. "Hi, this is probably extremely awkward but I saw you were eating alone and wanted to come see if you wanted any company. My names Karys." She grabbed the mountain dew she'd placed down on the table and took a drink, mostly to keep herself from continuing to talk the poor kids ear off.

Alexander raised his head now analyzing the girl in front of him raising an eyebrow a chuckle escaping his lips while he nodded „Whatever. I’m Alex” He said with a rather calm voicee, his light deep blue gaze now fixed on her, he was rather curious, it was not something people usually did, sit down at a table with an unknown person. But he had nothing against it as soon as the girl didn’t bother him. And he was not in the mod to be rude so why bother with such things? Instead he grabbed his phone now checking the watch a small sigh escaping his lips, still early. Nothing new. He just wanted to hide somewhere until his friends came back from their trips. He didn’t want to call home to see if his mother was back, there was no point in doing that since he had nothing to do there, better stay in his room and wait for something interesting to happen.





He was sure the girl in front of him was new, maybe it was just him but he didn’t really care, he moved his gaze on her again the corners of his mouth curling into a smile, he was at least trying „ So you’re new?”Alexander asked with curiosity now watching her carefull, waiting for a reaction. She didn’t look like too familiar with the things around so why not ask? It was the perfect opportunity to meet some new people and get out of the dorms, the truth be told he was sick of that place. Most of the time Alex felt like an animal in a cage, unable to do anything but watch the others have fun while he did nothing. Grabbing the bottle of coke Alex , also, took a short sip of the sweet liquid before placing it back on the table.

The boy glanced up at Karys the second she sat down, as expected when some random person comes up to you out of nowhere. He introduced himself as Alex and Karys took a second to just study his face. He had gorgeous blue eyes and you're typical blonde hair to accompany them. He's probably one of those typical pretty boys, Karys thought. Not that it really mattered, I mean she was just saying hi. 

There was a bit of a pause as Alex checked his phone. Karys took another drink and glanced around the cafeteria. It really was dead on campus around this time of the year. Back home everyone was pretty much stuck in her small town so there was always something or some party going on. Here, most everyone went home, either that or they were hiding out in their dorms just as bored as the rest of us. Karys heard Alex's voice again and turned her gaze back on him. "Yeah, haha is it that obvious?" she laughed and tucked a few stray strands of hair back behind her ear. It was up in a bun, but pieces always managed to slip their way out of the elastic. "I just moved here... ahh I wanna say around a month ago. I used to live in a super small town in Virginia with absolutely no mention of special powers so it's pretty different here. I've kinda been wandering around like a lost puppy these last couple of weeks. So for future reference if you ever see me standing in one place and looking around everywhere, I'm probably confused as hell." Which was completely true, she wasn't the best with directions and Ashford was a pretty big school which meant she got lost a lot, especially the first couple of days she was here. Now things were a little easier, seeing as she knew the campus a bit better, but she hadn't really strayed off campus to Calloway yet. That would be fun the first time she ever did.

He had to admit the girl in front of him was beautiful. And she was not like the others , she was more..friendly. And odd. Not that he complained, he was bored and she was interesting so why not befriend her? The truth be told he had nothing else to do he raised his eyebrows when she started talking about the city where she used to live, Alexander nodded a chuckle escaping his lips his light deep blue gaze now fixed on her " Not really but I know most of the people around. " He explained with a rather calm voice

He started laughing when he told him about her standing in a place confused, indeed the campus was huge but he got used to it, five years there and nothing was impossible. " That's nice. I was born in Las Vegas and grew up in New York. " Alexander said with a boredom voice, he was used to noise and people running around since he grew up in New York but prefered the campus. It was quite and he liked it " I can show you the surrondings if you want to. I am here since I was thirteen. " A short laugh escaped his lips as he finished the fries and stopped eating, the food from there was not horrible.. But was not the best food in town. " I'm eighteen now so yea.. Five years of pure torture. " He joked rolling his eyes the corners of his mouth curling a smile across his lips as he spoke not taking his gaze off her.

He was rather curious of her power so after quite a time he finally decided it was time to ask " Curiosity killed the cat. So..what's your power?" He asked raising his eyebrows be fore he scratched the back of his neck and leaned back in his seat while he watched her reaction . He was sure she was going to ask him the same question but he just waited patient.

It was a little unnerving having Alex's gaze on her almost constantly, yet unnerving in a flattering sort of way. It kind of made Karys feel slightly self conscious of the way she looked, having just thrown on whatever she found lying on the floor this morning before heading off to get food. Alex mentioned the fact that he knew she was new due to his knowing who everyone else on campus was and Karys nodded back, "Makes sense."

She moved a bit closer, curling her hands around her mountain dew bottle and placing her elbows on the table in front of her at the mention of New York. Being a small town kinda girl, she would have killed to have grown up in New York. "I have to say, I'm kinda a little bit jealous of you right now. New York sounds amazing. And as far as showing me around, that would actually be really great. Maybe then I can stop annoying people with my lost puppy look. " She mockingly made a puppy face, wide eyes and a pouty lip, before laughing it off. She knew she was acting a bit childish but it was nice to actually talk to someone.

They talked back and forth for a bit before the questions Karys truly hated most of all eventually popped up in the conversation. Not that she hated her power or other people's power, just that she was always a bit awkward when the conversation came up because she was so insecure about her lack of control. "Aghh the dreaded question. I guess I should be used to it by now, living in a superpowered boarding school and everything, but it still makes me cringe." She sighed a bit and picked at the top of her mountain dew lid. "I normally hate talking about it because it's all still super new to me but..." She trailed off a bit and just watched his face. She didn't really know him all that well but she strangely  felt comfortable talking to him about it. He seemed very calm and collected and she couldn't see him making that big of a deal about anything. So she continued, " I have what they call pheromone manipulation. I guess I can release these chemicals that can affect the way people think and act and stuff. I can't really control it at the moment so I'm here for training to help with that." So far she hadn't gained any new insight on her powers since arriving at Ashford but then again it was summer time and she'd only been here for a month or so. Karys was just a tad bit impatient in that she wanted to be able to control it immediately. Wishful thinking. "What about you? What's yours?"
