Long story short? She's a foster kid. Dad left when she was a newborn, mom died before she was six months old. Older sister got adopted but she and her twin stayed in the homes. Rough neighborhood, never stayed one place for more than a few months until the last one. Almost got adopted and then her powers manifested and the cover up almost landed her in jail. Apparently Fin still doesn't remember she's not a bad person. That's just the snapshot. There's a whole lot of bad in between.
